IDVD Will Not Burn When Woring With iMovie

When I build a project and prepare it for burn, it then passes it to iDVD. I can then tweak and finalize in DVD and actually start the burn process. After about 20 minutes it sayd it is ready and immediately ejects the disc. The status window says it is "plexing and burning" and counts down to "less than one minute". It never finishes.
So it not only doesnt want to burn to an actual disc, but it never even finishes what it wants to do.
Any ideas?

So far everything should be OK
Try creating the DVD as a disk image (.img) which is an option under FILE in iDVD.
This separates the encoding/multiplexing process from the burning process.
If the image file is created OK you can use Apple's Disk Utility to burn the disk image to writable media. Please come back and let me know if the disk image is completed and I'll explain the next steps.

  • My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen

Like it says in the title...My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen.
Here is the process that I have been doing.
    1. put in a blank disk and with the project already being done, i hit burn (not too hard).
    2. iDvd then starts to encode the title.
    3. After the title has been encoded, the burning stops and a message comes up saying "there was an error during encoding" and when ever I try to burn the same message keeps on coming up.
    I am running version 7.0.4
any help would be extremely helpful

    Try using this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Then you can concentrate on the content if you can't create a disk image of the project.

  • Idvd will not burn after upgrade to maverick

    Hello-
I just upgraded to maverick and now iDVD will not burn a DVD - says it does not have a compatible superdrive. It was working fine until I upgraded. How can I burn a nice DVD now?

Suggestion only. Before launching, did you also check for updates via apple's software updater?

  • IDVD will not burn disc after QT update

IDVd used to work just fine. I did software update and updated Quicktime to version 7. I found that my Quicktime Pro key for QT 6 would not work with QT 7. I called Apple support and they told me how to revert back to QT 6. I followed their steps and successfully have QT Pro 6 back, but not my iDVD projects will not burn. It gets to stage 4 multiplex and burn and spins for hours. When I hit cancel, the disc ejects and is unburnt.
I have followed Apples steps to solve a no burn when you upgrade to iDVD 4.0.1 (remove encoded assets) and this does not fix the problem.

    Hi Dennis
There is ways to delete all of QT and then make a clean install but the
easiest way is to download a back to QT 6.5.2 file from Apple support
    and downloads.
I've done this and keep it till I get an upgrade that takes away the old
files before installing the new ones.

  • Idvd will not burn disks

All of a sudden my work computer and my home computer will not burn disks in IDVD?

Are you getting any messages or warnings when you try?  What systems are you running on each and what version of iDVD?  Is it the same project that you tried to burn on each Mac?  What brand and type of disk are you using?  What burn speed did you try?
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

  • I give up!!!  iDVD will not burn a disk

I will try to give as much information as I can.  I have been struggling with iDVD for a couple weeks.  It will not burn a disk that has a complete menu.  Let me explain.  I've been  testing it to see if it would burn a disk at various stages of development.  It will burn a disk if I just import the video to iDVD with no menu.  It will burn a disk with partial menu and chapters.  But it will not burn a disk if I have an entire menu, with all the chapter markers, drop zones filled and music.
    Help, please.
    Thank you!!

    Hi
Yes - info - but not really the one I would need. There are so much that can go wrong and in different layers (steps of progress)
    A. First - What You feed iDVD - QuickTime-player can open and play so many more VIDEO-CODECs than iDVD ever can use (it is very picky)
    B. There is the notorious - iDVD BUG - that set's of by going back to Video-Editing program (iMovie, FinalCut or whatever) - then returning to the iDVD project. iDVD will notice but non of the alternatives works - I create a brand new iDVD project - only safe way for me - AND THEN NO RETURN AT ALL !
    C. What other material is used - for menus as Music, Photos and small Video sequences
    D. What Theme was used
BTW - Creating a DVD without a Menu - You must be the only one I've ever heard that was able to do this - It is an often discussed topic here.
    E. And if Your project now runs OK in iDVD - SAVE AS A DISKIMAGE (File menu down to bottom topic)
    F. Does this .img file run OK (Simulated DVD)
    G. Burn it with Disk Util tool.
    H. On What BRAND and Type of DVD ? I only use Verbatim DVD-R (SL-Single Layer)
You see - that it is this kind of info that helps me to make, may be good Guessing's.

  • Idvd 08  shuts down after building, idvd will not burn a dvd

Dvd studio pro burns fine, Burning a DVD data disk works fine. Burning a project in Idvd 08 will not burn anything. It simply quits before finishing and spits out an empty dvd disk. I have a imac g5 power pc 2.1 ghz, 500gb hd, 2.5 gb ram and I am running idvd 08 version 7.0. I have tried reinstalling idvd and have even repaired permissions. What do I do? What could it be?

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • *Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb*
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets

  • IDVD will not burn disk

My first problem was the stuck disk from the previous thread.
The instructions worked and the disk came out on start up.
Now the disk will not burn. The door opens on the yellow light , it pulsates for a while then the door closes. Then Nothing.
I burned several DVD recently and it has worked fine. I wanted to make a copy of a home movie I just burned. its the same batch of DVD-R disks.
    JOHN

    David:
I did as you suggested and it solved the problem.
I first downloaded and ran cleansweep, under batch I ran everything.
I am glad to have the program to clean my catch and other routine maintenance stuff.
Then I down loaded the easteregg at Jeff'c Mac Support Web site.
By the way the site has relocated and there is an auto transfer.
But before running the DVD image I tried burning my movie and.............. it worked.
I saved your instruction screen to my documents forlder for future reference.
Again, thanks for your support. Duzzi

  • IDVD will not burn anything!

Any movie I try to Burn won't. iDVD says it’s over 4 gig when the movie file is only 700 MB with no extra buttons, music, vidoes or anything else! I don't know what happened to it! It used to work. What do I do?

    Hi
iDVD do not Care about Gbs or Mbs - ONLY Time (Movie + Menu = Duration)
I have movies on 500Mb that do not fit and Movies on 50Gb that fit's nicely. Duration is the only thing that counts.
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
You do not use iMovie !
OK - Where did Your movie originate and How did You go from this (in what codec) to iDVD ?

  • IDVD will not burn reliably at 8X,

    Dual G5, 512Mb, OS 10.4.2, iDVD 5
If I use 8X media, iDVD creates disk that will not play in other computers
or DVD players. Up until yesterday using disks from same batch and they
    would play fine in anything.
Now, it burns them and they sometimes play all right in the G5
but unreliably in other machines. If i create a disk image and use
Disk utility to burn at 4X, the(8X media) Disk is reliable and plays in all
    computers and players.
If i use a 4X media DVD in iDVD, these play well also,
I've been reading the Apple Knowledge base documnetation and the
most sensible thing is to reduce the burn speed when burning a DVD-R.
How can i set the default burn speed in iDVD, or in the system to 4X?
to clarify, it burns ok at maximum (i am assuming 8x) but playback on
    other machines is unreliable.
if i burn at a lower speed, a reliable disk results.

I've also had bad luck burning anything over 4X on both my PowerMac and PowerBook. I have a Pioneer DVR-103 in my PowerMac and Matshita UJ-815 in my PowerBook. Recently, I bought an external firewire LaCie D2 drive and have had success burning 16X Verbatim DVD-R disks.
Maybe its a drive related problem. Don't know what internal drive you have, but maybe newer drive versions work better. Another issue is that its getting hard for me to find 4X DVD-R disks at my local computer store. Now that I've had success with 16X disks on the LaCie, I don't use my other drives anymore.
    Hope this helps.

  • Idvd will not burn a dvd

I have tried to burn a dvd with no luck, I have a macbook for over two years and never has the idvd been able to burn a dvd. The dvd is ejected just before it is done "less than a minute remaining" the disk is always blank. I have put several projects together in idvd and can only view it on my macbook. Everything is updated, I have spent alot of time tring to get the idvd to burn but no luck. Is there anything else that I can use to burn a dvd?

Compose the DVD, recording it to the desktop. Will have img after the name. After you've composed the DVD ready for burn, instead of using iDVD, choose from the top left, drop down menu, for burn to disc image. (That's the same menu drop down you use for choosing your film in the first place.) When that's done, click on the disc icon which has appeared on the desktop, that one with img after the name, and that will make a box appear showing video and audio records. Click on the red + to get rid of it. That action will have made the disc to be seen and ready for burn in Utilities. Chose Go from the screen top and then Utilities - Disc Utility App. On the left side of the box is that name followed by img. Click on it. Go the top and in Images menu go down to burn and click on it. Your drawer ready for the burn should open. Pace your disk in the tray and choose Close. When Burn comes up, small box to the right, click on that and await results. Good luck.

  • IDVD will not burn dual layer disc correctly.

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz with 8 gigs of ram, with a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S DVD-writable to -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW. It will not spit out a properly formated disc from IDVD. I get the "Supported disc not available" message, even though I have encoded it for dual layer in NTSC.
Has anyone ever experience problems with this? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I've burned through a half a dozen dual layer disc and these are still not supercheap.

Yes I called and my warranty was up so the nerd on the other end tried to sell me the applecare protection program. I guess my next step is to go to an apple store, but as the person that replied last in that discussion said time is an issue. I guess my biggest problem with this whole thing is that it is obviously the update that messed up all of these superdrives, so warranty shouldn't be an issue. Apple even removed the download link: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070716082804520&query=superdrive

  • IDVD will not burn.

I prepared 4 slideshows with music in IPHOTO and sent them to IDVD share to burn a DVD. It started its process to burn and it said it would take 2 hours and 22 minutes to burn. The DVD was ejected 22 minutes before it was completed. When I insert the dvd in the computer to see it, it said that I inserted a blank dvd. This has never happened to me before. HELP!  tks

  • IDVD will not burn revised iMovie; burns old iMovie instead

I am making a graduation video. After burning iMovie called Monica Graduation 2009, I decided it was too long and made a new project entitled Monica Graduation 2009 Revisited. They are two separate projects, the newer one a shorter version. After selecting the correct revisited version and publishing it to the browser media (Share > Media Browser > Large), and opening iDVD and selecting the correct media, it burns the original and not the revised version. I am sure the revisited version was published to the media browser and I am selecting the correct media. In addition, though I can see it encoding the theme at the beginning of the burning process, the theme does not end up on the DVD. It starts playing without starting with the theme. Help !

I did not create a new DVD project for the new version so iDVD burned the original version
