IE Spry 2.0 Menu centering/ CSS vs Table/ em vs pix questions

I realize this question may relate to other issues than strictly the Spry Widget Menu Bar. As some background, I am in the process of building a site to get rid of a bit of my record/cd collection. I am planning on using PayPal websites payments standard and a Paypal-shopping cart. While I realize this may be time consuming (especially making buttons for every item), I really don’t want to pay a monthly fee for a shopping cart or spend a lot of time to figure out how to integrate my design with some free third party software cart such as Zen cart. (Of course if someone has some ideas, I would be glad to hear them). But the main issue I needed some help with related to centering my Spry Menu Bar and questions about using tables as part of my layout.

I have used Spry Menu Bar 2.0 widget for the main/bottom menu that goes to the various categories of records/cds. I used pixels for font size and did a fixed size layout for the widget. I think I have this working ok. However, I noticed it really isn’t centered when I view the page on IE 8 (more to the left).
Any thoughts on how to best fix this issue?
USING TABLES FOR MAIN CONTENT?
For the listings of each item, it seemed that it would be the easiest to use tables for my content. I have a 3 column table with the left column for the picture of the cd cover, the right for the paypal button, price, and other info (in a nested table), and the middle (in a nested table) for info about each item with Title, Catalog #, condition info at the top of the table. My thinking was that this would allow me to add items easy by just copying and pasting the middle table to new rows… I could have 10 to 100 items on a particular page (or who knows maybe more). I would also be copying these rows or tables and adding them to other pages where the item fit in multiple categories.
I couldn’t find anything on the web that made it look easy to do what I want to do with CSS rather than with HTML tables and have it look consistent across browsers. Of course, I did my first websites with tables, so I am used to them but also recognize that folks try not to use them these days. I am using pixels for my font size as opposed to em (no experience using em). My questions are:
Are my assumptions correct that it is ok to use a table layout for this portion of the page? If yes, any suggestions on controlling how it looks (I,e, should I not be using pixels for my font size?)?,
Is there an easy way in CSS to do the same thing and ensure consistency?
These questions above are really the most important. I don’t want to start adding all these items to find that there was a better, easier way to do this.
While I am not necessarily designing for mobile browsers, is there something easy to do to make it look consistent on mobile browsers? I notice the page on my iphone the text is taller than the album cover. I assume that it I set the row to a fixed height, it still would show the text the same on the browser and break up the table possibly.

Spry 2.0 menu not showing in IE8
I have a webpage with a horizontal and vertical Spry 2.0 menu on the page. Both menus work correctly in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and IE9, but the vertical menu does not show at all in IE8. In addition in IE8 the browser scroll bar disappears when the vertical menu is added. The test page is http://www.njslom.org/001banner5.html
I am using CS5 and the Spry 2.0 Widget in an html template.
Any help at all would be appreciated.

DW CS4 Horizontal Spry drop down menu not displaying correctly in Internet Explorer 8
Hi,
I have created a horizontal Spry drop down menu in Dreamweaver CS4 with my own background images. I have done various modifications to the CSS script to accommodate the style and feel needed; including making the main buttons' height twice the size of the sub menu buttons and some alignments. It seems to work different depending which browser is used.
It works well in Google Chrome.
It works well in Firefox with the exception that if any of the buttons are clicked, thereafter a thin black line is diplayed horizontally across center of the top main buttons when the mouse rolls over them. I would like to correct this but is not nearly as bad as the problem I'm having in Internet Explorer 8.
Here is my biggest concern and I would greatly appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this matter.
Once opened in Internet Explorer 8 the main navigation buttons appear as they should. IE8 prompts me the following: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options..". Once I allow IE8 to run scripts or ActiveX controls, the background image disappears and only shows on any menu or submenu button when the mouse rolls over that particular button. Can someone please help.

I was troubleshooting For the next 8 hours after my post here and eventually I got it right, I uploaded the files to the test server and at the time did not have the chance to post the solution here. This is why, as you saw, it is working correctly now. Both the CSS and HTML files needed modifications. While working on the code I had to run IE8, Chrome and Firefox simultaneously and refresh all three after every change in the code because what would fix the problem in one would cause a problem for the other.
In addition to the problems listed in my original post, there were also other graphical issues in IE8, such as; the main menu buttons without sub-menus would only display at half their size vertically. The border around the buttons would not display despite that the background images were rendered in Photoshop as flattened JPEGs with boarders as part of the background image. Being so, I removed all borders from the CSS script.
By the way.. the IE8 security measure did pop up while working from the server.
Anyhow for those of you who are experiencing similar problems you can take a look at the working code bellow and compare it to the initial code. I've included detail comments on every line I have changed, modified or added.
Good luck.. as I know it can become a complicated task when creating custom Spry menus.

How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?
I have cs4. I gave up on using MS sql as a datasource. I finally got a php successfull connection in my PHP web page.
I would like a nice video tutorial for creating a dynamic menu.
I guess i can style it by attaching a css file to the page. Are their any already designed css files out there in some online area?
i am not a good designer. so i would like to simply have a collection of menu_style.css files and choose what looks good.
But first i need to build the spry menu from the mysql database.
Any help is apprechiated.
My first choice was to maintain the data in an MS sql server file. If i could directly attach to an ms sql datasource then that would be the best option.
I dont think i want to have to re-generate an XML datasource each time i add or modify the menu. I would like to maintain the MS Sql or mySql file instead.
If i could generate an XML datasource from the MS Sql database then I may even prefere that, but i have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do that and not had any success. So i prefere working in MS sql but would settle for mySql if i had to.

Double horizontal spry drop down menu bar problems

I'm new to the spry tools and I need a little help. This is what I'm trying to accomplish in Dreamweaver CS4:
I need 2 horizontal spry menu bars for navigation. I have created a div for each spry tool, 1 div placed above the other and they cross the entire width of the page. I have created the spry menu bars. Everything seems to be working correctly in both menu bars, That is until you open the IE browser, all other browsers tested fine. The problem is that when you hover over the bottom menu bar in IE, the drop down menu does not drop all the way down. The first submenu of the drop down menu covers the main menu bar. I have tried to change the css for the spry menu bar at the ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE to show the display: as inline and also tried block and niether had any effect. Someone please help. Thanks.

Spry drop down menu not opening on a visitor's computer
I created a site with a spry menu and I have tested it on the current versions of Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera, Safari and put it through IE Tester. It works perfectly in all these browsers. But there have been two visitor's to the site that have said they cannot get the drop down menus to open when they try. Since I can't duplicate the problem, I have no idea how to fix it. Can someone help????

ReginaWhat browser are they using? That could be the problem.
Spry isn't the best route to go with menus anymore (I honestly don't think it ever was to begin with), Adobe no longer supports or develops Spry. You may be better off creating a new menu in CSS or jQuery. There are tons of tutorials online if you look for "css menu" or "jquery accordion menu" with tutorails on how to get them running.
I don't see any errors jumpiong out at me in your code, except one unrelated one. You have a link to favicon.gif in your head that isn't closed correctly. It needs a /> rather than a standard >. However, Favicons need to be .ico files, a .gif won't work. There's a free Photoshop plug-in to create the .ico file type here: http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/ but it can be found in several places online. -
Spry Drop Down Menu not appearing in I.E.8
I have created a spry drop down menu in Dreamweaver CS5, brought it to my webpage in Macromedia Dreamweaver, uploaded it and when I view the website in I.E. 8 only the top tabs of the menu appear. When I scroll over it, no drop down menu shows. Please help.

Spry Drop down menu disappearing behind flash mov
Hi Can someone help? I have a spry drop down menu that appears fine in IE but in firefox it disappears behind my flash movie! it appears fine if there is just a image. Any ideas?
This is the wrong part of the forum for this type of problem, and it may be better if you post this type of question (or most questions), to the dreamweaver section.
That said check your position: absolute: statments in your css, as this is often the cause.

Spry pull down menu doesn't show in IE6
Hi,
I'm learning DW.
I used spry pull down menu for main navigation bar, and it is
working in Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Then I asked my client who
has IE6 to look, it doesn't show spry menu bar, it is white, and
pull down doesn't show.
I researched and tried but I couldn't figured out. (although
quiet few posting about same kind of problem. Since I don't have
IE, it is hard to test and solve the problem also. Could you help
me??

Spry drop down menu not working after page created from template
Hi all.
I created a template and the drop down Spry menu is working fine on local testing on my browser as follows:
I then created a New Page from this above Template. I did no alteration to this new page and just saved it as index.html but when previewing it in the browser, the Spry drop down menu is not working and the page displays as follows:

On Design View and Preview in browsers the index.dwt page spry works fine.
When I create a child page from this template page, the child page looks fine in design view but does the spry fails to preview in browsers (the spry just shows as words and not drop down menus).

FW 8 popup-menu in CSS problem with IE7 & Safari
Hi,
hope that anyone out there got some ideas in my issue. I was
already searching the forum for advice, but couldn't find
meaningful infos.
Here is my problem:
I designed a page in FW8 (Mac) with a nice popup-menu. I
exported this thing into DW8 having set the option to export the
menu as CSS and slices to layers. Then I rearranged the html File
and included some editable regions, as it was to be used as an
template.
Everything works fine in Firefox but IE7 and Safari
experience some problems.
The popup-layers are displayed behind the main text-area and
not in front of it - this makes navigation a bit complicated.
So teh menu is displayed with text and everything, but behind
the main text.
What I tried:
I tried to reset the z-Index of the popup-layers to values
below 10 (were set to 500) - didn't help.
I gave every single item a z-index - didn't help.
I gave the main text area an z-index of 0 or -1 - made the
layer disappear.
I reexported the whole thing - made me just crazy.
I worked through the css file for errors - maybe I'm not to
good in CSS ;)
I checked the forums, but could only find issues where the
menu was not displayed at all or the text was missing - doesn't
apply.
-- no more ideas :(

I don't think this is accurate. Each browser supports things
differently,
and CSS is no exception, but support for javascript is fairly
reliable
across the board.

Spry drop down menu not lining up
I'm using a Spry drop down menu across the top of my webpage but can't seem to get all the boxes to line up.
For example, my menu bar currently looks somewhat like this:
Home About Staff
Links
All of the boxes are are part of the same spry menu, so I don't understand why this is happening.
This happens in design view, live view, and once I push it to the internet. I've checked the padding on each box and they are all equal. I'm lost as to where else to check.
Any Suggestions?Please post a link to the website so we can view the site in our browsers and offer suggestions.

Spry menu is not present in my dreamweaver 13.I downloaded it from https://github.com/adobe/Spry#what-is-included-in-161 but i dont know how to integrate it to my dreamweaver 13.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELPSpry isn't dead, it's just no longer supported directly by Adobe in Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver 13 is Dreamweaver CC and, with version 12, Adobe ended Spry support and started supporting jQuery. I just answered a question about that with respect to an issue someone else had here in this forum (Where's Spry, what's with this jQuery…?).
I started using jQuery with version 10, by manually moving the jQuery library and the plugin into the defined site, linking to those files in my web page's <head> section and adding any additional necessary code. You can do the same thing with Spry. And, you should know that Spry a set of widgets coded using AJAX, and each widget is used to create dynamic behaviors and/or functionality. AJAX stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.
For more on how you can browse these Spry widgets in Dreamweaver, there's a CS6 Manual that may be of help in restoring some of the functions you are looking for. -
