Iec 61000 magnetic sensor

Not really a LabVIEW question, but I'm trying to quote a project that calls for a "magnetic sensor", that appears, from the requirement document to be used in testing the UUT per IEC 61000-4-3. I'm reluctant to download the mentioned document, as it is $350 US, a bit pricey to just find out the details of the Magnetic Sensor. The author of the requirement document that I am working from (a  Government "standard") seemed to have a specific device in mind:              "Magnetic field sensor. The magnetic field sensor shall have a frequency response
bandwidth at least five times greater than the bandwidth of the generated magnetic
field, shall provide an rms voltage output, and shall have dimensions less than or
equal to four cm x four cm x four cm."
but unfortunately didn't share it with the rest of us. I will be talking to this device (whatever it turns out to be) with LabVIEW, so, indirectly it is a LabVIEW question, but more importantly it a reaching out to a large, worldwide, community of technical pros!  ;-)
thanks, as always

Yes, this is being done for one of the expensive lab. It is for the electromagnetic suscepetibility part, I'm think that I'll just tell them that this has to be TBD, see if someone hidden in their origanization has knowledge (or ideally, the equipment).
The top level document has some very specifc hardware call outs that are specific, but incomplete, another:
Light detector. A light detector shall be used to detect a visible positive alarm
indication as described in Section 5.7, Alarm Indicator Requirements, and shall
provide an analog electrical output that can be interfaced to the computer controller.
(See Section 6.3.13). The light detector shall have a coaxial output connector and an
output impedance of ≥ 50 .
Too many shalls without sufficient info to actually identify what device they are requiring. It shall provide an analog signal (pretty vague) and have a coaxial output connector with a 50 ohm impededanc, or greater! Ok, TELL ME WHAT DEVICE YOU were looking at when you wrote this document!

  • Magnetic sensor in Nokia XL

My Nokia XL device, purchased recently, looks like doen't have magnetic sensors.
I had installed compass app to know my direction, but it says that this device doen't have active magnetic sensors.
Magnetic sensors are needed to find normal directions north, south, west, east. Without this, nav maps are almost useless.
Is it something to do with my settings? or my device is faulty? or this model of Nokia XL doesn't come with magnetic sensors.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Nokia X, X+, XL don't have magnetometer.
By the way, navigation application's experience is much dependent on gps, not on compass.

  • Where is magnetic sensor in a MBP 17 2011 late?

I would like to find the magnetic sensor and check if It is on the right position due to a failure durin lid operations. Thanks.

That is outside the scope of my knowledge base.  An Apple store genius bar or AASP facility should be able to assist you.
Just a speculative thought, have you tried a SMC reset.  Cannot hurt!

  • Magnetic Carry Case + Proximity Sensor Problem

I noticed a problem with magnetic carry case and the proximity sensor being disabled in 10.1 for my Z10 STL100-3 as well as my wife's STL100-1.
When removing the phone from the case, to make or answer a call, the sensor is disabled. Thus, you easily touch the keys with your face. When NOT using the magnetic carry case, no issue. Seems like the magnetic sensor was disabling the proximity sensor.
Now, using 10.2, it appears the problem has been resolved. But will monitor over the next few days.

Who installed the new screen? You should take the phone back to them and have them fix it.

  • Screen goes blank with slightest movement of the lid; problem related to hidden sensor

    I posted this in the display section but got no answer. Because it's hardware related, I am giving it a try here;
The problem occurs in the following 3 ways:
    - Vista: when the lid is moved back and forth a *little* bit, the screen goes blank/black; restore is possible by first closing lid, waiting a few seconds till the lid light dims; then quickly bringing the lid back in position and press any button brings it back to life
    - Windows 7: almost identical, exept no button press is needed; this could be a settingin power scheme, I didn't check because it's not so relevant
    - Linux: same but no way to bring it back to life again; reboot system is only possibility
This means the magnetic sensor in the bezel that deactivates the system when the lid is closed is still working, but I don't understand why the screen becomes black when it is slightly moved back/forth ? I have read about  some sensor hidden behind the hinge depending on the model but very little info how to solve the problem
Could someone explain what is happening and how to find the cause ?

If only I could understand what's going on that would help me A LOT. I understand this is difficult, but there must be some HP expert who knows about this issue. Understanding the problem is the first step.
What could be useful for me to know is where exactly is that sensor, how to locate it, how to test it, what is the module or part to replace it if needed etc.

  • Need to run a PowerBook with NO INTERNAL display on an External display

So basically I have a TiBook that has had the display removed. I plan to run the machine using my lcd tv. Well, after hooking everything up, all I get is a blue screen. I'm assuming that the computer is looking for the original display. How can I have the computer ignore the internal and run off the external only?
    Message was edited by: kipiscool

Easiest way would be to place a small magnet over the spot in the TiBook where the magnet sensor is that detects when the lid is down. Do you still have the display? You can fish for where the magnet is located behind the display by putting it face-up on a table and using a paper clip at the end of a thread or piece of dental floss. Wherever the magnet is, the sensor would be located opposite of it.

  • Using Counters with NI - cDAQ 9172

    Hi,
I used to originally run a program with NI 6009 and used counters in LabView to measure vehicle velocity. I had 0-5 magnetic sensor connected to the PFIO terminal. I was essentially counting a falling edge and it worked fine in the NI 6009 module. But when I switched over to the NI 9206 (Fuel Cell) module having the same speed connected to the PFIO termainal I had problems using the counters. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how counters are to be used in the new cDAQ chassis. I found an article in the forums on how to go about selecting internal channels to show up the counters. But even after being able to select one I had no response on the program. Any ideas on waht could be tried to make the counters work?
I have also attached my program if that helps.
    Thanks!

  • Screen Goes Dark During iPhone Sync

This sounds strange and I can't seem to find a logical explanation for this.  I noticed that I went I plug my iPhone via USB for iTunes to automatically synch, within seconds the screen goes dark.  What I have been doing lately is to rest the phone on top of the MacBook Pro, just left of the trackpad.  I have also noticed that if I just place the iPhone elsewhere, rather than laying directly on the MacBook Pro, the problem doesn't happen.

That's where the magnetic sensor for the lid is located.  It causes the computer to think that it is closed!  Now, an iPhone doesn't have a magnet, except in the speaker, so maybe that's what happens.  Our your case has a magnet.
I hope this answers your question.

  • Oscilloscope .csv file output?

Im relatively new to this and am learning as i go. Dont have any background in electronic engineering.
Im using an Agilent Infiniium MSO8104A to record the voltage of the stepper motor control within a CNC milling machine and to record the movements of the x-axis and y-axis movements of the machine. I have circuits set up and probes attached. But i am also using a pre-amplifier circuit with a micro magnetic sensor to read the magnetic field of a PCB while the other axes are being read.
I am hoping to take an image of the PCB's magnetic field just for research purposes.
    Problem:
I have everything set up and the Oscilloscope is reading everything accurately
    Green = X-Axis
    Purple = Y-Axis
    Yellow = Magnetic field
    http://i.imgur.com/8eYEecd.png
When i click File->Save->Waveform and save as a .CSV file then opening the file i expected to see 3 or 4 columns. 1 column representing the voltages being detected on each channel and a 4th column for Time. However when i opened it i only had 2 columns of voltage data. Even when i only have 1 channel active taking a reading and save it to the .CSV file it still has 2 columns of data in the fole.
I can tell by the slight voltage fluctuations in one of the columns that that must be the magnetic sensor readings as the sensor would not be as accurate as the probes.
I have spent the last week trying to figure out why only 2 columns of data (assuming they represent 2 channels) are being recorded and not all 3 channels at the same time. Can anyone lend some advice on what i am doing wrong, as i have played around with the Oscilloscope settings, read through most of the manual and i feel i am wasting far to much time on trying to figure this out. I have talked to a few people that are educated and qualified in electronic engineering and are more than familiar with the use of Oscilloscopes but have only been able to explain to them my issue. The lab i am working in is restricted so i can not bring one in to show them what i am doing and for them to walk me through fixing this issue. They have advised that it is really dependant on how you have your Oscilloscope set up and what it is i am trying to do. This Oscilloscope was set up for me prior to me commencing, so i have assumed it was set up for what i needed to be doing.

I don't see anything in this about actually controlling the instrument.  You might have better luck going to an Agilent forum and/or Agilent Tech support since it is strictly with their scope and manually operating it.

  • ITunes opens by itself, can't find solution

I'm running iTunes 11.1.5 on my MacBook Pro with the 10.9.2 OS X, 2.53 Ghz Intel Core i5 processor
iTunues is auto-launching several times per day - and driving me crazy.  I don't have any devices turned on.  Auto-sync is turned off, even when I have the devices plugged in.  I can be doing anything from using MS Word for Mac to checking email on Safari, Chrome or even Firefox and all of the sudden, iTunes launches.
I don't have iTunes Help installed as a startup item, so that can't be it.
I've read through the forums as much as possible, but almost all of the nuggets of advice are about having the devices plugged in (which I don't), turning off auto-sych (it's not on) or even checking the widgets.  I don't have the iTunes Widget installed and don't ever use the Widgets.
    Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, I started having this problem a yesterday. I watch movies on my TV via the mini display port of my macbook pro and have to move the mac next to the tv (my friend has borrowed my hdmi extension lead and not brought it back yet!) While browsing the forums I saw that someone made mention that the 1/8 inch audio socket has some sort of magnetic sensor to determine whether the jack is optical (plastic) or a standard (metal) audio and it might have something to do with that. My macbook was sat on an old speaker (not in use so I didn't think it would affect my computer), so I have moved it off the speaker in case the magnets in the speaker drivers were causing a problem with the audio socket sensor. It appears to have worked (I did only move it 30 minutes ago however).
Do you have any speakers close to your computer? If so maybe moving it might help.

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep when shut

I body slammed my computer and cracked the screen. I bought a new, 3rd-party screen and had a friend install it. Now when I close the lid it won't fall asleep, and I must select sleep from the menu. Also, when it is asleep, the heartbeat is dimmer than usual. Tried resetting SMC, no luck.

    I'd guess:
    a) The magnetic sensor was left out or not aligned properly so it's not getting the 'lid closed' trigger
    b) The lamp was replaced out of alignment so isn't directly in position to glow correctly

  • Using LabVIEW to control an object in Blender/ importing an object from Blender and controlling it in LabVIEW

    Hi,
I'm just trying to start a new aspect to my project whereby I would control a 3D graphic of a human character using inertial and magnetic sensors.
2 potential options I am considering are to create the character in blender, import it to labview (.stl, .dae or any other suggestions?) and control it from there using my 3D orientation algorithms. Has anybody done anything like this?
    OR
Export the 3D orientation data to blender perhaps using UDP sockets or any other suggested technique anybody has(?) and then control the orientation of the bones of a 'rigged' character.
So basically if anybody has any experience of controlling a 3D graphic with LabVIEW data all help would be appreciated, better again if it was using Blender! Thanks in advance

Looks like an interesting project. I don't have experience with either of your suggestions, but I think the second one is more practical. My understanding is that the 3D display in LV isn't that great (although I don't have actual experience with it). The only modification I would make is to use TCP instead of UDP, which seems to make a lot more sense.
I'm assuming there should be quite a few examples online for how to write Python code in Blender to receive external commands and translate them to something in your blender scene (movement, in your case) and then you simply have to write the corresponding code on the LV side and make sure the protocols match. I would suggest you create a simple ASCII protocol. One thing to note about TCP protocols is that it's useful to have the beginning of the message encode the length of the rest of the message (let's say the first 4 bytes to encode a U32 number). That way, you read N bytes for the length and then know exactly how many bytes you have to read for the rest of the message.
Try to take over the world!
