IE 6 & 7 display problem (perhaps function swap problem?)

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I have scanned blog after blog and forum after forum to no avail.
I have the job of cleaning up another developer's code which does not display properly. The problem is that all is well in the world (or on this web site) except for pages that use function swap(). These pages do not display properly in IE 6 and IE7. They do display properly in IE 8, Firefox and Safari. The other pages of the site display fine in all browsers.
The header displays and then the rest of the page is displaced off to the right rather than below the header as if it is flowing out of the container somehow.
This is one of the pages that does not display properly in IE6 and IE7. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You have some invalid code there that may be causing it.
With your chosen doctype, you must close paragraph elements with </p> - and do not include paragraphs within paragraphs (line 99, for instance) or tables within paragraphs (twice on your page).
In main.css, body{}, delete zoom: 1 ;
And in .footer{}, change
border: 0 px;
to
border: 0px;
And in .header{} add height: 46px;
I think that'll get you in the ballpark.

  • Display Problems With My Powermac G5

    I just got a used Powermac G5. It's the first-generation G5 machine, the Power Mac 7,2 model, which shipped with OSX 10.2 on it and the one I got had been sitting in a closet since the days of Jaguar and never upgraded.
    Way back when I had only one computer, an eMac running OSX 10.4 (standard install that it came with), I created a bootable backup of it on a Firewire drive and of late I've been using that as a boot drive to test new Macs I want to add to my collection (since new purchases often come with pulled hard drives or no operating systems, and I need an easy way to make sure it starts up before I pay for it). It's usually worked, but this one doesn't. It boots off the external drive and will happily run OSX 10.4 off it, but the display is all glitched; it's mostly black and white with a few colours and virtually unusable. Funny thing is that to the extent I can view it at all, I looked at System Preferences— it claimed the monitor had defaulted to 8-bit colour but that it had actually loaded the graphics card's driver and recognised the card as an ATI Radeon 9600, the stock card for that model and also the stock card for the eMac I cloned that copy of OSX 10.4 from.
    Only problem is that I don't think the stock card is still in that machine, as it's been heavily modified. It came with an ADC connector, which is now removed in favour of a second DVI connector (which is a pity; given the tendency of old computers to come in lots, I have a buildup of ADC monitors) and System Profiler claimed 256 MB of onboard video RAM which is a bit much for a 9600 which I believe only came with 64.
    After some experimentation, I learned that this machine WILL boot OSX 10.5 from my external drive (but with the same issues). I also learned that it already has an operating system installed— OSX 10.2, the one it shipped with. This one works without the graphical issues, and its system profiler continues to insist that the machine has a Radeon 9600 graphics card. (I haven't had the chance to open it up and check, but it seems strange.) The Displays panel will not allow me to select any resolution other than the current one.
    I wonder if any of this is caused by my use of an Acer monitor; would it be happier with an Apple monitor? Are special drivers required? The two operating systems I booted from the external drive both came from systems with built-in displays.

    By sheer luck, one of my newer acquisitions came with an OSX 10.4 install DVD, so I decided to take it for a spin in the G5 to see if it was really the graphics card or just some driver issue caused by the fact that the systems on the external drive were default installs pulled from other computers and not "universal" installs.
    When I booted off the install disc, the display was glitched as with any other attempt to boot OSX 10.4, but I was able to muddle my way through an install nonetheless, and when I finished, the completed install had a perfectly functional display!
    Well, functional except that the display panel of System Preferences still can't select anything other than the monitor's native resolution.
    I still think it's some sort of software issue; the machine's default OS provides a functional display, a "universal" install of OSX 10.4 provides a functional display, but a default install pulled from an eMac or a Macbook, and the limited system one gets booting off an install disc produces a glitched display.
    Apparently, there's an ATI driver package for the 9600 PC + Mac edition available to download; maybe that will fix the displays panel in System Preferences?

  • Display problem T520

    I have a T520 4239CTO.  Win 7pro.  I'm having a display problem.  There's a 1 cm grey line 2/3rd down the screen.  The image is split--part of the top display is at the bottom.  The color on the screen rotates between orange, red, blue, green, etc.
    I use the Lenovo update so my drivers, etc are up to date.
    How do I figure out what is wrong?  I'm currently using a 9-in portable monitor so I can use the laptop on the road.
    I've run some of the basic Lenovo diagnostics but it doesn't seem to find anything wrong.  Perhaps I'm not using the diagnostic software correctly.
    Any ideas?  Thanks

  • IBook G4 Display Problem

    I am having a display problem that looks exactly like the video link below:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFzfdq3xMrI
    What could be the cause of the problem?
    Some possibilities:
    If the display cable, how can this be replaced without taking the whole thing apart - is there a simpler way?
    If a video card heatsink problem, is this an easy fix?
    Many Thanks.

    This appears to be a continuation of an issue you noted in September, as the
    display had some problems then and after trying a few things, it seemed to be
    stable at the time.
    Perhaps the components involved with the iBook then are behind this problem.
    Does not seem any easy path could be available to fix the problem, since the
    parts most likely to be affecting or contributing to the symptom are deep enough
    into the computer to require tedious disassembly effort. And odd screw locations.
    Looking into the iFixit guide for iBook G4 12" 800MHz to 1.2GHz series build:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G4_12%22_800_MHz-1.2_GHz these
    items may be weak or failing: the inverter, inverter/airport cables, and there
    may be an indirect issue with the data display cable as they get bent & can
    fail. The rolling & flickering image may be the inverter, but there are a few
    components that essentially are not replaceable on the logic board that can
    be the cause of display failure when these other items have not failed.
    And a failing graphic processor or overheating may be contributory causes to
    the symptoms. A complete diagnostic test, probably beyond most AASPs interest
    may be required to troubleshoot the device accurately. So many don't want to fix
    the older hardware, perhaps they're fearful of someone not willing to pay a lot to
    have an older machine repaired. Hard to say...
    You may need to enlist the aid of a specialist who restores and refurbishes
    Apple portable computers and who has sufficient facilities to repair almost
    everything in most any of these computer models... wegenermedia.com.
    Since they have devised methods to fix these correctly & more efficiently
    that may be a way to go. To call them &/or email after looking at their web
    site can be helpful to discuss the matter and their processes of repair, etc.
    Sorry to not be of much help, but in the process of locating correct service
    and repair, you may also consider obtaining a second iBook or something
    that can run the software of that vintage, to extend the usefulness of it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sort by kind display problem - only folder icons

    Hi, I have the following problem with Finder in Lion (happened in all 10.7.0 to 10.7.3):
    When I use the "sort by kind" function in Lion, usually the categorie is displayed in a lighter text with a line underneith. Now it happens from time to time (suddenly) that the display changes and instead of the lighter text, the categories are displayed as "folders". Except they are not folders, the sorting still works and I cannot click on them. The category titles just look like folders and even have a folder icon in front of them.
    When I re-select "Sort by kind" the problem is gone for a while.
    I took a screenshot of how it is supposed to look: http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3913/findergood.png
    And how it looks after Lion changes to the "display problem view": http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/2347/finderbad.png
    Note that in the second screenshot the very left column still behaves like expected but every layer underneith (that is to the right of it) has the display problem.
    I also encountered that when this happens, I am not able to simply drag-and-drop files in Finder anymore. Instead I have to select them first (by blicking on them) and then drag them. Usually this first click to select is not necessary. Again, after re-selecting "sort by kind" this problem is gone.
    Also, this happened on all the Macs I own that run Lion, so I'm pretty sure it is not a system specific problem.
    Is there a solution to this issue?

    Does no one have any idea on this?

  • Table layout and image display problems

    Im having a few problems at the moment, designing a layout
    using tables. I need to have 3 seperate tables, 1 for the left
    side, 1 for middle and 1 for the right. However I can only get the
    left and middle table on the same row, after that the right table
    jumps down to the next row.
    My second problem is with some images displaying in the
    preview. 3 images wont display, they are the same extension (.jpg),
    in the same folder as the rest but unlike the others wont display.
    I can swap them out for other images which display fine so I cant
    understand why they arent showing.
    Any help would be most appreciated.

    Use a three column, 1 row table, and put one of your tables
    into each of the

  • IMac 24" Display problem

    Hi,
    Im having display problem with my iMac 24" Early 2008.
    http://www.hockeystat.net/video.jpg
    I cant boot, after 20 seconds the OS freeze.
    I ran a full diagnostic with the Hardware Test...no error.
    http://www.hockeystat.net/video_test.jpg
    Any idea ?
    Thank you
    Luc

    1 - connect an external display; if the external display works ok then there may be a problem with your iMac's display panel or perhaps the inverter board. If the external display does not work then the problem may be with the graphics chip on the logic board.
    2 - try booting from the OS X installation DVD? Will it boot that way?
    3 - did you recently upgrade to Snow Leopard? If so, did this problem start immediately after upgrading? If you upgraded, did you do an erase & install; or an archive & install?
    4 - do you have AppleCare coverage?

  • Firefox display problems

    Hello all,
    We're using Flash Paper 2 to make some extra documents
    available in external HTML pages from a flash site.
    These work fine in all browsers except for Firefox where only
    the top half of the document is visible - it's all functional, but
    there's some display problem
    thanks for any ideas

    I am having almost the same problem that Jon reports. I have
    made a PDF using the FlashPaper 2 that came with Studio 8. When the
    link to this PDF is clicked in MSIE 6 or NN 7.1, the PDF displays
    normally. When I do the same in Firefox 1.5.0.6 the PDF never
    finishes loading and never displays at all. Oddly when I click a
    link to view PDFs created through other means, they display
    normally in the Adobe Reader plug in for Firefox. So this appears
    to be a problem that is unique to PDFs produced with FlashPaper 2
    when the viewing is attempted in Firefox. Two of the three pieces
    of software, FlashPaper and Reader, are Adobe products, so I hope
    that someone at Adobe will take ownership of this problem and find
    out what needs to be corrected.

  • TX2 - 1370 US VIDEO DISPLAY problem ....

    hello friends i am new to this forum.. i brought a new HP TX 2 - 1370 US laptop from amazon site in USA and now using it in INDIA  since 10 months ... it came  with AMD processor and ATI raedon HD 4200 graphics . it came with 4 GB DDR 2 ram .
    it worked fine for 11 months .. i started using the laptop for more time these days around 10 hrs a day or so . yesterday morning when   switched on the laptop  the screen is blank and only quick launch buttons are blinking and caps lock buton .. i connected the laptop to a working monitor but no response .
    i took it to service centre in INDIA and they changed the RAM and exchanged the slots of RAMS but it didnt work ..and they said there is no warrenty for that models in INDIA ..
    i finally went to 3rd party repair shop and they said its due to defective video chip .. it needs to be replaced and they are getting many laptops with similar  problems like this ...
    is there any way to fix that ? wat am i to do so that i dont ge t these type of problems again ?
    i am also using cooling fan for laptop an i am working in AC room with room temp set to 25degrees ...
    lease can anyone tell me wat to do  ?
    shall i get it repaired by 3rd party as i cant send it to USA again .. are the video chips in this model really defective ?
    thank you all ..........waiting for your responses....

    Hello!
    I just wanted to share my video display problem. Mine is a tx2-1375dx.  When is turned ON cold, it shows rubbish, like the sequence shown next. The problem persists using an external video display or projector.
    Then, instead, I warm up the back of the display with a hair dryer, not too much, but that feel the heat has transfered inside, the Tx2 runs just fine. I also keep a fan cooling pad underneath instead of having the inner fan run 24x7.
    So I guess the video chip has a thermal sensor that is being signaled when the display is warm and then runs fine. This would mean part of the functionality of the video chip may have been compromised by heat on the motherboard.
    Too bad a promising machine was so poorly designed inside. It becomes too hot to put on your lap, so is no longer a "laptop".
    So now, my other thing on my backpack to work is a hair dryer!
    Greetings from Central America!

  • HP G72 display problems...sometimes very grainy...and sometimes no display at all.

    Display is grainy sometimes with a blue tint.  Most of the time it will not come on at all.  When an External monitor is hooked up it looks and works great.  Display problem itself or video card problem??

    Hello , Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I came across your issue about the display, and wanted to help! If the notebook is working on the external monitor, then perhaps the display cable in your notebook is loose, or needs to be reconnected.  If you are comfortable with the process, you can take the notebook apart, to check if the display cable is properly secure.  You can use the following document to assist you, if needed:HP G72 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide (Chapter 4, Page 69-70). Here is an additional document, that may be helpful: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting a Notebook LCD Panel Issue (Windows 8/8.1, 7) If you are not comfortable with that process, then you may consider contacting HP Phone Support for additional options.  Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. • Wierd lines on my display and frequent lock-ups w/ and w/o display problems

    When booting I sometimes get weird lines and blocks on my display (the GRAY Apple screen) and then it hangs, other times the computer will boot and run fine for 20-30 minutes and then the display goes wonkers with blocks and lines and the computer does not respond. The only way I can get it to boot is to reset the PRAM by letting it CHIME 3x and then occasionally it will boot without issue and run, while other times I still get the blocks and lines on the display.
    When I am able to get it to recover and re-boot after the lock-up and display problems and occasionally the box in the middle asking me to re-boot similar to a kernel panic the OPS gives me the option to REPORT the error and here is the error for others who would know more...
    Thank you in advance,

    Anyone know what is causing my problems? I thought it was heat so I downloaded a CPU and FAN temperature monitor and the CPU was getting VERY HOT at first so I then ramped-up the CPU FAN SPEED to maximum - it turns out the CPU FAN was not rotating well at low speed - since then I have cleaned and checked the fans and they all work as they should and blow on high(er) when the CPU temperature is above a certain level.

    Is there a kb article or something that would illuminate what to look for in these logs, or is it a matter of learning by osmosis?
    Both. I am not skilled in reading logs. It is a very technical and time consuming task for the uninitiated (me!) In scanning a log I look for the backtrace and loading dependencies. The first item in the backtrace is usually the roadblock.
    Beyond that you can look at the Technical Note TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics

  • Display Problem with RowHeader of a Scroll Pane

    Hi,
    I am trying to display row headers for a table using another table
    Here is the code
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    public class RowNumberHeader extends JTable {
      protected JTable mainTable;
      public RowNumberHeader(JTable table) {
        super();
        mainTable = table;
        setModel(new RowNumberTableModel());
        setRowSelectionAllowed(false);
        JComponent renderer = (JComponent)getDefaultRenderer(Object.class);
      public int getRowHeight(int row) {
        return mainTable.getRowHeight();
      class RowNumberTableModel extends AbstractTableModel {
        public int getRowCount() {
          return mainTable.getModel().getRowCount();
        public int getColumnCount() {
          return 1;
        public Object getValueAt(int row, int column) {
          return new Integer(row + 1);
    }and then
            JTable displayTable = new JTable(...);
            scrollPane = new JScrollPane(displayTable);
            JViewport jvp = new JViewport();
            jvp.setView(new RowNumberHeader(displayTable));
            scrollPane.setRowHeader(jvp);the problem I have is that when a row is selected inside the row header, some rows go blank and you can see the selection is all screwed up. I tried setting the selection mode to ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_SELECTION but that didn't help.
    A refresh of the entire screen (minimize/maximize) seems to resolve the problem. I am using jdk1.4.1 in Windows 2000.
    Any ideas?
    Sylvain

    Again the problem is that when you click on the row headers, some row header rows go blank (completely white) so you can't see what they show.
    ie say I have table
    Row 1 - 1  2  3
    Row 2 - 2  4  5
    Row 3 - 5  7  7
    Row 4 - 5  6  7where Row X is the row header. So for example, if you click on Row 2, you will get something like
    Row 1 - 1  2  3
    Row 2 - 2  4  5
          - 5  7  7
    Row 4 - 5  6  7until the screen is refreshed or you click some other row header.
    hmm ok, I added calling repaint on the table whenever a row is selected and at least the display problem goes away; however, the selected indexes from the event don't always match the index of the row selected. I think actually that may be the source of the display problem.
    Here is the code I added in the constructor:
            getSelectionModel().addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener()
                public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e)
                    System.out.println("Header table selection is: First = " + e.getFirstIndex() +
                                       " Last = " + e.getLastIndex());
                    RowNumberHeader.this.repaint();
            });

  • My original post, locked by this forum. Display problem related

    Hi G5 Gurus,
    The display problem first, we all know when screen savers display, a click on the mouse will bring you back to the active desktop, this was how it worked., but now, sometimes a click cause the G5 to sleep!
    As for the sleep, I dare not to put it to sleep these days, because I am afriad it may cause a fire by over heating. Sometmes, actually four times in the past few months, my G5 could wake up by itself, followed by a extrem high speed running of the cooling fan, it sounded like a hair dryer running in the same room. Sometimes the sreen could light up, just like real wake up, sometimes, it was black. No clicks the mouse or keyboeard could bring it back to normal, I had to press and hold the power button to turn it off.
    This crazy problem happened for the first time last summer, a dead hard disk was the cost. Apple replaced it, but failed to detect the cooling or power or display problem. I was given one month extended free service, but right after its end, the problem was back and happened even more often.
    Please let me know if any of you had the same problem and please advise what to do.
    100s Gs of thanks.

    I have the EXACT same problem. In fact, I could not have described it better myself. What gives? I brought it in to the "genius" bar and they repolaced the power supply free of charge but the problem is still there. I noticed they ordered a new logic board but did not end up replacing it after all. Did you have yours replaced and did it work? Is this a known issue?

    Hi La teller,
    Thank you for your reply. The 'genius' here in London only replace the dead hard disk, which I belive was a victim of this problem. I was told they couldn't find anything wrong with the power supply or the cooling system.
    Now at lest I know I am not the only bad luck guy. Let's wait and see if others are having the same problem. I am not sure if this is a known issue to Apple, even if it is, it may take years before they can offer a recall or free repaire. I noticed that some G5s have already been suffering from power problems and a free repaire was offered.
    Thank you again and hope Apple can take our concerns into their consideration soon.

    Hello,
    I'm also having this problem (fan running, won't come out of sleep), just spoke with an apple care rep. He confirmed my suspition that it was software, not hardware as I have just had the logic board and power supply replaced.
    His suggestions were to:
    1. Run disk repair from the startup CD
    try running OS X from a firewire drive and see if the same behavior happens or
    perform and archive and install.
    When the fan starts to run like that it means the OS is not communicating with the hardware properly. The OS could be somewhat corrupt if you were having hardware issues beforehand, hence the need for a reinstall. I will be performing an archive and install after the disk repair, I'll let you know if it fixes the problem!

    Hi Stopha6,
    Thank you for your message. I never imagined it could be a software issue, cos it looked so hardware.
    Please keep me updated with your progress.
    By the way, as I said in my old posts, a hard disk went dead when this happened for the very first time, how do you read this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Stopha6,
    After reading your reply again, I realized that the system had already been reinstalled. As I said when it happened for the first time, the hard disk died with it, which was replaced, of course with a new OS X, but the same problem is still happening. May this suggest that it is not just a software problem? Thank you. Songyan

    The Fans going at full is only because you have an application that is using a lot of cpu power and therefore causing the imac to heat up so it turns the fans on. The screen-saver and sleep problem you describe sounds like something that may just happen on accident. But this sounds mostly like a software problem. Try making sure to always quit all non-apple products and see if anything changes.

    Thank you, Ag-Nate. I will try as you adivised but I con't think the fans were activeted my intensive CPU using. In most of the cases, the problems happened when the Mac was sleeping, when the minimum CPU were being used.

    "The Fans going at full is only because you have an application that is using a lot of cpu power and therefore causing the imac to heat up so it turns the fans on."
    That's only partly right. A hard-working process will make the fans run at high speed, of course.
    But, the OS is in touch with the firmware of the iMac, telling it how to run the fans, based upon information the OS X kernel is getting about the state of the hardware.
    If the firmware loses touch with the OS for some reason, and is not getting instructions on how to run the fan, it will default to running them at full blast, to be on the safe side (and this "full blast" fan mode is way louder than anything you'll generally experience during normal usage, I know from experience).
    So it may not be so simple as a hard-working cpu process kicking the fans on.

    Hi I have a 20" G5 imac it's about 18 months old and I am having the same problem, It freezes and the fan runs really loud. It's nothing to do with software as my I.T. guy has done a complete re-install. All of our admin people have imacs of differring ages and the flat panels are all OK but every one of the G5s has had a booting problem. Some fell into the recall for replacement logic boards but the one I have at home is the newest and doesn't. I'm waiting for my apple reseller to get back to me, but it looks like it's the logic board and as none of the serial numbers fall into the recall, I'm expecting a big bill. I'm really disappointed as I've been a professional apple user for over 15 years and have grown to expect a certain amount of honesty and integrity from them. Looking at all of the discussion boards and the amount of people complaining of the same problem the logic boards are defective and apple should be replacing these free of charge.

    Kensall,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    As in the other thread I wrote:
    Being from England, you may find the repair program under these pages:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/
    Check both of them as they refer to different models.
    If neither of yours is under the program, please start a new topic thread so someone can help you.

    First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you.
    iMac C2D 2.17/20 inch/iMac G5 1.8 1st gen/iMac G4 800 Mac OS 9 Mac OS X (10.4.8) EyeTV 200, Canon PS A530 , Epson P-R220, iSight, Airport Extreme, 5th Gen iPod

    I am having a very similar problem. My G5 imac has already had the logic board replaced from the leaking capacitor problem. 8 mos. later the power supply was replaced under the second recall program when it failed to start up.
    It had been working now for almost a year, when about 3 mos. ago I started to experience the sudden dimming effect - if the display was untouched the screen would dim about 30% similar to a laptop in energy save mode. I checked and none of these types of options were set in the pref panes. At the same time I would have the iMac go to sleep after a while from non-use, and then when I tried to wake it it would stir for a few seconds and then go right back to sleep. It took 2-3 attempts to wake it up.
    Then last week, as I tried to wake it, it just shut down instead completely. I had to hold the power button down to recycle it to get it to come back to life (3 times).
    Today was it - I found what I thought was a sleeping iMac, but it will not power up at all. I opened the back cover and the power supply is working, but I cannot get the board to energize, I reset the PMU, but the #2 LED won't even blink. It is completely dead.
    Basically every time I used this computer I held my breath that it would not work. After 2 recalls I still only get 9 mos. out of it? Apple is really starting to show it is like the "big" computer makers, the quality is going right down the tubes.
