IE 8 and compatibility with Officejet J6480 All-in-one

I have the above Officejet J6480, connected via USB, XP operating system and earlier this year after installing IE 8 I found that the printer was not compatible.  Therefore I went back to IE 7, and have been awaiting news from HP that the compatibility issue has been resolved, but I haven't heard anything.   It would seem that installing IE 8 would be a good move if it is compatible with the printer.
Questions:
Is the Officejet J6480 now compatible with IE 8 assuming I have updated my printer software from the HP site?
If not, what do I need to do in order to use IE 8?
Is there any reason not to go to IE 8?
Thanks for your help....

Hi - Does it print slowly from all applications or just certain ones?  In either case, you can try following the steps in this document.
In addition, try going into Control Panel, Printer, right click on the printer and choose Printer Properties.  Click on the Advanced Tab and select Print Direcly to the Printer.
    Hope that helps.

  • Communication Failure With HP Officejet J6480 All-In-One

I bought a new printer, an HP Officejet J6480 All-In-One, and set it up with my PC.
Then, I set it up with my mac. I get this error: "Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer. Turn the printer off, check your printer connections and check for printer errors, and turn the printer back on."
I recently bought an Epson printer but returned it cause it was too slow. That printer gave me a similar (maybe the same, I don't remember) error. I can scan and check ink levels but I can't print. I'm connected by USB by the way.
What's wrong? I downloaded the latest drivers and software yesterday. Why can't I print?

And on HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One.
I've got mine connected to the network on Ethernet - figured that would be less problematic than wifi - and my MacPro can see everything about the printer, just not print to it. This includes the C7280's built-in webserver which - like alot of SOHO routers - gives you a web-based interface to the printer's configuration and status. Everything on that page looks right-on, but no printing.
The printer's copy and fax functions work, and I can even scan images and save them across the network onto my machine, so the printer is already interoperating with the network to a high degree, just not printing.
Like alot of people, I bypassed the HP driver CD and downloaded a fresh software package yesterday from HP's site (200MB+, ***?), which is what I used to configure my system. As far as I could tell, there appear to be no firmware updates available for this printer. MacOS "Software Update" doesn't offer any printer driver updates - I'll try the posted link to Apple's site next.

Hello @shelfy , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're running into scan errors.  I would like to help!
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • My HP Officejet J6480 All-In-One has started printing multiple pages.

All of a sudden my officejet J6480 printer is printing multiple pages every time I print.  I've made sure it is saying only 1 copy, but it still continures printing the extra pages.

Disconnect the power cable and the usb cable from the computer. Restart both the printer and the computer. Clear the print que. Fan all the pages in the printer. Power on the printer connect the usb cable and try printing again. Happy Printing

  • Wireless and the HP Officejet J4580 All-in-One

I'd like to know if it's possible to connect an HP Officejet J4580 to a wireless network, and if so, how to go about it.
The documentation provided with my All-in-One indicates it's possible, but refers to a "Wireless Connection Guide", which was not included with my product. The only references I can find to this particular model and wireless connections on the HP website seem to indicate it can only be connected wirelessly to a Mac.
I'm running Windows Vista (32-bit) on an HP Pavilion laptop, with a Linksys WRT54G router. There is one other computer connected to the wireless network (a Gateway PC running Vista 64-bit, if that's relevant).
I watched the video in the stickied thread above, regarding how to connect an All-in-One to a network in Windows XP, but 1) I wasn't given the wireless option during installation (bummer), 2) I'm not really excited about the prospect of installing ALL their fluff software to get this thing working, and 3) I'm not running XP (also kind of a bummer, but whaddyagonnado).
I'd also like to mention that my product didn't come with the USB cable necessary to connect it to my computer. The simple set-up directions imply that this cord was only shipped with the J4680 model, along with the aforementioned "Wireless Connection Guide".
Is this true? Why on earth would HP neglect to include necessary hardware AND neglect to supply an alternative method? That just strikes me as bad customer service.
Any assistance or commiseration you can offer will be appreciated! Thanks for your time!

  • Wireless setup problem for HP Officejet J6480 All - in - One printer

I can not get my printer setup wirelessly.  When I send a print job to it, the message comes back, printer offline.
I can hook up the USB cable and it prints fine.  I installed the software on my IMac as instructed.  I used the HP Printer manager.  My IMac is setup with the airport and I have a wireless router.
Through the setup button on the printer I printed off the "wireless network test report" and  the "HP network configuration" page.  They show no errors.
    Can anyone help me out?
I need to be able to wirelessly print from my IMac, a Gateway desktop, a Dell laptop and a Toshiba laptop.

connecting Wireless to HP j6480 printer
Problem is when I go to menu and press wireless network printer option. It’s just press menu then use the arrow keys on each side of the OK button. Then press down to Wireless Network Wizard. Press the OK button. I think the Wireless Network Wizard is the third option down when you are in the Wizard. It will then ask you for the wep for your router. I have the Verizon Jet pack from Verizon. But I assume you could use any router. My router wep was all numbers for example 99000627xxxxx all numbers. I tried and tried and kept putting in the wep but it kept coming back wrong wep code. What I did not watch was the numbers I was putting in were wrong. For example when I was putting in 990000627XXXXX that was not being put in. What was being put in was something like ypt$&^ etc. I did not know when you were putting in the numbers you had to keep pushing on the 9 key until a nine came up, then it would go to the next number you had to put in. You had to do the same for the second, third, fourth and etc until you entered all of the code. Then the wireless router connected. Why does someone not tell you that.

  • Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer prints document leaves "error sent to printer" message in que.

I have an officejet 6480 connected wirelessly that I'm printing to from an eithernet connected computer running Windows 8. When I print a document from various programs (notepad, adobe, outrlook, etc.) the document prints OK, but I'm left with a message in the que under status that says "error - sent to printer". 8/2 is listed under pagesand I'm printing a two page document. I've run HPSSdr and it says errors were found and it clears the que, but the next time I print I have the same problem. The printer is connected to an Actiontec PK5000 wireless/eithernet DSL modem/router. It is a securred router with a WEP password. When I do a test print from the HP software it clears OK, but it leaves the other message in the que. I also ran SFC /scannow, which didn't find any problems.

The problem seems to have rectified itself. I did a system restore to before the last required updates and still had the problem. I reinstalled the updates that were removed and the problem seems to have gone away. I had to turn off and back on the printers wifi connection because I was getting a printer unavailable message. After all that it seems to be working now.

  • Officejet J6480 All-In-One Printer

I just bought a new Dell tower with Windows 8.1.  When I was installing the printer's software, it told me that I needed new software for a 64 bit computer, which I found online.  Everything seemd fine for the type of documents I first printed.  However, when I attempted to print a document created with Microsoft Works, I would get an error message telling me to clear a paper jam, even though the printer would kick out a blank sheet of paper.
I would always check to make sure there wasn't a jammed piece of paper, even though I knew there wasn't one.  Three times I unplugged both the power and USB cords, and still it would not print.  I finally created a new document from a blank letterhead page, then copied and pasted the content of the first document.  That new document printed.  However, this afternoon, when I attempted to print another Works document, I got the same paper jam message, even though it kicks out a full sheet of paper.  I tried my same fix, creating a new document, but this time, I got the error message.
This afternoon, I downloaded HP's Install Wizard and Print And Scan Doctor.  Both told me nothing was wrong.  I then uninstalled and reintalled the printer's software.  Again, I get the same paper jam error message, though the paper does not jam.
I am able to print documents created with Quatro pro though, with no problems.  Thinking the problem has to be with Works, yesterday, I uninstalled and reinstalled that program, which did no good.  A thought did occur to me right now, I use Works 9, an outdated program (I know, I'm probably the only one still using Works and Quatro pro).  Could this be the problem?

Hey there @GnirpsNevets , welcome back to the community
Yes, using Microsoft Works could very well be the issue.  You have tried all of the troubleshooting for the printer that I would have suggested to you in hopes to have it working for your however, it's discontinued and support on it seems scarce.
Check out this alternative from Paul_Tikkanen to see if that helps:

  • Officejet J6480 All-in-one wireless setup issues

I recently changed my wifi router and I can't get the printer connected to my laptop over wifi.
Here is the error I get:
The network subnet mask 0.0.0.0 of the printer does not match your router. Reconfigure the setting on your printer to match.
Your computer is unable to communicate with your printer at 160.70.201.185. This may be caused by firewall software. If you are using firewall software, verify that UDP port 427 is unblocked for both inbound and outbound traffic.
Your PC can not communicate with your printer at address 160.70.201.185. Check all cable connections. Check that the printer, PC and router are powered on and connected to the network.
    Here is more info:
My laptop can connect to the network(internet)
My printer is connected to the router
I uninstalled and re-installed the correct HP software\drivers
the wireless network test report says there are no problems.
I ran the diagnostic tool with no help
I cannot connect to the printer via a browser (no errors, just can't find the device)
I disabled all firewalls (Norton, WIndows and wifi router)
Here are some configuration settings that are printed out:
    Network Status: ready
    URL: http://192.168.1.255
    Wireless status: connected
    IP address: 192.168.1.255
Subnet mask: 255.255.240.0 (same as my wifi router)
    Primary and Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
So what else can I do. Also from the error message, why is the subnet say 0.0.0.0 and what is the 160.70.201.785 IP address? By the way, I also can't connect to this IP Address either.
Not sure what else I can do...

OK, did you try this diagnostic?: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03286146&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    What did it say?
Belkins are not exactly standard.  Did you restart the router by pulling its power cable momentarily?  If you have antivirus software, disable its firewall.

I am running windows vista and I am able to print doc. from  my files and off the web,  but...I can not print my pictures that I have filed but was able to a week ago.  Does anyone have any suggestions? I have checked all the off line/on line, que, plugs and have done a test page.  All checks out ok except I am unable to print my pictures.

Took awhile to find it, but the solution is at Add the Duplex Unit.  Seems obvious now that I know.
On the Windows taskbar, Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Devices and printers .
Right-click the printer icon ( ) for your product, click Printer Properties , and then click the product. The Printer Properties window opens.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
If necessary, click the plus sign (+ ) next to Installable Options to expand the list.
Click Duplex Unit , and then click Installed .
Click Apply , and then click OK .
