IDVD won't complete onestep

I have a quicktime .mov file, about 11 mins, that plays just fine. I would like to create a DVD.
I selected Onestep from movie, iDVD goes through the first step, then goes to multitplexing and burning. I get a message "Writing lead-in" but then it spits out the disk, leaving the "Multiplexing and Burning" message, done, and "Time remaining: about one minute."
I hit cancel, then continue, and I get another window with Prepare...Burn but nothing happens.
When I click cancel it says it's still working, and of course the DVD is unplayable. (I have 25gigs free by the way.)
I don't need a theme or fancy menus, just a DVD that will play.
Any hope?
Thanks for any help.

Hi
Some questions are easy to write but hard to answer eg what was before Big Bang or outside Universe.
This one is a close to that one.
First of all - I wonder what codec Your movie is in - .mov is not a specific type but just a container as sort of folder and it can contain movie formats that iDVD can use or not.
Open it in QuickTime and use the inspector to find out the codec - Then tell us.
Secondly - Multiplex error - can have so many origins
• one is - if buttons or pictures in iDVD menu goes outside or just touch the TV-Safe are = Multiplex error
If it is not this - Please return for my several pages long suggestion list.

  • IDVD won't capture "OneStep" footage

I was using iDVD to transfer my footage onto DVD's. I had done 3 one hour tapes and it worked fine. Today when I went to transfer it stopped capturing video at 12 minutes into the tape and made me a DVD with only 12 minutes of footage on it. I tried to run it again and it stoped capturing at 10 minutes. I stopped it and started again and it captured only two minutes. It now will not capture at all an it says "no video has been captured. Aborting OneStep DVD creation". I am shooting with a Canon XL2 that is only 3 months old. My imac will be 2 years old in September. This is the first time I even used the iDVD program. I usually use Final Cut Pro 5 for logging. I could use some help figuring out what is not working with this program. thank you. [email protected]

Just to add to the Len's good advice.... and after confirming you have at least 20GB's of available HD space, look for the following item/s.
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Just copy & paste the above item in bold directly to the Finder (happy face on the dock), hit return, and then drag this item/s to the trash. Empty the trash.
Now connect you camcorder to your iMac via firewire cable.
Power up the camcorder and cue the tape to the approximate start point (manually). Keep the camcorder powered up.
Now launch iDVD6. And try the One step process again thru iDVD. It should work.
Hope this helps but if not, just post back.

  • IDVD Won't Record Video In OneStep DVD

I connected my Sony DV camera to my MacBook Pro using a FireWire cable, I switched the camera to VTR mode, I opened iDVD and clicked on OneStep DVD, I inserted a recordable DVD, it rewinds the tape for me and then says that it's capturing the video, the tape plays for about 3 or 4 seconds and then this message pops up:
"Nothing Captured: No video has been captured. Aborting OneStep DVD creation."

    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)

Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.

    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?

    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

  • IDVD won't encode - AGAIN!

I thought I had my previous problem figured out, but iDVD won't encode my video again. It seemed to be working fine since I did a complete format and re-install of everything, but here's the situation...
I have my DVD designed and ready to go. I go into Project Info and sure enough, as long as the Encoding quality is set to "Best Performance", everything is encoding. However, if I change it to High or Professional Quality, the Assets/Encoding windows resets, goes gray and the files never start to encode.
The only thing I can think of is that iDVD thinks I am too low on drive space. I'm using a MacBook Pro with 55 GB free. There's nothing on here that doesn't need to be (I even erased my original video files to clear off more space) but iDVD just won't encode. No error messages, no warning. Just nothing. Switching back to Best Performance and the files start encoding immediatly.
Any ideas on why it won't? Do I need to go out and spend more money I don't have an on external firewire drive to do a simple video DVD?
    Thanks.
    Matt

The format and re-install worked for me. I create an IMG first, and you can then mount that onto your system (place it on the desktop and double-click it) and it can be view just like a DVD by loading up the DVD player software.
But as I said, the tracks do not render until you start to create the DVD/img under High or Professional settings. It will render in the background under Best Performance, but the quality of that output isn't acceptable.
Give that a try and see if the final output works for you.

  • My iPhone 5 won't complete the sync with my PC...

my iPhone 5 won't complete the sync with my PC, says "waiting for items to copy (step 6 of 6)".  have left the PC and phone connected for up to 15 hours one time, and the status never changes.

I figure it out. Somehow, in my Advanced settings, password was somehow "de-selected" as my Authentication setting in Incoming Selections. I re-selected it, and now everything is back to normal...

  • Mobile account won't complete setup, initial sync won't complete.

I'm trying to setup a mobile account but it won't complete the sync process on the client MacBook Pro. Both the server and the MacBook Pro are running 10.5.5.
When I login to client it prompts me to create a Mobile account and proceeds with the sync to create the account, but when the sync is complete it just logs in with the default account setup. None of the user files or settings (desktop image, preferences, etc) appear. The sync process says "Checking..." for all the files that supposedly get copied to the client, but it looks like it doesn't complete.
Is there a way of knowing what the problem is? Is there an issue with the user's home directory, some file that prevents the sync and mobile home creation from completing?
    Thanks.

Forgot about getting this problem solved.
The user account that had this trouble had a copy of his home directory from a laptop in his home directory. This backup had it's own Library folder which was confusing the Mobile account sync process.
When I removed the backup home directory, the initial sync went fine.

  • IMac won't complete restart after upgrade to 10.5.6

I recently ran Mac OS upgrade 10.5.6, but iMac won't complete restart. After the apple appears, script appears across screen and a box appears in the middle telling me to restart my computer by "holding power button until shut down, then press on/off button again to restart. Any suggestions to try before taking machine to Apple Store?

Thank you everyone. The correct answer was a kernel panic, and although the resolve kernel panic links above did not offer a successful solution, it was a correct diagnosis. Following the Apple Troubleshooting steps allowed me to determine that a faulty third party keyboard was the cause. Restarting with shift, restarting with 'x,' and restarting with ctrl-option-r-p did not solve the issue. Unplugging the keyboard and restarting did identify the keyboard as the culprit. Thank you all for your help.

  • IDVD won't recognize imovie project

    Hello people.
I have an 09 Mac desktop computer. I have now made seven iMovie projects ranging from ten minutes to almost two hours. Each time I shared the project with iDVD to burn the finished product to disc. Each time I made sure I could play back the movie on our DVD player.
I was able to play back each of these movies on my computer as the files ( I am assuming they were files ) were automatically stored in a movies folder right after they were shared with iDVD from iMovie. Since they take up space on the hard drive, I decided to store the files on an external hard drive. I believe each one copied to the hard drive. Once each one was on the hard drive, I made sure I could play it back. Then I trashed each file on the computer, again making sure right after that I could still play each file on the external drive. They would open in iDVD and I could play them. All was good.
Recently I made another iMovie project of my children's high school play. As I did before, I shared it with iDVD and it appeared to be working as usual. It was to take approx. 30 minutes to create the movie from the project. HERE IS MY FIRST PROBLEM! Usually after the movie is created, it then opens in iDVD and from here I can burn to disc. iDVD did not open! I tried a couple of times and nothing. I then tried a short 30 second clip from iMovie with no titles or transitions or anything. This worked. iDVD opened after creating the short movie. My project is an hour long. Consequently with this project I shared it with the media browser and made it into an avi file. I then used a program ( Toast ) that came with my Roxio Converter ( VHS to DVD ) software to burn the movie to disc.
HERE IS MY NEXT PROBLEM!  I went to view the movies on my hard drive and iDVD won't recognize them. It says it can't find the missing audio and video files. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

    Hello darrenfromnanaimo
Cross your fingers for a satisfactory answer to the "NEXT PROBLEM."  When you copied the iDVD files to your external drive and deleted them on your computer -- hopefully you just deleted the iDVD files and not the iMovie files.  If that's the case, you can reconnect the external iDVD files to the original iMovie files and you're back in business (open the external iDVD project and use it's browser to find the original iMovie files).  If the iMovie files were deleted, that's a more difficult problem -- you'll need to recreate the iMovie files (re-import from the camcorder and re-edit), or you'll have to "rip" your DVDs back into an electronic file (which gives you only the finished product of your original editing, with slightly degraded video resolution).

Been trying to update my software to iOS 7.03 but it. Won't complete, it's make some apps stuck too, please help

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.
If that doesn;t work, you can try updating through iTunes.

  • IDVD won't ecode audio, 'not responding' = force quit

    IDVD 6 /10.4.7/MACPRO
iDVD won't encode audio portion from iMovie had off.
original iMovie from DV camera, iMove encodes QT, etc
iDVD encodes video ( as noted by time bar) but when it gets to the audio portion it stops responding and then I have to forcve quit.
repaired persmissions, and delited the iDVD.plist
any thing I can do? iDVD 6 is the first time I used this after update

    Scooper,
iDVD is "not" slow (nor fast) encoding (actually transcoding) audio. iDVD relies on the Quicktime framework. iDVD invokes an external library from the set of resources provided by QT.
If the encoding appears to be slow. It may find its root in various origins. First, MacOSX is a Unix system. Unix is not "preemptive". It means that access to resources occurs thanks to a "good will" mode between processes (to make things short). So, it may appear that some processes are stale, but things are usually well under control (by the kernel). So, don't be hasty in killing a process reported as "not responding".
If you consider that the encoding process takes too much time, there are ways to make things better. First: More RAM. No workaround to that. Give some room to your Mac. Keep also in mind to keep free room on hard drive at least equal to 2 1/2 times the amount of RAM of your system. The Unix kernel of your Mac handles a "swap" that is used to virtually create an amount of RAM larger than what your system physically has. The kernel simply uses your hard-drive as buffer to store copies of RAM blocks occupied by portions of code or data not currently active. If all this is too small, the kernel will spend an awful amount of time dealing with the short space (RAM + free disk space for swap).
One way to figure out if you're in such case is to use one of the many administration tools available to you. Open Terminal (or a X11 xterm) and type 'top' (without quotes).
Check the last line of the header for the "pageouts" indicator. If the number in parenthesis is not zero (0), repeatedly, it means that your kernel is swapping memory block from the physical RAM to the virtual RAM stored on the hard drive (swapping).
Hit 'q' to quit top. You can also try 'top -o cpu'. This will get you which process is currently running requesting the most CPU resources. Normally, on a Unix system, if one process needs CPU and is mostly the only one at the moment asking for CPU, it can be allocated most of the available CPU time and jumps to over 80%. If you consider this "abnormal", just look at the "Load Avg." indicator. It tells you how many processes are "waiting" for their turn to access the CPU - it's averaged throughout the time, through 3 numbers. Remember the "good will" mechanism. If it remains low (up to 3, for a household Mac), then, do not worry. If it goes above, then try to quit some other user applications. An idle system reports numbers below 1.
These few sysadmin tips will tell you a lot about your system's health. Perhaps, you'll figure out by yourself what's wrong. For sure, not iDVD
Try perhaps upgrading to QT 7. There are benefits to that.
    T.
