IE it tries to make itself default browser instead of Firefox

If a program starts IE it makes itself default browser. McAfee warns me and offers to change it back. Recent occurrence: I attempted to purchase Serif PagePlus updated version this started IE which then made itself default.

Click the Firefox button, then Options | Options | Advanced.
In the General tab, checkmark "''Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup''" located in the System Defaults menu. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u#w_general-tab General Tab | System Defaults]

  • Msn has become our default browser instead of firefox when we ask for Firefox

    We have not designated MSN as our default browser and it keeps coming up as default. We find it irritating since it just makes more steps.

    http://msn.com might be your home page it is not a browser. Microsoft's browser is Internet Explorer. If you start in Firefox you stay in Firefox.
    Having msn.com as your home page, if that is the problem, still doesn't really explain how that makes more steps for you. So we have to assume what you want to do, or expect.
    Type '''about:home''' into the location bar, and if that is what you want for a home page then
    # Tools ("Alt + T") > Options > General
    # When Firefox starts: Show my home Page
    # Click on "Restore to default"

  • How do i ake the orignal Firefox my default browser instead of Firefox 4.0 Beta 1?

    I am on the Beta version of Firefox 4.0 and i want to go to the regular one but i can not,when i click the original one on my desktop it takes me to the Firefox 4.0 one,what do i do?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I clicked the one i wanted to go on

    Did you keep the original Firefox 3.6.6 version by doing a custom installation of the 4.0b1 version?
    If you only have a Firefox 4.0b1 shortcut on your desktop and not a Firefox 3.6.6 shortcut then you need to check that.
    If you no longer have the Firefox 3.6.x version then do a custom install of that version and make that version the default browser.
    See [[Custom installation of Firefox on Windows]]
    Download 3.6.x here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

  • How do I make Firefox my default browser (instead of e.g. Internet Explorer)?

    When loading software that requires connection to the internet, they try to do so via Internet Explorer, which is not working. I want my default browser to be Firefox and change whatever settings are necessary to accomplish this.

    OCCASIONALLY I can hear my laptop fan whirring excessively when using the web. If it happened too much, I've quit the browser and the laptop soon cools off. This started when using Safari, and was why I thought I'd try Firefox for a while. Apart from the default browser issue, I've found Firefox easier to use and more reliable. I can't say for sure that this 'overheat' issue has never happened with Firefox since I installed it.

  • How to disable updates and hide set as default browser option in firefox 31.0 for many users,like changing the setttings in any file

    Hi,
    I am trying to disable updates, set as default browser option and import settings from other browers permanently for many users for firefox 31.0.
    can you please help me with that. I know settings are going to prefs.js file in user profile. How can make this permanent for many users.

    Hi gaurav3012,
    Permanent change would be locking preferences: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
    However importing many users profiles to different computers may require a new profile for each user.
    Currently there is an option to import bookmarks from other browsers, but not preferences.
    Update preferences can be read about here: [[Configuration Options for Updates]]
    Firefox ESR is also another version of Firefox that is meant for Enterprise environments [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/] that mostly has their support on their mailing list.

  • How do I set up a different default browser other than firefox?

    I would like my juno email page to come up everytime I open a new page but I can't seem to figure out how to change my default browser. Right now anytime I open a new tab the search engine is blank and it shows avg search engine. No matter what I put in the search engine after it goes to that page the search engine goes blank again. Because it keeps going blank it also keeps bringing you back up to it. So you might click on something and start writing and next thing you know you're writing in the browser again all because it disapears. It's very annoying. I want to get it off the avg search engine so I stop having these problems. I use to always have it open to my email start page so I would like to do that again or anything else if it will stop going to avg and it will keep what I ask for in the browser.

    Normally, Firefox will fill the new tab page with 9 thumbnails for your frequently visited sites. You can change that to the Juno URL if you like. Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page ''you may want to copy this from another tab first for easier pasting''
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    * If Firefox ''refuses to save the change'', check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, for something named Search Protect and get rid of it.
    * If Firefox ''ignores the change'', one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:<br><br>3-bar menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    IMPORTANT: Your More System Details shows a user.js file in your profile. Firefox will use this file at startup to override your previous session settings. This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Work uses Firefox as default browser, I use Firefox as my default browser at home. When I get home my home page has been reset to the work homepage. What gives?

    Recently, my office has integrated a new mail server to reduce traffic on the public website. The administrator assigned the new mail server as the home page. Our default browser is Firefox.
    I also use Firefox at home. When I open my browser at home the google page comes up, then when I select the "home" icon it redirects me to the office mail server.
    I can change my home page on my browser to my actual home page. It will remain on my "actual" home page during all sessions until I open the browser at work. Once I do that and go home it switches to the work "home page". Again, I can physically change it on my home browser and have it work all the time I am at home, but if I work and open the browser it changes my home "home".

    Try:
    * [[Removing the Search Helper Extension and Bing Bar]]
    You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>bing</i> via the Filter at the top of that page.<br />
    You can reset all <i>bing</i> related prefs via the right-click context menu to their default values.
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • Surface Pro 2 tries to use word in browser instead of client in SharePoint 2010 library

    Hi -
    A user came to me with a new surface pro 2 with IE 11 and Office 2013 and sadly found that document libraries would try to default open in the browser.  I do not have the word app completely configured so it is unavailable. I have a Windows 8 laptop
    with IE 11 working just fine, so I am having trouble pinpointing the issue on his device.
    I have checked the settings at the library level, the site collection level, as well as the farm level to assure that all areas are configured to open in client app by default.
    Has anyone ran into this?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

    As I mentioned.  You add the second account by adding SharePoint Online as a Connected Service on the File menu in Word.  You also need to make sure that they have updated the copy of Office on the Surface from the Home and Student version.

  • How do I keep Comcast from transferring me to their website browser instead of Firefox?

  • How do you make Firefox the default browser when the normal way doesnt work?

    Im trying completely from chrome after a friend showed my how much firefox has got its act together. However i cant for the life of me set it as the default browser. I have tried the "make firefox the default browser" button in firefox, which simply opens the windows default programs panel. Whenever i try to use the panel it simply sets the http protocol to nightly which isnt even installed!( http://puu.sh/2vJHM ) I think a possible fix would be to manually change the registry, but i wouldnt know where to start.

    Did you check the box on ''Options > Advanced > General >[X] "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"?
    Have you restarted Firefox and if so, or when you do so, what does that section on the advanced Firefox options show?
    Have you tried restarting your system after setting the default browser using the second suggestion and, after restart, check the setting per the second suggestion to see if that setting is holding?
    Updating your Plugins would have no affect on the default browser question. It was something that you needed to do to avoid security issues online by using an out of date version of Java. Java is not involved in the default browser issue. That is why I separated it from the first part of the reply with a line and began with the word "Other".
