IDVD6 Intro track before main menu loads?

The only reason I use final cut is in order to have a little intro movie graphic play on dvd insertion before the main menu comes up ... anyone know if this will this be doable in iDVD6? hints at the possibility in the graphic organisation of the dvd hierarchy.

alllrighty then. Looks like 5 did this already in map view. So happy. Goodbye studio pro (not final cut .... maybe imovie will replace that too) , hello again iDVD.

Video before Main Menu

Hey,
I want to have a simple video prior to my main menu. I have set the video to First Play then end action my video to my Main Menu. I clicked on the project preview, and it played smoothly into it. However, when I build the DVD, the video is missing and it goes straight into the main menu. Please help.

If you are viewing on a computer, this may be a problem with the DVD player emulation.
To test, burn to a disk and play on a DVD player.
Edit: your workflow sounds right; you might post a screenshot of your flowchart to make sure it doesn't show an issue.

How can I place asset before main menu

This is my second time working in DVD Pro and I can't remember how I put my logo in the beginning of the DVD.

Just set your logo to be your First Play item and then have that End Jump to your Main Menu (or wherever...)

Main Menu Audio - Multiple tracks play randomly aka shuffle?

I've noticed in Inspector that I can at least add more than one track to the menu audio section, but is there any way to designate the music to play on shuffle, so that each time the main menu loads (or each time the disc itself is loaded) that it doesn't always play the same menu audio?

Usually it is best ot to start immediately with a menu, something like a track with 5 seconds of black works well, but then send the end jump to the same script. You can also assign the menu command for tracks to jump to the same script. Take a look [here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/trackmarkers.php] (press F3 key to get the general view), and highlight the track and you will see menu commands for the track and each marker in the track. Set the menu to go to the script....

HT1366 My MacBook OS X version 10.6.8 is not going to sleep, keeps loading, then when turned on a blank screen appears, I shut it and the main menu comes up and then it takes awhile for the cursor to operate. Thanks

My MacBook wouldn't go to sleep, it keeps loading, so I have to turn it off. When I turn it on a blank screen comes on, I shut the lid and open it and the main menu screen comes up but the cursor won't work for awhile. Then, eventually, the cursor will work and everything is fine. Hmmm?

DVD not opening with main menu when loaded.

I created a DVD with three short movies and three slide shows. I've made several similar type DVDs and they all open with the main menu when loaded. But in this case, when loaded in the player, it opens with the first movie, not the main menu.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Open Map View within iDvd. Is there a movie in the top / first box? If so, select it (one click) and hit the delete key. Now preview your iDvd. If it plays as expected (including the menu and buttons) then proceed with encoding and burning it to Verbatim dvd-r.

.MOV file that insists on not playing before the main menu

I have a little Movie(.mov) that I want to play before the main menu shows up. I am setting it as first play.When I test my dvd project it works. But when I build it and test it outside encore cs3 it doesnt appear.
what is wrong with it?

As Eric said, this can't be done. It's not a limitation of DVDSP as such, but the way DVDs in general work. Pressing stop means.. stop!
What you might consider is using the 'menu' button to go to a menu, or the 'title' button to do the same thing. I don't mean that to sound sarcastic at all - your request to use 'stop' is a pretty frequent one and generally folk want to go to a menu. Tis what the menu key was designed to do, of course...

How to auto return to main menu after track plays

On my main menu I have two buttons. Each accesses a different video asset. But when the user selects one of the videos to play at the end of play I need the user to be returned to the main menu. Currently, at the end of video play the screen just sits on the last frame, which is black, and does not return to the main menu. In the simulator, if I hit the menu button it goes back to the main menu but I would like it to return to the main menu automatically after the video that has been selected is finished playing. I have searched through the DVD SP manual and so far can't find out how to do this. Do I have to write a script for this simple action? Is there a setting that simply makes a target track jump back to the main menu after it plays? Thanks as ever for your excellent advice.

You need to set the end jump for the track... click on the track in the outline or graphical view, look in the property inspector. Near the top there is a drop down for the end jump - use that to set where to go back to... in your case the menu.

How do I add a clip that starts before 1st menu appears

I need to find out if there is a way for me to show film clip right after I start the DVD and before the 1st menu is shown.
I only want to show it the 1st time the DVD is placed in a drive.
Is there a way to do that in DVD SP 2

As David said... but I would definitely use a track and set it as first play, then set the end jump of that to go to the main menu. This is how warning screens, etc, are generally done.
If you use a menu you'll need to be sure throughout the rest of the DVD that the Title button on the remote doesn't point to your item... using a track will avoid this need.

Trouble scrolling on the main menu using my dvd player.

I can't seem to move to the scenes button when I'm on the main menu using my DVD player. This function seems to work fine on my computer. Before I burn another (very long) disc and try again, does anyone have any suggestions?

You set it by changing the menu's property for the default button. This is one of the reasons a separate menu is generally used. If you have a single menu with 3 buttons ("play movie," "subtitle on," and "subtitle off"), and you set the default to "Active Subtitle Track," then your "play movie" button won't ever be the default.
To play with this and to decide how you want your disk to work, create a test EN project with 2 menus. Rename one of them "Main Menu" with 2 buttons "Play Movie" and "Subtitle Setup." Rename the second menu "Subtitle Setup" with 3 buttons, "Subtitle On," "Subtitle Off," and "Main Menu." As noted, the "Default Button" property for the menu "Subtitle Setup" will be "Active Subtitle Track." The button "Subtitle On," using specify link, will link to its own menu, default button, but will specify Subtitle 1. Same for the button "Subtitle Off," except that it will specify Subtitle Off. The Main Menu button simply links to the main menu.
Note that in Encore preview, do not use your computer mouse to hover over the buttons. It will trick you into thinking that you have or have not set the behavior correctly. Use the little remote function in the bottom of the preview window.

Updated my iPad to lastest version, when using one of the app I have on the iPad not all of the pages work. One page I go onto it flip straight back to the main menu. Any one know how to correct this.

II'm a driving instructor using an iPad with an app for instructing, since the update version done on Friday the app won't work on all pages, the payment page just flicks back to main menu on the iPad, can't work out how or why. Anyone got some answers.

Apple TV locked up on main menu and then goes to screen saver. Still locked

Apple TV not even 18 months old. Now out of warranty. Have reset by pulling the plug out aswell as holding the 2 buttons on the remote for 6 secs. No luck. After pulling the plug out for 30 secs and then back in, the Apple intro movie plays, then it goes to main menu. Cursor stuck on Top Movies. It won't budge and I know the remote works as I see the yellow light on the front of Apple TV working and it also works with my Macbook Pro. After the main menu appears the screen saver comes on and its still not responding to my remote.
Any suggestions please? I'll be bummed if I have to throw this out after 18 months as it cost a few $ and I don't believe Apple will fix it for free. BTW it has been working brilliantly for the last 18 months when connected to my MB Pro. Now its connected to my iMac. In iTunes where I sync everything, I have told it not to sync anything so that the Apple TV is now empty of content. Still no luck. U would think they would have put a hard reset button on the back like they have for my AE Base station/router.

I can confirm that the remote is still working by using it with my MB Pro. I have not changed any settings with the remote re pairing/unpairing.
In a nustshell, I took all my media from my much smaller MB Pro and put it on my much larger iMac. I then added a huge amount of music files to the iMac and in turn synced it with the Apple TV - all 160Gb of the Apple TV was then full. Then it seemed to stop working. In particular when I tried to play an MPEG4 movie that had previously played, it came up with an error message of sorts stating that the video could not be played due to an unrecognised format.
I even tried to play an iTunes documentary that I had d/loaded from the Apple store that also previously played. Same error message.
I can't try the unpairing command as the Apple TV will not respond to the remote. Its off at a repair shop so will let the forum know of what success I may have!

Chapters and Main Menu

Hi, I created my whole video but I can't figure out how to insert chapters into my video. I am using iMovie '08 and I can't even find it in the help menu. Also, how do I add a main menu where you can select play, or select chapters.

Chaptering has been moved to GarageBand along with the "Send to iDVD" routine. Export from iMovie '08 to the video format you want to be sent to iDVD. Then create/open a GarageBand project and load your iMovie '08 exported clip. Chapter your movie, perform your final audio mixes (audio was converted AIFF when opened in Garageband), and "Send" the file to iDVD. Send option will place original Video track, original Audio Track (turned off), the AIFF Audio mix track (turned on), and the Chapter text track into an MOV container andtransfer it to iDVD which will automatically open, create your main movie menu, and create your "Chapter" sub-menu(s) (if that preference is set) in the currently defaulted theme.

DVD hangs before reaching menu

I'm new to iMovie and iDVD; this is day 3.
I succesfully burned DVDs of versions 0.1 and 0.2 of my project, but my third version doesn't yield a usuable disk (or disk image file). It hangs after about 1 or 2 seconds, just before the menu/theme. Furthermore the music for the main asset (created in iMovie) starts playing immediately, instead of the sound associated with the title or menu.
I've destroyed and rebuilt the iDVD project a few times with the same results. I've repaired the permissions. The OS and all the apps are the latest versions.
Any ideas what to try next?

Could you clear that up...? What did you do?
The map of the Marquee theme shows two clips: a flashy intro and a marquee. The flashy intro starts automatically then segues into the marquee menu. My problem DVD was hanging at the transition, never showing the marquee.
In the version that worked, I selected the intro clip (in Map view) and hit the delete key. Then the clip showed "Drag content here to automatically play when the disk is inserted." I left that clip empty. When I made a disk image it worked fine with the marquee showing at the very outset.
