IDVD wrong about allowing burn to DVD

My son has an account on my system so he can create and burn a DVD. The videos come from his iPod.
iDVD keeps telling me that he is not permitted to burn DVDs. Yet under parental controls it has the Allow box checked.
Am I missing something? Any other settings I have to change to allow this?

Parental controls is not the issue here IMO. But it may have to do with read vs. write privileges ...
Select your main HDD (Boot Volume), then go to file and Get Info. Open the triange or bottom arrow where is says Sharing and Permissions. Click once on the yellow or gold lock on the very bottom right of this dialog box. Enter your password when prompted in the Finder. Lock should open. Now select / check the box for both read and write for those whom you wish to have full access to your mac. Restart your mac and you should be good to go. But if not, just come on back. Good luck.

After using iDVD, can my iMac burn a DVD ?
I mean how do I know whether my disk drive can write/burn DVD ?
Mine is a 24" iMac bought some 5 months ago.
    Thanks

Assuming your mac has at least 25 GB's of available hard drive space on the boot volume and an S-Drive as opposed to a combo drive; the latter only reads dvd's while the former both reads and writes to dvd, then you should be able to, yes.
But follow the iMovie> iDvd Tutorial/s first.

Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

  • How do I import my iMovie to iDVD so I can burn a DVD

I finished my iMovie HD 5.0.2 project and want to burn it to DVD 5.0.1. I know I have to go through iDVD, but it will not import when I click on "share." Apple walked me through this once, so I know it can be done, but I've brain-cramped. Please help! Thanks

Not sure why you posted in the AirPort Extreme forum regarding a question about iDVD and iMovie.

  • What codec does iDVD 09 use to burn the DVD?

    Hello All,
I might be looking in the wrong place, but I couldn't find this information. Does it use MPEG2? Can I use H.264?
    thanks,
    Mike

DVDs use 720x480 mpeg2, with AC3 audio or PCM audio up to 24bit/96khz. They also accept halfD1 mpeg2 and mpeg1, although that is not used much at all these days. Every DVD you are probably familiar with uses 720x480 mpeg2.
H.264 is not part of the DVD spec; it is used in Blu-ray, as are VC1 and mpeg2 in high-def resolutions.
Also, it doesn't matter what format you feed iDVD; it will transcode to mpeg2. Just be sure to use a good editing format that won't degrade quality. H.264 is a bad choice; the transcoding to mpeg2 will introduce problems.

  • IDVD won't allow burning...

I get an error message saying "Error in Project Structure" and "there is an empty slideshow in your project. Make sure every slideshow has at least one image blah blah blah..."
I have created a slideshow in iPhoto and exported to QT 7 pro, then imported the .mov to iDVD. Preview button plays beautif1.67 GHzully. Why won't it burn?
    Thanks,

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how I might be able to get this working?

  • HT6196 When I try to "share" my movie project via "File" the process "fails after a short while.  I do not know why this is happening.  I want to send my movie file to IDVD so I can burn a DVD disc of my project.

When I try to "share" my IMovie project via "File", the process "fails", after a short time.  I am following the instuctions;  Click share>file>next > except it hasn't download to save.  The blue circle never completes its circle before I says it failed.  What am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to transfer it from the iPad to your desktop?  Have you tried AirDrop?

  • How do I split a project in IMovie into two projects?  When I try to burn a DVD RDL in IDVD, it tells me the movie is too long.

I am running  IMovie 8.0.6.  (OS X Mavericks 10.9.5) How do I split a project into two projects?  When I share it in Media Browser to IDVD, and try to burn a DVD- RDL, it keeps telling me the project is too long.  Do I split it in IDVD and how do I do that?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

  • Idvd will not burn a dvd

I have tried to burn a dvd with no luck, I have a macbook for over two years and never has the idvd been able to burn a dvd. The dvd is ejected just before it is done "less than a minute remaining" the disk is always blank. I have put several projects together in idvd and can only view it on my macbook. Everything is updated, I have spent alot of time tring to get the idvd to burn but no luck. Is there anything else that I can use to burn a dvd?

Compose the DVD, recording it to the desktop. Will have img after the name. After you've composed the DVD ready for burn, instead of using iDVD, choose from the top left, drop down menu, for burn to disc image. (That's the same menu drop down you use for choosing your film in the first place.) When that's done, click on the disc icon which has appeared on the desktop, that one with img after the name, and that will make a box appear showing video and audio records. Click on the red + to get rid of it. That action will have made the disc to be seen and ready for burn in Utilities. Chose Go from the screen top and then Utilities - Disc Utility App. On the left side of the box is that name followed by img. Click on it. Go the top and in Images menu go down to burn and click on it. Your drawer ready for the burn should open. Pace your disk in the tray and choose Close. When Burn comes up, small box to the right, click on that and await results. Good luck.

  • How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

Move your iPhoto Library and/or your iTunes library to and external HD that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and run them from there. Be sure to try the libraries on the EHD before you delete them from the boot drive.
This should easily free up the 25 GB minimum needed for iDVD to create and burn video DVD efficiently.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IDVD hangs up in "creating your DVD"

I just got a new iMac and am using the latest iDVD version to write a short video I shot (only 14 minutes long) as a test. It has two simple chapter marks. The iMovie encodes well and I send it to iDVD. It asks for a disk (I am using DVD-R) then the Burn icon starts rotating... and rotating ... and rotating. Three hours later I gave up and cancelled the burn. The current operation is "writing" but nothing has happened in three hours. Any help
I have burned much longer complex stuff in the previous iDVD on my G3

It has two simple chapter marks.
Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline. Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition. Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
iDVD 5.0.1 may appear to hang for a few minutes during audio encoding. See my Topic:

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
b Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • How to Make a Still from Video and Burning a DVD

    Hello All,
I am using FCP HD and I would like to know how do you make a still photo from video footage?
Also I have to burn an editing project to dvd. I don't know how to use studio pro, but the person said that it needs to be a ntsc full resolution version. I am not sure what that means.
The project is about 10 minutes long and this person had me using the H.264. I have been playing around and I think I not doing something write because when I send the project to compressor it tells me that I have like 200+ hours befoe it outputs.
Could someone give me some simple instructions using the H.264 on how to do a good large size (over 320x240) QT movie to dvd?
    THANKS...

To export a still park the playhead on the image you want, mark IN OUT, go to FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME CONVERSION. Click on QUICKTIME MOVIE and In the dropdown choose STILL IMAGE.
You will have to De-Interlace it in Photoshop after you export.
    As for making the DVD:
    Shane's Stock Answer #3:
To export your DV project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, fot this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained and you are set.
Import this into iDVD or DVDSP and burn your DVD. Don't go the h.264 route.

Can anyone tell me how to import a Final cut movie into iDVD so I can burn a DVD. When I try it say's the files not compatible. I have to have this done by Wednesday, so I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

    Hi Zachary,
I have FCE, but my directions say:
"To export a QuickTime movie for use in iDVD:
    1. Select a clip of sequence in the Browser or open a sequence in the Timeline.
    2. Make sure to clear all In and Out points in the Timeline by Control-clicking in the Timeline, then choosing Clear In and Out.
    3. Choose File>Export>QuickTime Movie."
After you do this, save the QT movie. Close FC. Launch iDVD, Navigate to the Media tab, select Movies, find you FC QT movie and drag it into your DVD menu screen.
    Hope this is of help.
