IE8 error on HTTPS, won't display PDF

Hello Adobe Forums!
I am using a site that uses HTTPS and javascript to display a PDF in the browser.  The problem is that when I use IE8 it decides to download the file instead. I have a feeling it has something to do with the cache control but I'm not sure.
When I use Chrome of Firefox it works with no problem but I can't use those two browsers with the business. There are other applications that need Internet Explorer.
I am using Windows 7 and it's 64-bit.
Thanks for your help!

HERE'S THE SOLUTION!!!
Just spent 30 mins with Apple Support by phone, and the solution is an easy one... do a HARD RESTART.
Hold down both the home and power buttons simultaneously (don't let go), the red slide to power off box will come up, ignore this and keep those buttons held down. The screen will go black and then the white Apple logo will appear, as soon as it does let go of the home and power buttons... the little blue boxes will now be banished and inline .pdf's work just fine!
Woo-hoo!

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser

    Posted before in wrong forum.
I am really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have been searching the forums and can't find an answer to it. I was also looking for the FAQ article about this that Apple says is an answer, but can't find that either.
Anyway, using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. Safari won't display pdfs in the browser. It is gray with the Acrobat logo.
I remember reading that the solution is to uninstall (delete) Safari and reinstall 3.0.4. However, I cannot find an install for 3.0.4 for Mac, and then do something with Acrobat. I am using 3.0.4 because it was part of a bundled OS update. I can't go back and downgrade my OS...
    What do I do?

    Hi,
You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser and I do not have adobe reader or ply ins

I've been checking the posts and all the discussions/questions and answers but the only thing I have been able to find about problems displaying pdfs in browser have to do with adobe plug-ins. I never had adobe reader and checked in /library/internet plug ins and never found those plug ins. I then downloaded and installed adobe reader X and got rid of the plug ins in the library and that still has not solved the problem. Whenever I click on a link for a pdf it just automatically downloads the pdf. I just want to view the pdfs in the browser.
    Thanks for the help

  • Adobe Reader won't display PDF in IE Browser Window

I am using Adobe Reader XI and Internet Explorer v. 11.0.9600.17280.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Adobe.  I've also checked IE Add-Ins and all Adobe Reader Add-Ins are enabled.
However, you're poorly written software STILL WILL NOT display PDFs in browser any more.
I need help, but since you're software is so horrible, you do not offer typical technical support.
    PLEASE HELP!

My company is having the same problem and I was hoping for some kind of final explanation.
The fix of resetting the Internet Explorer settings works for a time, then it later it has the problem again.  Our company has a reporting site which needs the documents to open in the browser to allow for drill down(generating another report based on a link in the document), so the reports have to be in the browser not a separate Adobe Reader Window.  We have tried other fixes on the Web like the TabProcGrowth=1, but still the problem happens later.
Our users are tired of resetting their Internet Explorer settings every week or more.  As this has worked in all previous versions, I would agree the issue probably lies in Internet Explorer or at least partly in Internet Explorer, but we need some way to keep the files opening in the browser rather than a separate Reader window.  Any additional thoughts or fixes by anyone would be greatly appreciated.

  • Safari won't display PDF

My Safari will not display PDF files when browsing.
The "Finder" opens and it says "select an Acrobat application".
I don't seem to have the Acrobat application.
Do I need to down load this application?
If I do, how do I link it to my browser?
And will I now open PDF files on my computer with the Acrobat reader instead of “Preview”?
    Thanks

Thanks Jan, but I never tried to install or remove any Adobe product.
Is Adobe a program that comes with the Mini Mac?
Will Safari normally display PDF files? Or was this something that I should not have expected?
It is kind of a pain not being able to see PDF's in the Browser.
The IE Explorer down loads the PDF file then uses Preview to display. But I really don't want to down down load the files, just view them.
I know on my MS XP computer I have no problem viewing PDF files.
Is there some setting in the Safari that I need to changed?

  • Gmail won't display pdf files

In IE the preview works normally. In FF I recently get an error.
It happens in safe mode as well.
    Thank you.

    Try reinstall your PDF plugin!

  • Preview starts but won't display pdfs

    Hi,
my macbook with 10.5.2 will not let me open pdfs using Preview while logged in as myself. Preview will start and display its buttons but not display the file. Other users on the same mac can do. I suspect one of the prefs. Deleting com.apple.preview.plist didn't help. What else can I do?
    Thanks, Hans

It sound like something in your User Library. Try dragging the whole preferences folder to your desktop and reboot. That way it should tell you if it's possibly another preference file. You can drag it back if doesn't help, and reboot.

  • IBooks won't display PDF's in iTunes

Hey everyone. I'm having trouble making PDF's appear under iBooks in iTunes. It was working great Friday morning and now I can't. I use it to scan my quizzes for school Is anyone else having this issue?
I'm using iTunes 10.6.1.7 on Windows 7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it also.
I am attaching a screen shot of what's appearing.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
    -Guillermo

I tried it at work at that seemed to do it. I still can't add them through the File -> Add FILE/FOLDER to LIBRARY option though.
I will try it also at home.
    Thank you for the suggestion!
EDIT: It was an ID10T error on my part! D'oh!!
I forgot to convert the scans to PDF. So I was trying to transfer JPEGS.
    My mistake.
    Thank you again!

  • Won't display PDF files

I have a PDF embedded in an email. It displays properly on my iMac and on my iPhone, but the iPad does not display it - it only shows the question mark icon, indicating that it doesn't know how to handle the PDF.
Is this a setting or a bug?
How does one go about reporting a bug to Apple?

  • Adobe is installed but won't display pdf files

Problem with opening PDF files. I have Acrobat Reader/Adobe Reader installed and updated. However, when trying to open PDF files online, say bankstatements, the browser will always open to a black, or dark gray page. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Caroline,
Appdata is hidden so please follow this Microsoft article to unhide and then delete the specified folder.

  • Safari won't display PDF's

Whenever I try to download PDF's from safari, the page turns up with a blank, black screen without the PDF.
I can download the PDF and view it outside of Safari, so it's not the PDF and when I checked my internet plug-ins, I don't have any with 'pdf' in the name.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Problem solved, not entirely sure how.

  • DVD Access won't display PDF file ?!?!

We've gone round and round and are in ****.
We're trying to burn a pair of PDF files as a ROM onto the DVD as a separate entity, accessed from a menu.
    They DID open in simulator.
The files (2 PDFs) don't end up in a folder, just loose, on the top level of the DVD and don't show up on playback.
We've tried putting them into a folder ahead of time and point to it just like the tutorial suggests.
We did enable DVD access on DVD player.
Linking to a WEB URL works just fine (we do get the concept).
WHAT are we doing wrong ? It must be some kind of file naming thing...
Any help ? Past deadline and looking really stupid.
    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    PowerBook G$   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

We've tried putting them into a folder ahead of time and point to it just like the tutorial suggests.
The folder you are pointing to becomes the top level of the DVD on build. This is correct, so ...
If - for example - under DVD-ROM, content, location you have selected /Users/mellon/ROM_FOLDER then inside this folder you need to create the sub-folder you want on your disc, eg 'PDF_EXTRAS', and put your two .pdf s inside this.
On your DVD you would then end up with three top level folders on build:
    AUDIO_TS
    VIDEO_TS
PDF_EXTRAS with the files in it

  • Robohelp 8 won't display PDFs in Windows 7

    Hi,
I am having trouble with a .chm project that was created for Windows XP use that now needs to work with Windows7. I have tested the functionality of the project and everything but the PDFs works properly. It gives me a blank screen with an x in the corner. When the URL is copied into a new window, it works fine. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

The only solution I have seen is to set the links in Rh to open the PDF in a new window.

  • PDFs Won't Display

I have a new iMac and it won’t display PDFs, as for example my tax return and bank statements, though if I can download them they display normally. I have Adobe Reader X version 10.1.2. I have this problem with any browser. With Safari the display is just a big black (and otherwise blank) window. What's my problem?
