IE7 vs IE9 - any reason to update specific to Captivate?

I am listing minimum requirements to use Captivate training.  MANY users have IE 7 and it would be a monumental task to upgrade them all right now UNLESS their is a specific browser version problem with IE7.  Does anyone know of any problems?  If so, would you be able to cite documentation?
Thank you!
Mark

IE7 is fairly 'old' but at least your users don't have IE6!
We still allow IE7 for many of our projects and haven't enountered any issues specific to that browser. Most all issues seem to be more related to user's configurations - i.e. a locked-down browser, or video/memory deficiency, etc.
So in my experience, no need to require an update.
A general search shows some IE7 concerns/issues:

but nothing sticks out to me as...systemic.

  • HT204053 I have 2 apple ID's.One does not exist anymore. How can I remove the one ID. Under my ibooks I cannot purchase any books or update specific Apps because it recognizes our old ID. How can I remove that particular ID?

I have 2 apple ID's on my IPAD. One is no longer in use. I tried to remove the one email address and it is still shows up for example when I want to purchase a book in Ibooks it is showing the old apple ID and I do not have the password. How can I eliminate the old Apple ID?
    Please advise.
    Thank you

To change the Apple ID for purchasing, go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the ID you want to use.  (You will still be prompted for the password for the old ID when updating any apps purchased with the ID.)
To change the ID for FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.  For iMessage, do the same thing in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive.

  • Any reason NOT to update from iOS 4.3.5 to 5.1?  I'm scared.

I have an iPhone 4, and I am running iOS 4.3.5.
I am reluctant to update because everything is working fine.
    Any reasons to update?
    Any reasons NOT to update?
I see a couple of APPS that I have that will no longer work unless I update.  But that's not a big deal at this point.
I notice that some of the graphical interface has a different look (such as  the toggle switches).
    Thanks!

A few reasons I think iOS 4 is better than 5:
    * Resource management (iOS 5 takes up more space on your phone)
    * Loss of iPod icon, now split into Videos and Music
    * If you have a Bose Sound-dock, some report it no longer works
    * Battery is very hit or miss. No major degregation on my iPhone, but I have noticed it.
If you are on the brink, use TinyUmbrella and make SHSH blobs of your iOS version. Then you can swap (downgrade) iOS versions. Note that it isn't supported by Apple and you'll need help elsewhere to do this.
(I am a fan of exploits, so the average user need not worry about the above)
I updated to iOS 5 because of Reminders, Weather, and iMessage. Probably the best reasons to update.

Reset the device, restart the device, try downloading any other app.
All of these are basic steps that could have been found by a simple search of the forums as a resolution for the issue.

  • Any reason not to trash old updating software?

My utilities folder contains ipod updating software going back to 2003. Is there any reason not to send the old versions to the trash? It takes up a fair amount of space.
    Thanks.

You may want to keep the very last version of the stand-alone iPod Updater app. There may be some rare case where the update/restore feature integrated into iTunes does not work properly, and you want to try it with the old updater. Note: Although iTunes gets regular updates, the iPod software version for the old iPods (installed by iTunes for update/restore) remains the same.
Of course, if you no longer have the iPod(s) from that time, it would serve no purpose. iPods that were release after that point would not work with the old updater.

I have the iPhone 3gs.  Any reason NOT to update to iOS6?  I've heard there were glitches.

The iOS 6 is great, but really is there some issues with some people. This is your choice, but i would suggest to update only when the new version of the iOS 6 (probably the 6.0.1) comes out.

  • I have Windows 7 and recently everytime I try to update my iTunes I get an error message. Any reasons why?

Hi! I have a PC running on Windows 7 and recently I can not upgrade my iTunes. Any reasons why?

    Many thanks, that's perfect.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Any reasons why the content of a fillable form cannot be viewed or printed?

I have created a 2-page form on Adobe Acrobat XPro. I emailed it to specific people and they filled it out, saved it and emailed it back. I am able to view what they typed in my monitor only, when I click on the field, but it will not print the content. Any reasons why the content of a fillable form cannot be viewed or printed?

That's what I asked the people I emailed the form to and someone just emailed me saying: "I'll check my adobe. It keeps asking me to update and I keep ignoring it so maybe it was my fault". So there is the answer I guess. I saved the document as an Extended PDF and selected Enable Additional Features. Is there anything else I should consider?

  • Any news of updating ipod photo to ipod video

guys.. is there any news about updating ipod photo to ipod video in the future??? i'm so darn pis$ed after looking at the ipod video... i have an ipod photo 30 gig and i just feel that it's really unfair for other ipod with colour display users!!!!!!!!!!
anyone here would be kind enough to calm me down!!

    Bryan,
posts like this are in my opinion quite inappropriate and immature. I can agree on the fact that at the time of purchase the iPod purchased was exactly to specifications, but if a day/week/month later you can get more (10 GB and video capability) for the same price would you not feel cheated in a certain way? Just imagine it happening with anything other than a technological advancement and imagine it happening to YOU.
Anyway, it would be a very nice gesture for us Apple iPod enthusiasts to be provided with a firmware upgrade if the technology of their iPods is capable of handling videos. I for example am a Windows deciple, but as with everything, having listened to the right reasons, was contemplating to convert to Apple. Let's see how they handle this issue going forward.

  • 3G iphone - version 2.0 - any reason at all to upgrade to 2.0.1?

I honestly know nothing about these updates. All I know is my phone is the same software as when I picked it up at AT&T about 10 days ago. I checked and its on version 2.0
Is there any reason at all for me to risk the 2.0.1 upgrade and what it this upgrade supposed to be for? From what I read on here, its destroying about 50% of the phones out there...

The 250 MB update completely replaces the entire software image running the phone. All iPhone3G updates are likely to be 250 MB (or more, depending on how many cool new things are added). All 1st generation updates were around 170 MB, regardless of the nature of the upgrade. Apple does not release patches or incremental updates for the iPhone.
The process goes kinda like this...
Download the new image (the 250 MB download)
Backup the phone (all the user specific stuff, music, videos, apps, settings, logs)
Wipe the phone (preparing the iPhone for upgrade)
    Install the new image
Boot the phone on the new image
Replace all the user specific stuff from the backup above.
    Reboot the phone again.
It can easily take several hours to do this, depending upon how fast your Internet connection is and how much stuff is on your phone. I have a 15 Mbps internet connection at home so it only took about 5 minutes for me to get the download. But It took over 45 minutes just to do the backup on my phone, then probably another hour or so, before I had my phone back on 2.0.1. Just to find out the update did not fix my bluetooth issue. (release notes would have been nice) Oh well... The phone seems to work somewhat better in general, but I was not really having any problems other than the no bluetooth for voicemail with Plantronics problem. (my wife's Jawbone works fine, btw)
That is why I say "get used to it." Every update will involve the same process... at least.

  • Is there any reason that Apple can't support iOS4.3 on the second generation iPod touch?

I have a number of Apps that can no longer run on my iPod touch second generation because these Apps now requires iOS to be v4.3 or later.  For example, I used to be able to run Skype on this iPod touch, but it failed a couple of weeks ago.  I could not download it from App Store again since it requires v4.3 iOS and Apple does not support v4.3 upgrade on this iPod touch.  The hardware is perfectly fine - I don't see any reason that it cannot support v4.3 upgrade other than Apple wants us to buy newer products.  If that's the case, it leaves a very bad taste on customers' mouth.  How can Apple force their customers to dump what they bought a little over 2 yrs ago because Apple doesn't allow iOS upgrade and customers can no longer run the Apps they need on this device as a result?  There is no way that I am going to buy another Apple product based on this bully behavior!

I am not sure that I buy that.  Even if that's the case, why can I not continue to run the Apps that used to be supported on v4.2?  I should be able to run the version of Skype App that is compatible with iOS v4.2.  Since Apple controls the App Store content, they should allow those who stay on v4.2 continue to access the Apps that they used to run on v4.2.
Becuase App Store continues to push for updates, now it has pushed my iPod to a point of no return as those Apps are no longer supported on v4.2.  I cannot go back to the versions of the Apps that could run on v4.2 - I was happy with Skype (and other Apps) running on my iPod but that version of Skype is no longer available because App Store does not allow that.  It renders my iPod touch useless due to Apple's monopoly control!
If anyone knows how to download the older versions of Apps that can run on v4.2, please advise - many thanks!

  • Satellite L300-17L is putting itself on stand by all the time without any reason

    Hello Eldorado,
i am sorry that this is not a question in connection to the topic, but i have L300 - 17L laptop and from time to time it is shutting down (more specifically putting it self on stand by) without any reason.
It is not the cooler or anything else..
The battery is full, and that is happening while i am writing or working on the laptop generally!
The local service says that is nothing wrong with the laptop, i am so nervous, i cannot work , it is interrupting my work ..
    PLEASE HELP ME! thank you

    Hi
    So what happens exactly?
Does the notebook shuts down or goes into standby mode?
You said it happens from time to time this means that it would not be easy to replicated this issue and I think the technician was not able to replicate this is it right?
What applications are running if this happens?
Did you try to restore the notebook back to factory settings using the HDD recovery or Recovery disk? Do this!
Check also if your BIOS is up to date!

  • Any reason to scan PXI-2575 and SCXI-1127 in a particular order?

    Hello-
Is there any reason to prefer one scan-list order over any other? specifically is it better to scan through ch0, ch1, ch2, etc rather than randomly?
It doesnt seem like it would matter.. but many DAQ devices behave strangely if you scan them in ascending order (eg 0, 1, 2) and thus I always scan them in descending (e.g. 7, 6, 5, ...)
    thanks-
    brad

    Brad,
Simply based on the switch modules, there should be no difference in which scan list is prefferable.
Can you elaborate on the strange behavior you have seen on some DAQ
devices?  The only interesting behavior I can recall that may be
fixed by scan order is when certain channels are saturated and "ghost" onto other channels.  If this is the case, follow the steps in the linked KnowledgeBase to remedy the problem.
What data acquisition device are you using along with your switch modules?  What types of signals are you measuring?
    Have a great day!
    Travis W
