IE does not found a class

Question

Hi to everybody.
I'm trying to start an applet through IE. The java-codes are compiled in java 1.2, and the code uses the javax library in jre directory.
With a previous help I could start the applet in html document with
the appletviewer. But when I open the html file with the IE I see the
following message:
exception java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.comm.CommPortIdentifier
The version of the IE that I'm using is IE: 5
version: 5.00.2614.3500
The version of the System Operative: windows 98 [versi�n 4.10.2222]
And the path and the classpath in the autoexec file is:
PATH c:\jdk1.2.2\bin;C:\jdk1.2.2\jre\lib;%PATH%
set CLASSPATH C:\jdk1.2.2\lib;C:\jdk1.2.2\lib\javax\comm;%CLASSPATH%
Anybody can help me?

Try
C:\jdk1.2.2\lib\Instead of
C:\jdk1.2.2\lib\javax\commIn your classpath.
You package hierarchy is transformed in directory structure. That is
import javax.comm.Anywill search for a file "Any" in XXX/javax/comm, where XXX is a classpath entry (whichever fits in).
However, if your purpose is to create an applet that can be seen from the web, you cannot rely on the client's classpath. You'll have to package all your classes in a single package.
