  • My new ipod is extremely slow, but i have full strength wifi. Works fast at others homes.

My new ipod touch 4g is extremly slow in my house, but i have full strength wifi. Works fast at others homes. When i try to connect to the internet it gives me a server error. All other ipods and laptops work fine in the home. Does anybody else have this issue?

Have you tried powering off and then back on your router?
    You can try:
    - Reseting the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network settings.

My appletv is always freezing and buffering.   My wifi works fast on everything so it not that

Other devices working doesn't rule out a network issue
What is your current connection via speedtest.net
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try Ethernet

  • How to Work Faster in AE, Shake, etc.

    Hi,
In perusing the market for jobs in rotoscoping, or other digital artist positions related to film, it seems that speed is paramount. If you can't work fast enough, you're fired!
What's the best way, outside of practice (which is obvious) to work the fastest?
Are there specific methods for doing things faster, or, aside from learning all the keyboard shortcuts, is practice really the main way to speed up your work?
If post production houses expect shots to be turned around in a day tops, meaning editing hundreds of frames quickly, that seems a bit daunting without superhuman speed and exceptional accuracy.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

I guess it's tough for someone straight out of art school to get in somewhere and get the necessary experience to even have the opportunity to perform quickly enough for a paid position.
That's the understatement of the year. IMHO, you don't get "fast" until you get "good"...and you don't get "good" without experience. There's nothing worse than someone that can promise work to be done quickly / cheaply...and it's sub-par. When I got out of Film School, I wanted to be an Editor / Compositor and work on Special FX. My demo was laughable compared to what was out there in my chosen field so I had to take a job with a cap company converting client's logo / image files (AI / EPS files) to stitch patterns that could be fed into a giant sewing machine that sews 50 hats at a time. I didn't learn sh!t about my chosen field...but I did learn about clients and as I got better at it...I got FASTER and started to develop my own proficient way of working that made me even faster.
Does most everyone start out as an intern and build their skills that way?
In my market (Florida), it's not as specialized as LA / NY. Here, the more you know the better your chances of landing a steady gig. Internships are OK if you can afford to work for free. I could not so I had to take gigs that were outside my target so I could take care of my family. That made me even more determined to make it so I started doing personal projects on my own time, posted up a website and flooded my market with demos & resumes - following up frequently with all of them via email. I got my first full time After Effects / Avid gig with an Ad Agency almost 9 years ago and the rest is history.
Persistence pays off. It's a cliché, but it's so true. To this day I keep an updated demo / resume / website & business card at all times. Nothing is certain in this business and you never know when the next big gig will come along (probably when you least expect it) :)

Additionally, when you get a new job with requirements that cause you to research the best techniques, where do you go to find the answers? I assume Google or various forum searches for pointers is a first option before you ("ahem") bother your professional peers, but I guess I'm looking for more specific and yet generalized info. I want to properly prepare before persuing a paid position or even an internship in a post-production parlor. (Paahh!)
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Have you considered a Wacom tablet and pen?
Much more comfortable than the mouse and definitely faster.

  • Would installing Cheetah or Raptor drives make inDesign data merge work faster?

Would installing Cheetah or Raptor drives make inDesign data merge work faster?

I think SSDs might turn out to be slower. There are some other posts about major slowdowns when the OS and user profile are on SSDs.
As a 32 bit program, ID can't adress all that extra RAM, so you won't affect the amount of swapping required. I don't really know how efficient an SSD is for constant read and write operations, but my undertanding is they work great for fast loading of things that don't change, but not so much for files that rewrite constantly.

  • Making brochure with lots of 'large' photos, how can I get InDesign to work faster?

I am trying to create a brochure using lots of photos some of which are quite large 12mb+ and In Design is being really sluggish.  Is there anything I can do to help InDesign work faster?
    Many thanks

You see in the link panel, if the file is embedded or you see the path were the image is saved.
On your OS, I think it is Win, you go to a file with the suffix you use, with the right mouse click select in the context menu, to open with other, don't select Photoshop directly, selct with an application you will select manually and choose an option which tells you always to open this type with that program (PSD, TIFF, JPG and PDP with Photoshop and AI and EPS with Illustrator, but don't use EPS anymore, and use the suffix PDP if you work with Photoshop PDFs to get Photoshop instead of Acrobat with PDF to open the apropriate program.)

  • Wi-fi very slow on iPhone but works fast on iPad and MacBook.

After working very well and fast for a long time, all of a sudden the wi-fi is extremely sluggish (downloading a new app or using Netflix, etc.) It works fast on my MacBook Pro and iPad. What could be causing this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Force the Compile Worker to Work Faster

The process of creating the FPGA bit files takes a long time even with a simple FPGA design.  I monitor the system resources when the  Compile Worker creates the bit file. Only a few percentage of the CPU is being used. Is there a way to force the Compile Woker works faster because there is system resources available?
My system is dual Xeon 6 Physical Core with 16Gb RAM, running LabVIEW 2011 version 90 days come with the Evaluation Rio single board.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The FPGA code compilation is performed not by the LabVIEW compiler but a compiler from Xilinx, specific to their FPGA chipsets.
The problem you see is the Xilinx compiler is single thread, and therefore will only use one core, and also can be seen at times to 'dawdle'. There's nothing you can do to push the compiler to work harder by encouraging the use of other resources. If you cores are 3.2GHz each, then compiling on your dual Xeon 6 will be no faster than on a single-core 3.2GHz CPU.
What you need for minimizing your compile times is the fastest core you can get!

  • Wow - everything works faster

After last update, that one with firefox 3.5 and all other stuff - everything works faster now in X.
Don't know why, but everything seems more responsive.
I use ATI if that matters

  • ?Best OS X version for Power Mac Cube G4-I want to reformat and start again in the hope it will work faster.

Hi. I want to reformat and start again in the hope my G4 PowerMac Cube will work faster. So I'd like to know what the best version of Mac OS X is for the G4. Can anyone advise?  Many thanks.

Hi, the best for speed is the lowest OSX it'll run & still do what you need.
10.1.5 would run in 96MB of RAM, 10.2.x took twice as much, 10.3.x twice again, 10.4.x twice again, 10.5.x thrice again & better Video caards.
And those are minimums, twice that being fairly useful, 4 times that being pretty good.
I suspect 10.4.11 is going to be your "Sweet Spot", I wouldn't run 10.4 on PPC Macs with less than 1.5 GB of RAM, not on IntelMacs with less than 3-4GB of RAM.
OSX is very dependent on it's spped & usability by the speed & amount of free space on the HD.
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: eMac

How do I get my mac mini to work faster?  I am getting tired of watching a tiny multicolored spinning ball!  Help!!

Which model of mini is it?  You are running 10.4.4, so it is an older machine - is it an a powerPC G4 or an early intel model?
How much RAM do you have?  The early mini's I think only shipped with 512Mb RAM, although the 2006 first gen. intel could take up to 2Gb.  If you look at your memory use you can get a sense of how much disc swapping is going on (look at page outs).  If your machine is disk thrashing a lot because of limited memory, then adding more memory can improve performance (otherwise it is pointless adding RAM to a system that is not limited by available RAM).
Other than that you are pretty limited in what you can do - the cpu is what it is, as is the disk, motherboard and firmware.  If your machine is old enough that it shipped with 10.4, then it is upwards of 7 years old, so really, the only way to gain substantial performance imporvements when using up-to-date software is to get a newer machine.
