IDVD won't burn iMovie Project

I completed a lengthy iMovie project (iMovie 4.0.1), complete with music, titles, transitions etc., but can't get iDVD to burn the movie. I have a Super Drive and have burned short projects previously, so I don't know why it's not working this time. I opened the iDVD application, chose a theme ("Reveal")and dragged some photos into the theme page on the right side. So far, so good. I then tried to drag the iMovie project icon from the harddrive into the area on the theme page (middle) where it says "drag movies or photos here." When I did that, I got an error message which said: "Unsupported Action Your last action not supported by iDVD." Anyone have a clue as to what might be wrong? The movie is not too lengthy, I don't believe; it's about 52 minutes total. Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this.

I meant discussion points. (And NO, I don't want any
myself, I got plenty already, but the other guys may
want some...)

  • IDVD won't recognize imovie project

    Hello people.
I have an 09 Mac desktop computer. I have now made seven iMovie projects ranging from ten minutes to almost two hours. Each time I shared the project with iDVD to burn the finished product to disc. Each time I made sure I could play back the movie on our DVD player.
I was able to play back each of these movies on my computer as the files ( I am assuming they were files ) were automatically stored in a movies folder right after they were shared with iDVD from iMovie. Since they take up space on the hard drive, I decided to store the files on an external hard drive. I believe each one copied to the hard drive. Once each one was on the hard drive, I made sure I could play it back. Then I trashed each file on the computer, again making sure right after that I could still play each file on the external drive. They would open in iDVD and I could play them. All was good.
Recently I made another iMovie project of my children's high school play. As I did before, I shared it with iDVD and it appeared to be working as usual. It was to take approx. 30 minutes to create the movie from the project. HERE IS MY FIRST PROBLEM! Usually after the movie is created, it then opens in iDVD and from here I can burn to disc. iDVD did not open! I tried a couple of times and nothing. I then tried a short 30 second clip from iMovie with no titles or transitions or anything. This worked. iDVD opened after creating the short movie. My project is an hour long. Consequently with this project I shared it with the media browser and made it into an avi file. I then used a program ( Toast ) that came with my Roxio Converter ( VHS to DVD ) software to burn the movie to disc.
HERE IS MY NEXT PROBLEM!  I went to view the movies on my hard drive and iDVD won't recognize them. It says it can't find the missing audio and video files. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

    Hello darrenfromnanaimo
Cross your fingers for a satisfactory answer to the "NEXT PROBLEM."  When you copied the iDVD files to your external drive and deleted them on your computer -- hopefully you just deleted the iDVD files and not the iMovie files.  If that's the case, you can reconnect the external iDVD files to the original iMovie files and you're back in business (open the external iDVD project and use it's browser to find the original iMovie files).  If the iMovie files were deleted, that's a more difficult problem -- you'll need to recreate the iMovie files (re-import from the camcorder and re-edit), or you'll have to "rip" your DVDs back into an electronic file (which gives you only the finished product of your original editing, with slightly degraded video resolution).

  • DVD burner won't burn iMovie project

Hi, I've been trying to get an iMovie project onto a DVD for hours by
    1. using the "share" in iMovie to iDVD. No luck.  It says "There was an error in burning" No error number.
    2. I tried it on my eMAc as well and it says the same thing.
    3. I also ran it back onto my camera and tried OneStepDVD and it still didn't work.Same answer.
    4. I've sent it by email to the client, but of course the compression made it fuzzy and I still need to hand him something more professional by Monday.
Any idea why this is happening? Also, is it possible to put the iMovie file onto a stick and if so, how would I do it?
I have never had this problem before and I've been producing video projects on a Mac of some kind
    for over 10 years.
Thank you for any input at all. Frustrated, Kate

    Hi Kate
    1. First - Secure that there are enough space on Your Main (Start-Up) Hard Disk to do this !
    • I never go less than 25GB free space - see bottom of the window frame when You open Your Hard Disk (double click it's icon - top to the right - most often named Macintosh HD)
    2. In iMovie (I guess that You use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11)
    - Select the movie Project - (Not Events - won't work)
    - Share to Media Browser (NOT iDVD - as if working - result will be poor) and as MEDIUM or LARGE (Not HD or other resolution as this too degrade the finalDVD)
    3. Close iMovie
    4. Open iDVD
    5. Start a NEW iDVD Project (top choice)
    6. Select a nice theme - I use old one - "Brushed Metal" - No extra audio or animation (but that's me)
    7. Import movie from - MEDIA Button (down to the right) / Movies
    8. Save as a DiskImage - File menu and far down
    9. Test this image file by playing it with DVD-tool
    If OK
then burn this .img file by using Apple Disk Util-tool - or if You don't mind iDVD to recalculate - use iDVD - Click on the Burn button.
    Good Luck

  • IDVD won't burn my project!!

I have FCP and I exported using the Quicktime movie option. I took it into iMovie, organized it, and saved it. I went to iDVD, pulled the movies, go to burn the disc and the following happens: I insert the disk when prompted, it then says "waiting for device to be ready," then spits out the blank DVD! What's going on?! Am I exporting the wrong format? This has worked before and I'm somewhat confused. PLEASE HELP!!

To do test with DVD-RW and avoid burning coasters DVD-R, you have to trick iDVD4.
The trick with iDVD4 is to originally insert a Blank DVD-R, and then it will accept it. While it's begining encoding your project, press the eject CD button on your keyboard. You might have to hold it a few seconds. it will eject the DVD-R and replace it with the DVD-RW and push the tray back or press eject button again to retract the tray.
Et voila you have tricked iDVD4 that it has a DVD-R on its hand, when in reality it will burn on a DVD-RW

  • Failed to burn iMovie project, iDVD  "not responding"

A preemptive thanks for your time.
I am trying to burn iMovie projects through iDVD. I have done this successfully in the past. What happens now is after going through many of the steps up through Encoding Video, the process gets stuck when the status window says "Encoding Audio". No error message occurs or anything like that, the burn wheel stops spinning, and the "multicolored wheel of computer confusion" pops up. Needless to say this means that I am even more confused than the computer and examining the iDVD icon in the dock reveals that it is "not responding."
This same problem happens with two similar projects (one of which was burned successfully in the past.) I am using Sony DVD-R disks. The projects are the typical size for about 50 minutes of edited iMovie project (15GB).
    HELP!

    As Rich says:
    This question is frequently asked!
iDVD is probably not 'hanging'. Disregard any messages that iDVD is not responding. It is. Do not force quit.
Encoding audio is the slowest part of rendering, and can take many hours. Great patience, even an intermittent alternative hobby, is called for.
Make sure no other application is running, make sure you have not set the hard disk to go to sleep and that the screen saver will not come on. Leave it overnight, or have a 36 hole game of golf.
Sooner or later iDVD will finish!
(The current record mentioned here for encoding a DVD with lots of added audio etc is 47 hours!)

  • Why won't my iMovie project export on my iPhone 6

Why won't my iMovie project export on my iPhone 6. I made the project but it won't export and the load bar doesn't move.

Apple no longer includes iDVD with new Macs. For some alternatives, see this post.

  • IDVD won't load large project file..Help!

iDVD won't load large project file once I close the program for the first time since finishing the project.  Basically, I made a compilation DVD of numerous individual files spread across quite a few folders/sub-menus totaling about 236 minutes on a Dual Layer DVD+R.  I closed the project prior to burning but now, iDVD gets the rainbow wheel everytime you try to load that particular project.  What's the deal?
    Notes:
-iDVD does still load if I want to load another (smaller/simple project) or start a new one.
-I've tried to start over from scratch a make the exact same project.  When I exited out and went to load it, it did the same thing.
-I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and iDVD 7.1.2.
    Any suggestions?

Premiere Elements is not part of the Cloud... and it has a different forum
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements?view=discussions
When you go to the correct forum, you need to provide a LOT more information
From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
    And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Have you viewed the tutorial links at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 page?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?

  • IDVD won't burn since latest update

Ever since the latest update iDVD won't burn a disc. It says that there is no disc in the drive. I have tried TDK DVD-R and Verbatim DVD-R discs. This is ******* me off something fierce. Please help.

Have you tried to burn a data DVD from the finder?
What does System Profiler (about this mac > more info) say under diskburning?
Also a cold restart (all power off for 5 minutes) and zapping the PRAM and PMU can reset optical drives.

  • IDVD won't burn project in current form!

I made a project - saved it- burned a test dvd. Then I went back in = made a lot of changes - saved. Closed IDVD. Reopened the saved project (it has a completely different name so its easy to find) - then I go to burn an image.
What happens is bizarre! It burns a DVD without ANY of my changes. I go back to IDVD - I preview the movie - there are all my changes. I burn a DVD - no changes present?????
    What can I do?

You need to delete the encoded assets so the project will reencode everything.

  • IDVD not loading my iMovie projects

    Hello,
I really, really, hope someone can help.
I created a film in iMovie and would like to create a DVD with chapters/menus etc using iDVD.
Once I had finished my film and set the chapters etc I went to Share -> Media Browser and selected HD 720 and clicked publish. This seemed to work fine and took some time as my film is 57mins and 33 seconds.
However, when I open iDVD, create a project and then go into the Media section by clicking on the Media button and then clicking on Movies..it just says "Loading iMovie Projects...."
Now I'm not sure how long I should have to wait...but nothing happens....it just says that message and nothing...just the swirling icon to say it's loading....
    - Now I don't even have many projects in iMovie...about 4 and they aren't as big as this one which I have been working on for some time.
After doing some research I have been able to double check imovie shared the movie (from what I did in Media Browser) as their is a .mov file in the 'Show Package Contents' of the original iMovie project file called: "720p.MOV".
Not sure how it all works but I want iDVD to allow me to access the film I shared in Media Browser and then create a DVD that has all the chapters I set in iMovie and so allows me to create a good DVD with all the sub-menu's etc.
I hope all that makes sense? I just really am struggling to understand why the iMovie projects won't load in iDVD?!? All this work for nothing?? I hope not!
I was advised to create the DVD this way - I know there is another way to do it in iMovie - Share -> iDVD.....I think I did try that once and it crashed but do I need to do it this way? will that work?
Hope someone can help and advise me of a way to do this. I don't want to burn this as a DVD without chapters and slick menu's. I was really counting on iMovie and iDVD to work. The screenshot of what is happening follows:
I am using iDVD 7.1.2, iMovie 11 and a 2008 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Dual Core Intel) with 4gb ram and the rather crappy geforce 8600M GT with 128mb.
    Thanks

To test if - trash pref file is right You can Safely do
    • Start a new User-Account (Apple / System pref/set-up / Accounts
    • Log out and into this
    • Try iDVD - Does it now beheave - then trashing iDVD.pref file can be of big help (in original Account)
    Delete iDVD pref file
    • Delete iDVD pref. file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

  • How do I burn iMovie project to DVD , Maverick.

Please someone tell me how to burn a iMovie project on IDVD? i am on Maverick.
    Thanks,

    If you don't have iDVD:
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Burning iMovie project to multiple DVDs?

I have a giant iMovie family movies project that will exceed the limits of a single DVD. Is there a way that iDVD will automatically burn it to multiple DVDs (that can be played as movies in DVD players)? Or do I have to edit down my iMovie project, which I don't really want to do? Sorry if this is a lame question, I'm a first-timer in this area and can't find the answer anywhere.
    thx
    Neil

This is by no means a lame question. However, iDvd cannot do this for you. But may I ask exactly how long the total run time / QT playback is in hours and mins.? And how much available HD space do you currently have on the boot volume (your main HD)?
You can go ahead in iM6 (free download from apple) and build your project and then export selected clip/s only directly from the iMovie 6 timeline in full quality. And then use only the exported QT files within iDvd'08 for a series of Dvd's. Hope that makes sense.
It may take several Dvd's but yes it can be done in iMovie (just not in iDvd alone).

  • How to burn imovie project on dvd

Have just switched from PC to Mac - what's the Windows DVD Maker equivalent in Mac environment please ? I have an iMovie project that I'd like to burn onto a disc. Cheers, H.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

IDVD is very popular in the Apple community. The latest Macintoshes and Mac OSs are tested for compatibility with iDVD.

  • IDVD won't burn discs

When burning a project to disc it goes through all encoding alright until it comes to the last step: as soon as it hits ‘multiplexng/burning’ IDVD quits. I am left with nothing but an empty, untouched DVD in my (internal) burner.
    Can anyone enlighten me please?

what external devices are currently connected to your mac?
tell me what you've tried so far?
what kind of media did you use?
have you tried a simple restart of your mac with no external 3rd party devices connected?
and have you tried using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R?
How much available HD space is remaining on the startup volume / HD?

  • OSX Lion: iDVD won't burn completely.

I use iDVD on Lion, and it's my first time using this software.  I love it so far, except it won't burn.  I've tried twice now to burn a DVD and it gets stuck on the same part each time.  It is after hitting burn, it processes the content for an hour or so and the progress bar is completely full and it ejects the disk.  It doesn't complete the burn though, it gets stuck on "Multiplexing and Burning...", the progress bar remains full, and the time remaining says "about one minute".  It doesn't go anywhere from here, even if I push the disc back in.
    What should I do?

I can't answer specifially to what your problem is, but I had the same problem. I tried many different kinds of DVD Rs from Radio Shack and nothing worked. Then I bought Apple's DVD -Rs and I it finally worked. I think it has something to do with the DVD R needing to work at various burn speeds. 1x 4x 8x etc. This should not be the case, Apple should explain why the burning is so finicky, but it di finally work for me.
