  • How to burn iDVD with no DVD burner..

Hi - I have a new MacBook but foolishly didn't buy the one with the DVD burning capability. I have created a nice slideshow with pics and music, nice transitions, etc. in iDVD which I want to be able to play in a DVD player on the TV, but can not burn it as I have no superdrive. Can you think of a way around this, or other software I can use to create the same slideshow and burn to a CD and play on the TV? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Your DVD player attached to the TV will probably be looking for a DVD, unless it will also play video CD's. One option is to buy yourself an external DVD recorder. You can scan the discussions to find ones that work with macs (not all specify that they will work with macs). For example, OWC has 3 external recorders from $80 to $120 at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ . If you follow the path I've seen others follow, once you find out how easy it is to create various materials for DVD's, you'd probably get your monies worth from an external DVD burner.
Another option would be to hook your computer directly to your TV, if the TV will allow it. Many newer LCD/plasma TV's allow for computer hookup.

  • Can Apple upgrade my MacBook with a DVD burner?

Just wondering if my MacBook can be upgraded with a DVD burner without additional problems relating to the upgrade ocurring. I wasn't ready to buy another Mac that had it already preinstalled.
    Thanks,
    Reese

    Hi Reese85,
Theoretically, you can upgrade it without any problem.
But the question : will they do that?
I read a post or two in this forum a while ago that user being denied by apple store when they asked to upgrade their optical drive.
Usually not to long after a mac released, third party reseller will have the optical as an upgrade option, but I never see one for macbook until now.
    Good Luck.
ps: why not consider external DVD burner for now until the internal become available?

And yes, you can run windows on that machine without any problems, but it will be much better to upgrade memory to 1 or 2 gigs for much better performance.

  • IDVD project with Win DVD burner???

I was wondering If I can do a project with iDVD then send it to a Win comp to have it burn onto DVD. I have a Mac mini without the DVD burner.

  • IDVD/Macbook/external DVD Burner

    Hi All,
There are several threads already relating to this subject. I have read them, but am having a little trouble fathoming a straight answer to my query.
    I have a Macbook - 2GHz Intel Core Duo - 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM with Leopard operating system and iLife 08.
I don't have a DVD burner as part of the laptop and want to use an exteranal burner in conjunction with iDVD. Is this possible?
Some threads are of the opinion that you can't use an external drive with iDVD, some say there are ways round it. Please could someone say which is true?
If it is possible to do so, i'm guessing from other threads on here that Lacie is the way forward. I'm not in a position to build an external DVD writer - I can't even build LEGO!
    All help is appreciated
    Kind Regards

I know in that past that iDVD would only work with an Apple supplied "superdrive", but I am pretty sure that's not the case anymore. Even if it is, you can create a disk image with iDVD and then use the Disk Utility to burn it to another drive> Which, by the way, is a better way of creating DVDs.
As far as burners go, I believe there are 3 main suppliers: Pioneer, Sony, & Samsung. LaCie doesn't actually make the drive, they just put it in their case- which would be the same thing most any other vendor would do. As example:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRBFWU2D115/
Pioneer drive, in their case. I don't mind LaCie optical drives (I don't like their hard drives) but you can generally find an external burner for less and as long as you know the drive component, you should be OK.

  • Can someone help me with a DVD burner issue on an HP Pavillion dv6700 series laptop?

Hello all. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop with a pioneer dvd rw k17b internal DVD burner drive. I recently have been experiencing issues with burning DVDs. It is saying that my burn speed is too low or the DVD is not compatible with the write speed of the burner and will not burn anything. I didn't have this problem until recently and it burned other DVDs fine until then. I have tried numerous brands of DVDs and none of them seem to work. I have also noticed that only the write speed of 2.4x shows in the drop down menu now...it had other options before. I have looked for firmware updates for the DVD burner and there isn't any. I have also checked device manager to make sure DMA was enabled and even tried uninstalling the driver and allowing windows to reinstall it upon reboot. I am running windows 7 operating system and have no clue what has happened to keep me from burning at a higher speed. I have also tried different burning software programs to see if I can get around it...no luck that way either. What has happened and how can I fix this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 USE WITH EXTERNAL DVD BURNER??

    Hello
Looking at buying DVD Studio Pro 4 for my mini but apple have just stated it will not install unless my machine has a superdrive. We've got an external firewire DVD burner and i've read mention of other versions of DVD Studio burning through externals so how come we carnt use DVD Studio Pro 4 with an external DVD burner?
Has anyone tried an external DVD burner with DVD Studio Pro 4 ?
    Cheers

This issue isn't external drives, it's the mini, and installing the program.
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/specs.html
The specs do not seem to require an internal superdrive.

  • Disk Utility won't burn with external dvd burner!!! HELP?!?!?!

    Hello anyone/everyone!
I need some help, I'm trying to burn a file using the disk utility. Only thing is that the disk utility wants to used the drive installed on my iBook (combo drive) and not my external DVD drive! I couldn't find a way to be able to chnage the default burner, and I was hoping that someone/anyone could help me out? The file is too large for a regular 800mb disk so I have to use the external dvd burner. Help me please oh wise-ones?!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Find out if the external burner is Patchburn compatible. If it is, then apply it from http://www.patchburn.de/
If not, I'd sell the external burner and get one that is compatible like those from http://www.macsales.com/
You may find other tricks on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ as well.

  • IDVD and External DVD burner

I'm currently working on a DVD for a wedding scheduled for Saturday. The DVD works great on the Mac and PC, however, when attempt to play it in a DVD player playing to a TV the music is choppy during the transitions (dropplet). By the way, my superdrive has a 2x burner.
Thinking that it might be the slow DVD, I purchased a LaCie external DVD but now can not get iDVD to recognize the LaCie burner.
    Any suggestions on either issue???

Thanks for the help. I was able to get iDVD to recognize the new DVD hardware by simply loading a new DVD into the drive and responding to the question screen concerning what to do with the blank DVD. I was also able to burn the project and make it work with a computer and two DVD players that I have access to. Unfortunately, the brides parent's DVD player basically stops playing the music during the waterdrop transitions I was able to drop the transition and burn a new DVD and all worked fine.
Sorry, I was just panicking before the big day.
    Thanks again.

  • Problems with the DVD burning software

I had ulead dvd installed on my pc but then had a crash so had to reinstall, when i tried this all i keep getting is error code 6002. I've followed the instructions that came with the error code but this made no difference. Today i tried to install Pinnacle Studio Plus and i keep getting the same error message. Ive stopped other programs, emptied the temp folder and still no joy. Help please.

    Hi
Please check the Ulead or Pinnacle support site. Maybe you can find a proper answer. If there is no solution try to use System restore tool. It will help you to set the system to previous configuration. You can also remove both of applications manually and check if the Nero works again.
It is possible that after removing Ulead or Pinnacle in the registry stays a lot of entries that can be removed manually but if you are not a user with a lot of experience let it go.
I have also P20 almost two years and use Nero burning software without problems.
I am not if this site is a right one for you but you can check it http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q110646 . It is very interesting.
    Good luck!

  • IDVD says my DVD burner is not compatible.

    Hi,
My PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D magically became not compatible when I installed Tiger and iDVD 6. When I open iDVD I get a message saying my drive (that has always worked in other applications and in the Leopard OS) is not compatible. Is there a solution other than buying a new drive? How do I tell if a new drive would be compatible with iDVD 6? The one I own should be.
    Thanks.

I have not seen your problem mentioned before.
Did you delete preferences and do a permissions repair after installing? If not, try doing that.
Sometimes permissions and preferences can get corrupted. Whenever iDVD starts acting funny, or you install new software or do an upgrade, a common maintenance procedure is to do the following: Delete preferences by closing iDVD and trashing the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User (the House icon)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility App on your Mac. Open the Disk Utilities window and select the Mac hard drive icon at the top of the side pane at the left. Then click on the Repair Permissions button. When you have repaired permissions and deleted preferences, restart your computer and launch iDVD. iDVD will replace the .plist file that you deleted. Be sure also that you have sufficient free disk space on your hard drive for iDVD to function correctly. 25GB often is recommended by users of this forum. Now see if iDVD still has the problem.

  • A noob with a dvd burning prob.

    hello to all reading,
i've been going through the forums and i can't seem to find the help i need, so i'm getting brave and asking, and please, if this is the wrong place, i apologize. however, any help is SOOO appreciated.
my question is, i bought an iomega external usb dvd writer 16x, mac compantiable, but having problem after problem and going through blank dvds like nothing. i was wondering, could i say just bypass the software they gave and just use the hardware and use something like mac toast instead of the software they gave. the hardware itself is a dual layer burner.
the burner is showing up in all the right places, check system profiler , and under disc burning , its right there with my internal cd/dvd player, the only thing is under burn support it says Yes(Unsupported), so i'm guessing that might not be good? i guess what i'm worried about is this thing might just be
read only, i swear i saw that somewhere on my laptop. and i did read that someone with a similar problem solved it buy burning from the finder window, tried that last night, but it said it couldn't compelte the function and was closing session 1, and it just hung there for like 20 minutes till i ended it.
so if anything else, i'll just go out and get something else if the hardware is the prob, its just i dont want to give up just yet. once again i appreciate any help, and thanks to all who contriubte!

    sofaking78,
Malcolm, as usual, has provided good advice. Here's a link to some info on FW enclosures for optical drives. I wouldn't let the "noob" thing scare you off from attempting this yourself. These things are just "nuts and bolts", so to speak, and are quite easy to work with. The tools you'd be working with consist of a single philips screwdriver. Here's another link to some instructions with pictures showing how it's done. You could later buy a bare ATA drive to use in the IOMEGA case for a spare drive, although it won't be bootable being USB...
Whatever course you take, rest assured that there are plenty of members here who would be more than happy to help you with whatever you need to do. Somebody here has successfully done just about anything Mac-related before. Please remember that even the most experienced member did everything for the first time, at one time or another, relying on someone else to help out.

  • Fit and usage problems with second DVD burner on Mirror Drive Door

I got a Mirror Drive Door Dual 1.25 GHz (Firewire 400 only) to replace my dead Digital Audio model. It has been working fine for the past week, so today I was trying to transplant all my compatible upgrades over from the Digital Audio, but I am having problems with using 2 DVD burners.
I left the original Apple Super Drive in the top optical bay and put my LaCie Lightscribe burner in the bottom bay.
My first problem is that the opening in the lower bezel is too small from side-to-side for the LaCie tray to come out. It hits the bezel and goes back in. It looks like it is off by about 1-1.5mm on each side. I don't know if the drives will fit if I reverse their positions or not.
Secondly, I don't think the jumpers are set correctly, and I am not 100% sure how to set them. I am guessing that they both need to be "Cable Select" like the hard disks in this model? I think I would prefer that the Apple drive stays the main drive. Right now, when I press the eject button on the keyboard, all I get is an endless cycle of the lower drive trying to eject its tray. I'm not finding the procedure for ejecting the the top Apple drive. Is there a key combination to select the upper drive? So far there is only Tiger 10.4.11 on this computer, though I will be installing Leopard shortly.

I am guessing that they both need to be "Cable Select" like the hard disks in this model?
Depends on the IDE cable, Master & Slave may be a better option.
    Might try this...
On your main hard drive, dig down into System > Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.
    http://www.creativetechs.com/tips/quicktips_51.html
If two drives are properly recognized it'll allow you to choose which one.
