IE8 tries to open PDF in Acrobat Reader instead of Acrobat Pro

I installed Acrobat Pro and uninstalled Acrobat Reader (in XP). Unfortunately IE8 continues to try to open web links to pdf files using Acrobat Reader, even though Reader has been uninstalled. XP correctly associates pdf files on my computer with Acrobat Pro. I've tried repairing my Acrobat Pro installation, but the behavior remains. Anyone know how I can get IE8 to use Acrobat Pro for pdfs?

You could check the registry key mentioned in my last posting in this discussion:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2726399#2726399
If the Reader executable is missing, You can manually change to "C:\Programs\Adobe\Acrobat #.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" or what is the correct path on Your pc.

  • Trying to open pdf and Adobe Reader Stops Working...Please Help

Trying to open PDF and it keeps popping up that Adobe Reader Stopped Working.  And doesn't seem to find a solution to fix.  Has been going on for a couple days.  Can't access pdf files needed for my business.

With Reader XI I assume you mean 11.0.0; try updating to 11.0.06.
Also, can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try to disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Internet explorer tries to open pdf in my old v6.0 acrobat not newly updated reader v9.0

When I try to open a pdf online Acrobat v6 tries to open it so I get an error message saying that v8 or v9 reader is required. I have v9 reader and it happily opens pdf files sent as attachments etc, as the default, but ie is defaulting to the old version of Adobe. How do I re-educate it to default to Reader v9?

Thanks - I was going to resort to that, but I still need Acrobat as I use it
create pdf's a lot. I don't want to pay for an upgrade to Acrobat as v6 does
    all that I need.
My PC happily defaults to reader v9 to open pdf's on my computer, it is only
ie that insists on trying to use Acrobat v6
Any ideas? If I do as you suggest, but then reinstall Acrobat I assume I
    will still have that problem?

  • How do I get rid of "Your Free Trial Period has ended" Screen when trying to open pdf in the Reader

    Hi
How do I get rid of the "Your Free Trial Period has ended"  Screen when trying to open a pdf in Adobe Reader?
I had a trial of Dreamweaver but it was too complicated for me.
There was no where to cancell the free trail so I let it run its course and expire.  It then deleted the programs which is fine (I didn't want to buy them) but it also deleted my Acrobat Reader.
I have re-installed that but when I try to open a pdf, all I get is the "Your Free Trial Period has ended" screen which only allows you to buy or exit and them exits all together.
Needless to say I am very UNIPRESEED with Adobe for messing up my programs and now they want to charge me $29 dollars to sort out a problem they created.
Can anyone help me to sort out this very anoying problem?
    Regards
    David

    Hi
    Thank you for the reply.
No I have not deleted anything, this all happened automatically when the trial period ended.
Other than an old version of Photoshop (version 7, for which I do have a serial number, I don't have any other Adobe software - just the reader which is now not working)
I was trialling Dreamwever but couldn't get started with it so am paying someone else to set up the website using Wordpress.

  • Unable to open PDF files in Reader after canceling Acrobat subscription

    Dear Adobe,
I have a case# 0185794056.  It involves a purchase of Pro XI and a cancellation shortly after.  Since the cancellation of Pro XI, I have had difficulties accessing Reader.  When I click to open a file in Reader, I receive a message stating I need to renew my Pro XI subscription.  What can be done?
    Sincerely,
    Brian Razak

    Hi Brian,
If I understand correctly, you're double-clicking a PDF in hopes of opening it in Reader, but it opens (or tries to) to open in Acrobat Pro, instead. Is that the case?
Did you uninstall Acrobat Pro after canceling your subscription? If not, I would start there. Or, you could also associate the PDF filename extension with Reader, instead of Pro (the steps vary by operating system).
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Open pdf doc with reader 9 when acrobat 8 installed

    Hello,
I created a form with acrobat 9 and distributed it.
It appears that on a windows xp computer that already has acrobat 8 installed, it is impossible to open the form with reader 9, (after installing it, of course...).
Then, I'd rather create an excel file...
Please, all suggestions to solve that issue very quickly are welcome.
    Thx++

  • My free Acrobat trial expired and now I can't open PDFs with Adobe Reader

I recently downloaded a free trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro before purchasing the software.  I already have Adobe reader installed on my computer (Dell PC -- Windows 7).  I attempted to purchase Adobe Acrobat as the parent of a student and I was told I had to wait for verification, which could take 1-2 days.  In the mean time, EVERY time I try to open a PDF, it asks me to buy the software and reminds me my trial has expired.  How can I revert back to using the free Adobe Reader I have always used?  If I had known it would be this much trouble, I never would have tried the free trial!  Can anyone help me out?
    Thank you!!

Open Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences | General: use the Select Default PDF Handler to specify Adobe Reader instead of Acrobat.

  • I am trying to open pdf in Pro and not Reader.  Please advise how I can fix this.

I am trying to open pdf in Pro and not Reader.  Please advise how I can fix this.

    Eric-
FYI, this is a forum for storage and sharing...photoshop.com and revel. If you have acrobat issues you might want to make a note of the other forums:
http://forums.adobe.com shows a list of all of them, and specifically http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat  this one for Acrobat
But, since I have had this same issue myself...
On Windows, locate your pdf document. Right click it and select "open with". Select Adobe Acrobat. That should do it. On MAC, I'm not sure but I'm guessing there is a similar setting.
    Good luck.

  • After Upgrading Acrobat Reader XI to Acrobat XI Pro the previewer in Outlook and Windows Explorer doesn't work.  I have to set the default program for .pdf's to Acrobat Reader inorder for the previewer to work.

After Upgrading Acrobat Reader XI to Acrobat XI Pro the previewer in Outlook and Windows Explorer doesn't work.  I have to set the default program for .pdf's to Acrobat Reader in order for the previewer to work.
    Can anyone recommend a solution?

If I set the default program for viewing PDF as Acrobat XI Pro the a PDF file will open with Acrobat XI Pro, but in Outlook I will get a white screen and the information bubble "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" and in Windows Explorer I get a white screen in the preview pane.
    My Acrobat version is 11.0.10
I am running Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1
My Internet Explorer is Version 11.0.9600.17691

  • How do I stop Adobe trying to open pdf files?

I have removed Adobe from my Mac, but it is still trying to open pdf files, both in Safari and in Mail. I've removed all of the files using CleanMyMac, so there is nothing left of it.
How can I change the default back to Evernote, or just view pdf in Safari?

Unfortunately, I can't do that as the file I want is coming up with this message: "Please wait...if this message is not replaced by the proper contents of the document, your pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
You can upgrade or get the latest version of Adobe Reader...etc etc"
I'm also getting this on my Windows XP Computer even when I have Reader installed.
I have already deleted all internet plug ins relating to Adobe in my Library.
