IE 11 for window 7 needs SP1

Trying to install IE 11 for windows 7 but get prompted that I need sp1 for it to work. When I look at my updates I have SP2. Have things changed? Does not SP2 superceed SP1? Do I need to install SP1? Will this cause issues?

Hi,
Microsoft doesn't release Windows 7 SP2.  How did you get it?
Please right click Computer to open its Properties, under
View basic information about your computer section, you will see as below:
There you could check your Windows edition.
If it's not Windows 7 SP1, please download and install it from below address:

  • What's the right JDK version for windows vista SP1

    Hello guys,
I’m trying to install SQL Developer on my old Windows Vista SP1 but as soon as I run it I got a message: Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
I was reading a post and this problem could be solved by installing the JDK. I went to the Java Archive Download website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness`/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html) and I downloaded 3 versions but none of them are working. There’re tons of them and I really don’t know which one should be the one to be installed in order to get the SQL Developer working. Any chance someone can help me solve this issue?
These are the errors I got when I run the installers:
    Jdk-6u26-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u26-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application. Size of the file downloaded: 7140KB
Jdk-6u26-windows-x64 – error: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. (I was quite careless downloading this version cause I know my computer is 32-bit or x86) size of the file downloaded: 69,043KB
    Jdk-6u37-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u37-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application sizeof the file downloaded: 67,756KB
    Thanks loads

    This one should do it.

I suspect an issue with your download if you are getting the invalid application message

  • Cleanup WinSxS folder of Windows 7 Sp1

Microsoft released an update to cleanup WinSxS.
Go this this KB article and install the update:
Update is available that enables you to delete outdated Windows updates by using a new option in the Disk Cleanup wizard in Windows 7 SP1
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2852386
When you now launch the disk cleanup (as admin) you get an option "Windows Update Cleanup":
Click ok to start cleanup. now you must reboot Windows 7. After the reboot you get a screen which shows you that cleanup happens:
You can get more information here:
Breaking News! Reduce the size of the WinSxS Directory and Free up Disk Space with a New Update for Windows 7 SP1 Clients

"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

Horinius - you have to reboot for the clean up to occur. WHen I did, it cleaned up the amount of disk space that the Cleanup manager said, but my winsxs folder had about 8 GB more, most of which is files and folder that at 3+ years old. My theory is that
this is garbage that my IT department left behind when they build the standard image.
Anyone know how to delete the rest of the trash in WinSxS?
Of course we have to reboot for the clean up.  Did I say we didn't have to?
If you want to do the "Windows Update cleanup" (as specified in the original post), there's no need to use this "Cleanup manager".  You just need to open "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything inside it.
Please read carefully my posts before commenting.

Thank you Don, MS Fixit site.
But, MS Fixit cannot all Fix it for Windows 7 sp1, Mar 2014.
Because MS Fixit cannot be filter OS version like Windows 7 SP1,
and cannot search Application version like Office 2010, Internet Explorer 8,

  • ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client on Windows 7 SP1 x86 causes "Program Compatibility Assistant" to appear

After I upgraded to R2 I am seeing the message below on newly installed Windows 7 SP1 x86 machines when I go to Control Panel and open the Configuration Manager Properties and then close it. This seems to only happen on 32-bit Win7 not on 64-bit.
I have created a new package for the client from definition and I also tried building new images using my Build and Capture task sequences. In this case I get the same message on the x86 Windows 7 SP1 machine if I log on after the Build & Capture is
done. My Build And Capture sequences uses the RTM-image for Windows 7 SP1 that has been patched using Offline Servicing.
Has anyone else seen this? Everything is working normally on the clients and if I click "This control panel works correctly" the message goes away. However, if I click "Open the control panel using recommended settings" that results in
admin-rights being required to open the Configuration Manager Properties under the Control Panel.

How did you go with this? We're still seeing this issue migrating Windows 7 x86 machines from the ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 R3/ConfigMgr 2012 client to the ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client in multiple environments.

  • QUICKTIME 7.1.3 SECURITY UPDATE FOR WINDOWS? Where is it?

How do I get the security update (2007-001) for the WINDOWS version of QuickTime? Do I just download and install the standalone player again?
As an IT professional who is constantly trying to stick up for apple in a pro-Microsoft world, I find it ridiculous that there is no mention of how windows users can protect themselves from this security flaw, at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304989
It only talks about the OSX version, and the updater in the windows quicktime player just tells me it's up to date with 7.1.3... but 7.1.3 is the only version affected by the security flaw!
    The bug:
    http://projects.info-pull.com/moab/MOAB-01-01-2007.html

The solution for Windows clients is un-acceptable. This is a critical security flaw that could result of remote code execution and possible system compromise.
We cannot sit back and expect thousands of enterprise users to manually go out and update QuickTime. Worse yet if they didn't enable the updater when they installed QuickTime.
A separate downloadable patch for QuickTime for Windows needs to be made available ASAP whereas it can be deployed via existing distribution methods just like we do all other "Critical" security updates.
When will a downloadable patch be available?
If not, our only recourse may be to force the un-install of QuickTime as an unmanageable product.

    Other Information
    1. Server OS - Windows 2008 R2 servers. ~20 servers with 7 DC's.
    2. Windows OS - Windows 7 x32 SP1 workstation. ~1200
    3. This happens on wireless and wired connections.
    4. This happens across all hardware and models of laptops and desktops.  Ranging from GX270 - Opti 760, Latitude D510 - Latitude E6410, Latitude 2100 - Latitude 2120's and all models in between.
    5. We are currently using SCCM 2012 to deploy images and applications.  The image was created through SCCM using Build and Capture so I never touched the image.
    6. The drivers were downloaded from Dell but this is happening on multiple machines so I don't think its driver related.
    7. We are using Forefront Antivirus.
    8. We upgraded the machines to 2Gig of ram and upgraded them from XP to Windows 7 this summer.
    9. We upgraded the servers from Windows 2003 R2 to Windows 2008 R2 this summer just before deploying Windows 7.
    10. This is only reported through the helpdesk on less than 10 computers each week but I'm told it happens more frequently when I'm in the buildings.
    11. We are using Group Policies to manage almost all aspects of the computer except for printers.  The printer drivers we are using are so slow that it added 60 to 180 seconds to the login time so I moved the printer mapping to a vbscript that
is launched through the logon script through a GPO.
Users are holding the power button in to shut down the machine as they can typically log in a second time without issues.  I have heard that a few people have issues logging into the computer the second time but it's normally running by the
    time I heard about it.
Are there any other logs that I can look at to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks for taking the time to read this issue.

Hmmm hard to say. If I was going to take a stab at it you might be hitting a DC in a remote site.

  • Issue Installing SP2 for Windows Server 2008 SP1

Hello, I have a very annoying issue, and I hope someone can help a bro out.
    Server: Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-bit
Issue: SP2 wont install on Windows Server 2008 SP1
This is what I am seeing when I check the event viewer:
    1. (Information) Windows Servicing is setting package KB948465(Service Pack) state to Staging(Staging)
    2. (Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 948465-382_neutral_GDR from package KB948465(Service Pack) into Staging(Staging) state
I have no idea why this is coming up, nor why the server cant fix the issue, but now I am forced to deal with it. So if anyone has any helpful tips it would be greatly appreciated.
What I have done so far:
I have downloaded the standalone SP2 file from microsoft, and tried to install, still failed. Just sent me to the prereq page, which is pretty useless considering the fact I already have SP1 installed, and nothing new has changed physically or digitally
    in the system.
Also, although not a huge issue, I also have a security update that is failing, basically with the same issue as the SP. Below is its Error event log.
(Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 974318-11_neutral_LDR from package KB974318(Security Update) into Staging(Staging) state
Im hoping that upon discovering the SP issue, I can resolve the security update issue, as the errors have the same issue(failed to complete staging state).Thank you for your time.
~I will provide any further info if needed.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction Milos. Yes I ALWAYS google my issues before going on forums for help. And to no avail. However, below is the relevant info(sorry I did not post this the first time;first time dealing with an issue like this,
so I wasnt for shore what relevant data pertained to this issue):
I also did not copy and paste the entire log in here(obviously) because its huge, however I will post link to full file if requested/needed, but hopefully I grabbed the entire log for my SP2 update failure issue. All I can grab from this log is that the
CBS failed. However, I have no clue where to go after that..
