Well, you can just count the pins, but I'm sure it's a 4-pin.  See this illustration:

  • Qosmio G30: Sony MV cam doesn't work with IEEE 1394 port

Qosmio G30-117 doesn't support my Sony DCR-IP5E (a micro video cam) through ieee 1394 port. I have tried to use pinnaccle studio 9 and ulead video studio 10, but I couldn't see my cam through these programs.
There is no problem if I install a new win xp media center edition (retail pack) and the drivers from CDTOOLS. But I want to use my factory setup of Qosmio,I don't want to buy a new win xp media center edition.
How can I resolve this problem?
    Thanks everybody.

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my Sony-Handycam. It is not a problem of the Qosmio but of XP SP2 and the new driver for msdv.sys.
Workaround to bring this driver back to SP1 (please follow instructions strictly):
You need msdv.sys from a SP1. It may be on your computer, if it was installed with SP 1 before.
Otherwise, you have to get it from someone else.
Remove Camera from Device Manager, if it has been shown anytime (look also for hidden devices)
Reboot in secure mode (F8 while starting) and login as admin.
Navigate to \Windows\Driver Cache\i386. Find the file "driver.cab" and open it.
In the cab find "msdv.sys" and expand it to your desktop. The version must be less than 5.3.2600.2180.
(If you installed native XP with SP2, you have to use the file, you got from someone else instead)
Copy the files in this folders, if available:
    Windows\system32\drivers
    Windows\system32\dllcache
    Windows\LastGood\System32\Drivers
(Maybe you want to rename the original files before)
Change to Windows\Driver Cache\i386 an search for sp2.cab.
Rename it to sp2.old and reboot.
    Your camera should work now.
If not, change the file avc.sys in the same way. You will find it in sp1.cab or have to get it from someone else.
I solved the problem this way on my last notebook and on my qosmio.
    greetings

  • How to connect a DV camera through the IEEE 1394 port on my A50?

    Hi
I have been trying to connect a video camera to my notebook SA50-109 throught the IEEE 1394 port.. but the notebook didn't recognize the camera at all..
although the camera shows 'DV-in' when i plug the cable witch is (4-pin to 4-pin) DV cable..
is there any thing I need to do before to make it work?
    any ideas.. please?

Hi there. Your PC should recognize automatically the DV camera. It's OK to have the firewire (1394) connection shown under "network connections". Next to mine it says "connected" although the harddisk connected to it is switched off. Maybe there is something wrong with the cable? Or, another suggestion, try to restart the laptop while the camera is connected ... Not many further suggestions I'm afraid ... Good luck!

  • Suddenly drop in communicationrate from both USB ports and IEEE 1394 port

    Hi
Lately my HPE-432sc Pavilion computer (Win 7, 64 bit) behaves strange when I try to communicate (i.e. copy) huge files via (all) USB-ports or the IEEE 1394-port to external units (USB-keys or External harddisc).
The copy process start with normal speed but then after 20-30 seconds the speed drops with a factor of at least 10....(and the copy-process terminate correct eventually!)
All drivers are up-to-date and the units performs correctly according to the device manager.
    Any suggestions?

  • X300 - IEEE 1394 Port

    Hello-
I would like to transfer digital video files to my X300.  I need to transfer the files via an IEEE 1394 cable but I believe my X300 only has USB ports.  Can I transfer files with an adaptor or can I add a IEEE 1394 port to my laptop?  Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!
That's a difficult to handle task since the X300 doesn't have any firewire port or an express card slot. To my knowledge there aren't any plain USB-2-FireWire adapters/converters available on the market and AFAIK the Lenovo enhanced port replicator, as most other third party USB based port replicators here too, also doesn't offer any firewire connectivity.
You have to search on the internet for any possible intermediate device, like maybe a possible USB-Firewire HUB (there is one available from Belkin, but that's primary for MAC Minis etc. since those have FireWire ports and so unusabel for you) or some sort of third party port replicator.
If there isn't any such HUB or replicator based device with a FireWire port available, you have to use another way (a detour) like storing your video files on some NAS (Network Attached Storage) or external HDD with a USB and Firewire ports and then transferring the files later from the NAS or external HDD etc. to your X300.
Hope this helps at least a little bit to clear up the very limited possibilities. Good luck!

  • Ieee 1394 port for HP G60-127NR Notebook

Does the HP G60-127NR Notebook PC come with an IEEE 1394 port?  If not, how do I add one?  It has a 5-in-1 reader.

You may have exceeded the available power capacity of the USB ports in your notebook PC too many times. That can result in non functioning (forever)  ports. That is the specific reason that I recommend only using externally powered USB hubs.
You can check the current carrying capacity of the USB ports and see how much they are using via the device manager.
Open Device Manager and then right-click a USB root hub. Select properties and then the Power tab.
This particular system has many ports available.

  • Microphone port doesnt work on SBL

The microphone works, but not in the microphone port. I have to use it in the line in port. But I dont want to do this because I have another device I'd like to use that port with. Any suggestions?
Oh btw, i did turn off the onboard audio in bios.

Unmuting the port, and it doesnt work. What is strange is, though even im using the line in port, i have the microphone line unmuted. If I unmute the line in port, the mic wont work. Seems strange. No I havent had a chance to try it in another computer yet, I just bought it like three weeks ago.

  • Equium A100-299: Firewire (IEEE 1394) port is not recognized

    I have a new A100299.
It seems that the firewire port is not recognized. Is there any software or driver that is not installed? Or what can I do?
    Regards
    U Molin

    Hi
What do you mean with not recognized? Did you check the device manager and there is a yellow exclamation mark or what?
In my knowledge the Windows XP uses the own firewire drivers and you dont need to use any 3rd party drivers to enable the IEEE1394 port.
As I said above, please check the device manager if the port is listed properly. If there are no yellow exclamation marks everything was installed properly.
By the way: Did you reinstall the OS?
If yes how did you install it? Did you install the chipset utility.

  • Nexus 7000 console port doesnt work both sup's

I have an odd issue... I have one nexus 7k where I cannot get signal from either sup console port... I have another 7k totally fine.. I can't see anything different in the config and I don't have them broken up into vdc's either they are just 1 vdc so it's pretty simple.  it's almost like the console is shut off and the odd thing is its both cards.  Any help appreciated
    anything I can check?

Are you using any type of telnet connection? I see that you say that the configs aren't different. That informs me that you were able to see the CLI at one time. Are you able to see the CLI when connecting directly to the console port from your PC?
It could also be the baud rate of the telnet program you are using. Make sure you are using the default baud rate for the Sup model you are using.
Also are you using the same Sup's? Once you push in the sups, one will be the active and one will be standby. If you are connected to the standby sup you will not be able to type any commands, but it will inform you in the hostname that it is the standby sup.
    Hope this helps.

Think you need to explain your problem slightly better, the Audigy 2 ZS does have a firewire port which there should be no problem with you connecting you DV cam direct into this. The audigy card does not need a firewire supply the port is built onto the sound card and is intended for the use of connecting DV cams etc. Have no idea what you mean by your dell dimension does not support peripherals which are not externally supplied?
Maybe you could submit another post explaining your problem a bit clearer!
    Hope this helps

  • Usb doesnt work

i have a macbook pro 2011 and one of the USB ports doesnt work

I periodically see this on my computer running mavericks and find I can restart (maybe even power down/up) and bring the port back to life. Have you tried this? I was almost thinking of reporting this as a(nother) Mavericks bug but I have no idea if this is just me or if others have the same issue.

  • Firewire IEEE 1394: Capture Card vs. On-Board Motherboard

I should know the answer to my question, but I don't...really. To capture video in my current computer, I had to install a video capture card with an IEEE 1394 Port.  It is my understanding that there are motherboards that have "on-board" IEEE 1394 Firewire. If I purchase such a motherboard, does that mean I will not need a video capture card? In the specs of motherboards they will give the number of available IEEE 1394 Rear Panel Ports. Do these ports connect to "on-board" firewire and can they be used to capture video? Please set me straight. Thanks.

I agree with Neale. One consideration is the number of controller chips you have on either the MoBo connections, or your card.
Why is that important? Especially with Capture from a camera, it is always best to ONLY have the camera hooked to a separate controller chip. Some MoBo's and cards, might have multiple connectors, but they may all feed through a single chip. That might well preclude having any other FW device hooked to any of the other connections. Sometimes, it's tough to tell the number of IEEE-1394 chips, unless one has a good schematic of the board/card and the various chips are shown.
If one uses other FW devices, then the chip count will likely matter. While I have 4 MoBo connectors w/ 2x chips, I also have a multi-chip 4x connector card, plus a multi-chip 6x FW-1394b (FW-800) card.
The two things that you wish to avoid is daisy-chaining ANY camera, and connecting a camera to any shared chip. If I had a card already, and did not need to include it with the old computer, and had a spare slot on the MoBo, I'd install it too, but then I usually have 4-6 FW-800 externals, plus maybe 4 FW-400 externals, and still have empty chips available for my camera.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Dummy DV (IEEE 1394) grabber for Mac OS?

Is there some "stupid" utility for Mac OS, which would allow to grab video from DV camera via IEEE 1394 port without touching camers's controls?
I'm trying to use AV->DV dup function on my Canon Elura camera, when the analog signal is just translated to DV out. But iMovie is a control freak: it won't start importing without starting the cassete...
I'm thinking about something similar to dvgrab for Linux...

Utility...which would allow to grab video from DV camera
via IEEE 1394 port without touching camers's controls?...
iMovie is a control freak: it won't start importing without
    starting the cassete...
I think there is some clarity missing here.
How one can get any signal, digital or otherwise, from a tape without actually playing the tape?
Or do you mean play the tape to get the DV out signal, but without capturing a MOV file on your HD?
In iMovie, clicking the play button will roll tape so you can view it onscreen, but it will not import when you do that.
Using the play button on the camera will also display within the imovie screen.
So my warped logic is telling me:
Presuming hitting the AV>DV button on your camera rolls tape and sends the digital stream out...it will beginn to display in iMovie, at which time clicking the import button should capture the digital stream the camera is outputting, which is the goal you are trying to achieve, right?
