IDVD will not finalize

am putting a dvd project together using idvd 7.1.2 on a mac os x running Mountain Lion 10.8.4
My problem is that once I have to project ready to burn it goes through encoding process fine but when it gets to the final burn stage it starts the "writing lead-in" and the stops and spits out the dvd claiming to be done but does not say that the burn was successful. Also once idvd ejects the dvd it keeps the "done" box up and my only option is to cancel but it freezes and wont cancel or close idvd unless I force it to quit.
Can someone please help?

Try this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Idvd will not burn after upgrade to maverick

    Hello-
I just upgraded to maverick and now iDVD will not burn a DVD - says it does not have a compatible superdrive. It was working fine until I upgraded. How can I burn a nice DVD now?

Suggestion only. Before launching, did you also check for updates via apple's software updater?

  • IDVD will not start

I recently upgraded to iLife 08 and iDVD will not start. Sometimes it will ask me what kind of project I would like and sometimes it even lets me name it and specify the files location, but then it just crashes. I deleted the themes as per Apple's instructions, but this had no effect. I also attempted to re-install the software. Same result. Help!

Problem solved. I found the solution posted by Frizzonk at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1087028&tstart=15
I had to delete the entire installed themes folder but then iDVD worked. Thanks for the support folks.

  • IDVD will not encode audio

    Hi,
Just as the topic says, iDVD will not encode the audio......well whats happening is that it says its in the process of encoding....the bar turns grey, and has the loading color wheel thing and thats basically whats happening. Its been doing this for the past hour. I have lots of ram and memory so i dont think thats a problem.....any solutions??
    Thanks

    This question is frequently asked!
iDVD is probably not 'hanging'. Disregard any messages that iDVD is not responding. It is. Do not force quit.
Encoding audio is the slowest part of rendering, and can take many hours. Great patience, even an intermittent alternative hobby, is called for.
Make sure no other application is running, make sure you have not set the hard disk to go to sleep and that the screen saver will not come on. Leave it overnight, or have a 36 hole game of golf.
Sooner or later iDVD will finish!

  • IDVD will not launch in iMovie HD 5.0.2

The iDVD will not launch as a notice says it won't launch with my version of osx. I want to be able to burn DVDs but can't. Suggestions???

If you want to use the iLife programs, per Niels response on your other post, you need to upgrade to iLife '06. Looking at the requirements, iLife '06 is the only version you can upgrade to, as iLife '08 and later require Intel processors for iMovie and other functions. One place you can buy it from is: http://hardcoremac.stores.yahoo.net/ilife06.html .
There are some freebie DVD burning programs available, however, you lose the integration that the iLife programs bring with them.
Roxio makes several programs that will burn DVD's. I've used Toast Titanium for years and can recommend it. See http://www.roxio.com/

  • My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen

Like it says in the title...My iDvd will not burn a disc...there is an encoding error that comes up after the title screen.
Here is the process that I have been doing.
    1. put in a blank disk and with the project already being done, i hit burn (not too hard).
    2. iDvd then starts to encode the title.
    3. After the title has been encoded, the burning stops and a message comes up saying "there was an error during encoding" and when ever I try to burn the same message keeps on coming up.
    I am running version 7.0.4
any help would be extremely helpful

  • IDVD will not initialize in 64 bit mode

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and booted up in 64 bit mode. I just discovered that IDVD will not open in 64 bit mode. Rebooted in 32 bit mode IDVD works fine. Has anyone else has this problem or a similar problem with any APPLE apps in 64 bit mode. Is there a fix out there for this type of problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The current iDVD application is not 64-bit. In fact none of the iLife or iWorks applications have been converted to 64-bit. It's not likely they will be since there's a large user base that can only use the universal binaries. There isn't that much use for 64-bit booting at this time unless you are a developer creating 64-bit only applications.
This is not a problem for which a fix is even possible.

  • Idvd will not quit

This has been an issue for quit some time now. I am in desperate need for an update on my MacBook Pro, and everytime I allow is to restart my computer, it says it can not be done. This is because iDVD will not quit! i have tried everything! It simply will not quit. Please help!

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and shut it down from there. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit loginwindow.

I read about using the Disc Utility but that will not open either. When I try to download say Itunes or Iphoto and lick on the download safari opens on google?
Please does anyone know what is wrong?
    Its a PowerPc G5.
    Cheers Mary

Our powerbooks can not run iMovie'08. Not enough horsepower.
That is why we are offered a free download of iMovie '06.

  • IDVD will not launch to burn DVD

In my iMovie HD 5.0.2, the iDVD will not launch to burn a DVD. I have tried everything. When clicking the iDVD, it says to go to Finder to launch. In Finder, I go to applications and click iDVD and get:You cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OSX.
    What are my options???

Just a little confused. I already have iphoto, imovie, garage band etc that would be in a ilife download so what are the benefits? Currently, when I click for software upgrades, there are none. Would downloading ilife really change anything?

  • HT1338 iDVD will not update

My iDVD will not update I have been trying to for last three months

Have you tried with this download link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1414
I'm surprised you wouldn't have 7.1.2 already since it came out last year. There were some problems with iDVD during early Lion iterations last year and I sent in many bug reports - Apple responded and fixed them all and I haven't had a problem using it since. It does occasionally throw a little fit such as not wanting to recognize some audio I want to use in the menu instead of the default, but will work in the end.
If that update does not work - how did you install iDVD in the first place? If you have iLife retail disks, I'd suggest deleting what you have and reinstalling, then updating to the latest version. That's what I've been doing - I actually start with iLife 08 (needed for the install of the old iMovie HD 6 which I prefer to work with), install iMovie HD, then go to iLife 09, and finally to iLife 11 (with updates in between).

  • IDVD will not burn dual layer disc correctly.

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz with 8 gigs of ram, with a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S DVD-writable to -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW. It will not spit out a properly formated disc from IDVD. I get the "Supported disc not available" message, even though I have encoded it for dual layer in NTSC.
Has anyone ever experience problems with this? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I've burned through a half a dozen dual layer disc and these are still not supercheap.

Yes I called and my warranty was up so the nerd on the other end tried to sell me the applecare protection program. I guess my next step is to go to an apple store, but as the person that replied last in that discussion said time is an issue. I guess my biggest problem with this whole thing is that it is obviously the update that messed up all of these superdrives, so warranty shouldn't be an issue. Apple even removed the download link: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070716082804520&query=superdrive

  • IDVD will not burn disc after QT update

IDVd used to work just fine. I did software update and updated Quicktime to version 7. I found that my Quicktime Pro key for QT 6 would not work with QT 7. I called Apple support and they told me how to revert back to QT 6. I followed their steps and successfully have QT Pro 6 back, but not my iDVD projects will not burn. It gets to stage 4 multiplex and burn and spins for hours. When I hit cancel, the disc ejects and is unburnt.
I have followed Apples steps to solve a no burn when you upgrade to iDVD 4.0.1 (remove encoded assets) and this does not fix the problem.

    Hi Dennis
There is ways to delete all of QT and then make a clean install but the
easiest way is to download a back to QT 6.5.2 file from Apple support
    and downloads.
I've done this and keep it till I get an upgrade that takes away the old
files before installing the new ones.

  • IDVD will not launch

iDVD (7.0.4) will not launch properly. I get the top bar, but no window, and within seconds the beachball starts spinning and I have to force quit it.
Took my MBP (mid 2010) to the local dealer and one of the guys there tried to help. Tried disk utility and verified and repaired both permissions and disk. He also did this through something he called the recovery partition, and tried to reset something he called pram/nvram. Have tried several times to reinstall iDVD before and after this from the App. Install dvd, after first trashing the app and two files in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
I had not used iDVD before on this particular MBP.
    Any ideas?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
The reason iDVD launched in your other account is that thre was not iDVD preference file there because you had not launched iDVD there before.
Once the library is visible you can go to your Users/Home/Library/Preferences folder and find the com.apple.iDVD.plist preference file and delete it.  Then launch iDVD so a new pref file will be created and iDVD should open.
