IE QuickTime 7.0.4 Error

When I view web pages (myspace for example) and other users have videos or songs using QuickTime, all I see is a big blue Q with a question mark in the middle. I have gone into the Internet Explorer options and done everything I have already read about in this forum, nothing has worked. Also, when I go to the Apple site to re-download QuickTime, I de-select the options of being kept up to date by Apple and click the download button. It takes me to another page that says Congratulations...but my download never begins, never. I have tried accessing the page thru third party sites and finally had to enter in the .exe file name in order to start the download. So I downloaded QuickTime and the DirectX or ActiveX controller as this site says, I still have the big blue Q on my pages when I try to view anything supported by QuickTime in web pages. This happens in both Internet Explorer AND Mozilla Firefox. Please advise.

Too late, I read your first reply and purchased the MPEG-2 addin. I was very happy to see the files playing on Quicktime. I only wish you warned me of the limitations. Because I created my video files using Pinnacle Studio software in MPEG-2 for DVD format. Which means they where MPEG-2 Muxed. Not knowing about all this interlived BS I exported them to Mv4 files for the IPOD, and I got video but no audio. That is when I found the Q&A that talked about this. I am now out $50+ from Apple with no way to get a refund. I am very, very disappointed. Now it's back to square one where I have to experment converting my MPEG-2 files back to AVI so I can export with audio. As for Apple getting any more business from this customer, forget it. I now have to contact everyone I have spoken to in the last few days including my boss to stop them from buying that stupid addin. All I wanted to do was watch my home videos on my IPOD. I did not want to rip anything copyrighted! Do I hear class action against Apple. Only time and enough ripped off, upset customers like me will tell

  • ITunes/Quicktime 7.3 upgrade error - can't uninstall previous version..?

While trying to install the new version of iTunes and Quicktime, I get an error while installing:
I checked the folder, and the iTunes.msi file is definitely there.
When I quit the installer, it said to try the Tools > Download Only option in the apple update software. I did it, and opened the iTunes.msi file, and got the same error.
I also tried uninstalling iTunes from Add/Remove Programs, but the same box in the picture above pops up.
    Any suggestions?

With those ones try the following procedure:
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).  I have removed both itunes and quicktime from my computer and re-installed them and I still get the same message.  What do I do to get itunes to work?

That one is often a compatibility mode problem. Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software

Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.

    download iTunes again from Apple.

If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.

  • Itunes and Quicktime won't start, error

my itunes/Quicktime suddenly failed to open. I get a message saying iTunes needs to close. This happened after it would not close by itself one time. I've tried to remove programs from my pc then readd them but the same error keeps happening. Can anyone help me?

    hi Double_Duce!
Message: Quicktime failed to initialize: error #63441
"Please make sure Quicktime is properly installed in this computer."
After clicking OK... the IntallDriver Module shutdown...
    Then Quicktime Error: 1606 - "Could not access network location QTComponents/. {retry} / {cancel}
hmmmm. it's actually a bit unusual (in my experience) to see both of those error messages together like that. (the 1603 at the end of the chain is just sort of a "by-blow" of the previous problems, and if we fix those the 1603 should go away of its own accord.)
let's first try doing something that has worked in the past with both of those initial error messages.
first, download and install a copy of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility (we will be using it later on):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
then we'll try to uninstall any existing QT on your PC. use the QT portion of the complete uninstall instructions given here:
Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows
... if you run into trouble on the uninstall, use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove any existing QuickTime installation registry entries, and then use the uninstall instructions as a guide to a manual QT uninstall.
but even if you don't run into trouble, run the utility anyway afterwards just to make sure we've cleaned out any leftover registry entries.
once the QT has been scraped out, we'll try the careful standalone QT 7.0.3 install again.
does it go through okay this time? or do you get another error message?
    love, b

  • How do I fix error code 401 - "unauthorized" I am taking an online class and the videos worked before, and now whenever I launch QuickTime, I get that error code.

I recently began taking an online class. We are required to watch multiple videos. I was able to watch the QuickTime videos before, but now whenever I launch the videos in QuickTime I get the Error code 401. My teacher does not know whats wrong, because I do have authorization to watch the videos, I am just not sure how to go about it.

You may try updating the same as a standalone download.

  • After iTunes 7.6 update:  QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096

"QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096).
QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes."
After upgrading to iTunes 7.6 this morning, I get this error when trying to run iTunes or Quicktime. I was using the Apple Updater. I got no errors when running the installer.
I downloaded the 7.6 setup file and attempted to repair the install. I still receive the same error.
There is an article indicating that turning off Compatibility mode would resolve this issue, but Compatibility mode is not turned on for iTues or QuickTime.
The same issue is discussed in the Quicktime forum, here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6400305
I am running on Windows 2003.
Note I had iTunes open earlier today, and it was working fine. It was only when I upgraded to 7.6 (I think I was at 7.4 before. It was definetly 7.something).

Thanks for this discussion and I hope Apple fixes this soon. It took me forever but installing QT 7.2 and installing the less recent itunes update from filehippo finally resolved it for me. Of course the reason it took me forever was that every time I reinstalled itunes, I was using the default setting that was updating QT & Apple also (in hindsight it sounds really dumb, but no one had mentioned that).
This is the first itunes update that has ever gone wrong for me - I've used itunes for 5 yrs (my 1st ipod was a 2nd gen touch wheel). I wonder if some MS developers went to work at Apple to exact revenge...?

  • Quicktime failed to initialize error -2096 using itunes 8, WinServer2003

Quicktime failed to initialize error -2096
I am getting this when trying to run Itunes 8 on windows 2003 standard
When i click on "QTInfo.exe" it says "Not Installed"
I tried re-installing a few times, all the regular stuff. When I searched help, all I see is a bunch of ninny suggestions like check if it is running in compatibility mode.
    Itunes used to work with:
    Itunes v7.7 + v7.3.1 Quicktime
(I did NOT use the standard itunes 7.7 installer, since it trys to install Quicktime 7.5)
Basically I'm looking for Apple or someone to tell me what are the files causing the problem so I can bypass it.
This is highly aggravating because we have 2 iphones now that are not able to sync because I updated them to v2.1 which doesnt work with v7.7 of itunes.
I do not actually use quicktime, so if there is a way to trick itunes 8 into thinking the latest quicktime is installed, that would be ok with me too.

I am going to try these solutions to see if they help. I need to backup my computer before doing so though, I dont want to lose everything.

  • Getting the message- Quicktime failed to initialize- (error- 2096).....

I can't get into iTunes ever since this 7.6 version came out. I've downloaded it 8 or 9 times, and I have even tried downloading Quicktime separately, but I get the same message every time!! Help me! The full message is:
Quicktime failed to initialize (error- 2096)
Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes.
    So annoying!!!

QuickTime failed to initialize-Error#-2096 QuickTime is required to run itunes.
Let's try to get one set of possibilities off the table.
Head into the Compatibility tab of the Properties for your iTunes.exe as per the following document:
iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode
... however, when you're in there, make sure that none of the boxes are checked (not just the compatibility mode box).
If iTunes still isn't launching, head into the Compatibility tab of the Properties of your QuickTimePlayer.exe, as per the following document:
Error -2096 message when opening QuickTime for Windows in Compatibility Mode
... again, make sure that none of the boxes in there are checked (not just the compatibility mode box).
    Any help with your 2096?

  • QuickTime failed to initialize error # -2093

WARNING: problems with latest iTunes update on WinXP!!
Something went wrong with the latest iTunes update and I started seeing errors indicating that some files were missing and that I needed to reinstall iTunes. I removed both iTunes and QuickTime (through ad/remove programs), then installed the latest QuickTIme and had no errors on the installation.
However, I now get the message above when launching QuickTime.
Apple support: what else can I try?

I found some help on the iTunes for Windows discussion.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1222907&tstart=30
Apparently the problem is caused by the QuickTime 7.3 installation that is bundled with iTunes 7.5. I followed the advice of the person who suggested installing the older versions, which i downloaded from oldapps.com. I have no idea who is hosting these older versions or if they are safe...
However, I removed all the Apple stuff including the software updater, etc and installed QuickTime 7.2. It worked fine for me so then I downloaded the most recent (OLDER) version of iTunes (7.4.2) and it is also working for me.

  • QuickTime Failed to initialize, Error

XP Pro system with SP2  - have downloaded and installed QuickTime (latest ver) several times, and keep getting the same error:  I have run in safe mode and still get the same problem.
"QuickTime Failed to initalize, Error # -2096"
I can not find this in any search and really need help with it.  Please advise!

Doublechecking before proceeding, Les. Are you getting your 2096 when launching the QuickTime Player or when launching iTunes? (Either is possible, and there's slightly different treatments for each.)

  • Quicktime Failed To Initialize (Error 2096) Quicktime unavailable!?!

I Have An Old 4th generation 40 gig ipod and a dell e521 pc. I have only recently had internet access, before I typed everything by hand onto my itunes program on my computer. I Want to buy a new ipod classic, but I'm Not sure if it would have been compatible with my outdated itunes program. So I Tried to download the newest verision of itunes and I Thought it was sucessfull, but after I Restarted my computer and attempted to open the newly downloaded itunes, I keep getting this error message that reads Quicktime Unavailable: Quicktime failed to initialize (error 2096)!?! i thought quicktime and itunes were being downloaded together. what am I Doing wrong? Thaks.

I had opened the QuickTime FOLDER Properties and the iTunes FOLDER Properties, which is why I did not see a Compatability tab. When I went into the folders, then into the files, I found that QuickTime was not set to Compatability Mode, but iTunes was set to run compatable with Windows 95. I unchecked the box. It appears that iTunes will now launch on my computer.
Thanks very much. You have brought some joy to my day.
