If a LE Zen Micro defects in anyway.....

and then you would have to send it back to Creative to get it fixed.. would you still get to keep the extra items? Like.. If I just send the ZM along with everything else except the extra things included like the power adapter, what happens? Will they accept it or will you have to send the extra things too, and not get them back except a regular version of the zen micro..

I'm assuming that they would have you send just the player back, as they don't need anything else. It was always like this when I had a defecti've cellphone. I would get a prepaid label and box, and simply put the phone into it and send it back. Never even had to put it in its original box. Keep in mind, not everyone keeps the boxes or extra stuff, and over time, things get lost or broken, so I doubt you need to repackage it just like how it was when you first bought it.

  • Are ALL Zen Micros DEFECTI

Are all Zen Micros defecti've because I really am considering buying this player over a Rio Carbon / Karma or an iPod Mini or a 52mb/gb Sony flash memory mp3 player (those are nice by the way.) I really am looking forward to having an mp3 player that would just dead on play music, have a good audio quality, and can possibly hold 4/5/6 gigs of memory. It's really annoying when you see all these nice products out in the market (ie, products mentioned above) and they're all defecti've one way or another.
Please, somebody give me their honest opinons, especially the mods from Creative since you do work for the company. I really am looking forward to buying a product of yours.. mainly because of the memory, audio quality, price, and one of the best qualities -- the removable battery. I don't mind much for the voice recorder, removable disk, etc. I really want a long lasting mp3 player with a replaceable battery, good memory and audio quality.
If you think the Zen Micro is not for me, please let me know and recommend something else, please.
    Thank you,
    Rue.
    PS.
I have a few weeks until I do buy one, so do you guys think the Zen Micro's flaws (headphone jack, etc) will be fixed by then? Have anything to say about this Creative Labs?

A small percentage of them have a problem? Just have a look at this forum. Poeple are constantly reporting some problems. Also, I asked in various shops whether they had any complaints about the Micro. Guess what a number of shops admitted that customers would frequently return them as a result of the battery drainage problem and the headphone jack. Do you guys like taking out the battery every time you finish listing?
Stay away from the Micro. It's a pile of rubbish. Also, I don't like iPods and I certainly don't own one. But as it seems, the iPod Mini has far fewer problems than the Micro. Obviously, this doesn't mean that you have to go for an iPod. I myself have managed to find my personal perfect player. It's a real shame as I really like the look of the Zen Micro, but I suppose looks aren't everything. I'd rather have a well-functioning player than one that has blue lights.
The player has only a few problems, but those problems are serious. The battery drains even when the player is off, which means that you either have to put up with the fact that you wake up in the morning only to find your battery completely empty or you take out the battery after listing. Quite a few Micro owners do this, without realising that the wear and tear from the constant taking out of the battery is a serious problem and will later catch up with them. The other problem is the famous eadphone jack. It's not said that your player would develop this problem, but too many players do it. I wouldn't feel comfortable at the prospect of listing to my music through only one channel. Oh the touch pad is faulty with some players as well. And there are a lot other problems with it. At least, you're making the research beforehand unlike me who trusted various reviews by people who owned the player a day and claimed that it was so great. Sure, after only a day this is a valid and trustworthy thig to say. I should have known better.Message Edited by Reef on 05-04-2005 04:44 PM

  • Zen Micro defect with Firmware upd

    (Zen Micro version 2.00.2)
I updated my Zen Micro's firmware/drivers/applications the other day and now the player is not detected by creative media source organizer or zen micro media explorer - I have to transfer my songs through Real Player or WMP 0 now. Also, all the song lengths have changed to 8:2:5 long.
I had another problem even before the update - after the player is unlocked, the back arrow does not respond well. It would go to the tracklist then back to now playing. I have to go to the bottom right corner button and "lookup artist" then press back to go back to where I was before I locked it. I don't know if that's just the way the player is designed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

MediaSource won't work with the 2.00.2 firmware. Best to only upgrade if you are sure you want to use only WMP0.

  • Creative Zen Micro: Is there anyway to transfer the songs of your Micro to your

If the songs aren't licensed, then it's just a case of transferring them back. Look at the backup section in my Nomad Primer.

  • Zen Micro detection prob

Ok, I've just bought a zen micro (suprise).
Anyway, I installed the software on my pc and reset it. My micro was fully charged and had not been attached to the pc previous to this.
I then attached the micro via usb and windows auto detected it but could not find the right driver.
Also, Zen micro explorer and the other programs will not detect it.
So, I updated all the software on my system with the latest from the website, except the firmware as it will not detect the player to do so.
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. I would like to be able to listen to my music on my Zen Micro! :-)
    Cheers,
    Mike

You need to check in the information menu on the Micro and see what firmware version is on that player.
If it is .xx.xx then you need the 4.xx versions of Media Explorer software for the NON Plays For Sure firmware.
If the Micro has a 2.xx.xx firmware on it then you either need to get the .xx version of Media Explorer that is for the 2.xx PLays For Sure firmware OR downgrade the firmware to the .xx.xx version, which does not seem to be an option at this time.
Also look in device manager in windows to see if there is a USB device with a ! on it that refrences Creative or Zen etc.. If there is then make sure the Micro is not plpugged in. Remove the item from the list and then unistall and reinstall the proper version of software based on what firmware the player currently has.
Also if you are using a USB hub or extension cable of any kind try removiing it from the mix and connect the Micro directly to a USB port on the PC with the supplied cable.
    Good luck.

  • Anyway to turn the Zen Micro into a 'simple' MP3 play

    Hi,
I'm a budding music composer writting dance music. I've had a 6gb Zen micro now for a couple of weeks, and its really infuriating.
I really dont want it to use MP3 tags. All I want it to do is function simply like the MUVO and previous MP3 players. For instance, if I have a directory containing MP3's and I want to be able to plug it in to the PC, the PC recognise it as a hard dri've, then I just want to drag the folder containing MP3's to it just like a portable harddri've. When I disconect the Zen from the PC, I would like it to just play the MP3's - not resort the file order within the directory using the MP3 tags.
It was simple on the older MP3 players from creative - drag and drop worked perfectly - I could even use the device to move MP3's from one location to another.
I've tried installing all the available firmware versions, but they all seem to use the MP3 tags.
If I cant fix this, then I'm gonna have to get rid of it - which is a shame, because apart from this really annoying 'feature' its quite a nice player.
Also - the device isn't recognised by MAC's - and I really dont want to have to carry the software CD around with me to achieve this.
Does anyone have any answer to these problems ?
    Yours hopefully,
    Toneski.

The Micro only works by tags, unfortunately. There was a petition on here some time ago to support both tag and file-based sorting, you might want to add your name to that.
There are some pretty nifty tagging programs out there that will fill in the tags based on the folders and file names, which make re-tagging pretty easy. But if you don't want that hassle, you'll have to find another mp3 player I'm afraid. There are other Creative players that are file/folder based, but I'm not familiar with all of them. I'm sure someone here can tell you exactly which ones will work for you.

  • Zen Micro Photo bugs need to be worked out - firmware update comi

    Hi,
I've had my Zen Micro Photo 8gb for a month & have discovered some interesting quirks: first, I don't believe mine is defecti've, though I've had problems. I have encountered freezing on both the "Zen Microphoto" logo and "rebuilding library" screen; I scoured this forum and the Knowledge Base for answers, trying all that seemed applicable?- I tried disk cleanup and reboot (leading to rebuilding library freezes), reformats & carefully reloading the latest firmware?a couple of times. I've drawn some conclusions:?) Mediasource software is not working for me; when I switched to using only Windows Media , most problems went away.2) For whatever reason, "rebuilding library" can only be accomplished while my Zen is connected to the computer - should this be the case?3) It seems like the times my screen freezes on the "Zen Microphoto" logo I may have held the "on" switch to the side a little longer than necessary; I'm wondering if this is happening because I'm holding the switch on a little too long?Anyway, I love the size, look and sound of this player, so I hope to keep using it. NOTE: can anyone from CREATIVE tell me if there will be future firmware updates? Thanks

It realy realy bugs me that the zen micro photo isset supportet on windows 2000, i had this vision of syncronizing my work calender with the zen ... and now its just not possible ! unless my boss wants to give me a new laptop.. and i dont think that will happen . hehe
Well i will keep on working on this issue.. ill let you know guys.

  • Zen micro FM prob

my 5gb zen micro doesn't have the option for changing from mono to stereo. but more than that, it doesn't have an option to choose between international or japan frequency...so my player doesn't pick up any frequency at all.
    is this true for others?
is it caused by the current firmware upgrade?

    thanks everyone...
it was my player that was defecti've.anyway, i was able to have the unit changed now i can listen to both radio and mp3s.
    thanks a bunch!

  • My new Zen Micro is vexxing

OK, got a new Zen Micro, installed the software as directed on a WinXP Pro machine, SPa, and I reboot. I plug the thing in, and it says that the device is not detected correctly, and it does not work. I reinstall drivers, move to another port, play with my BIOS settings, the whole 9 yards...
I also notice something odd. I plug in the USB cable, and the player freezes. Requires me to unplug the battery to reset.
I plug in the battery charger, it freezes, requiring the battery to be pulled.
Unfortunately, I do not have another cable to try.
Any idears? Is it just defecti've, or is this something simple? I reall ylike this thing, but I am not gonna struggle with it or deal with an unstable product, you know?
I don't want to be one of those dorks with the iPod, but if I have to... LOL
Anyways, any help would be most welcome.

Well, I got it working on my home PC, but cannot get it working on my laptop. I turned off the PM on the USB root hubs in the device manager, and I plugged it into one of the rear ports rather than my case's front USB port.
Then it started working. But I do not seem to be aqble to get it to work on my laptop, which is a brand new IBM Thinkpad T4 running Win2K. Perhaps I do not have the proper drivers and crap installed, but my IT department has this thing locked down pretty well. I can install some things with some creative workarounds, but not others.
When I plug the player into this laptop, it sees it and knows it is a Zen Micro, but then Windows wants to install the drivers(which I already did and rebooted), and it cannot find any compatable drivers, and so it sits here.
From the songs I loaded onto it from my home PC, the sound quality is good, but unless I can get this resolved by early afternoon, I am just gonna swap it out for an iPod mini I think. I am not gonna bash this product, but sometimes there is a reason why one brand or item dominates the market... But I will see what I can dig up during the day, perhaps I can get this thing working properly afterall...
Any other ideas, throw them my way, thanks!

  • Almost full Zen Micro wont s

    Hey peeps,
I have a 3 month old Zen Micro 5GB. All is working but i am starting to notice a trend in my player that when ever I fill it up to 75%-00% capacity; my player would stop interfacing my computer (the computer wont recognise it is connected). I usually use the Zen Micro Explorer and Winamp5.2. The problem would go away if only i reformat my Zen Micro's hard dri've.. Is there anyway that I can make it better with out reformatting.

  • Zen micro screen une

Just purchased a zen micro....liking it alot....just have a minor problem...if you can call it that....more like an annoyance knowing the fact that it is there.
Well anyways....do any of you notice that the visible area (the area where the contrast is noticable) of the screen is kind of crooked or uneven? It kinda slants down to the right a bit. Like I said...not really a problem, but just wanted to know if anyone else is seeing this.
    thanks.

My player's fine. Perhaps yours has a manufacturing defect? The only way you're going to get it resolved is with a replacement player.

  • MP3 Zen Micro Music Purchasing Progr

I'm thinking of buying the Zen Micro but I don't know where i can buy songs that are supported by the Micro. Where does everyone get their songs?

I would recommend the Napster-To-Go service. I can't even imagine paying $.99 cents per song, and never have. For a flat $5 a month, you can download a mountain of good music, and stuff your new Zen Micro to the gills. I loaded a gigabyte of music into mine just this afternoon, sure would not have happened at 99 cents a pop.
I wish I could have turned Rhapsody into Napster-to-Go - I much prefer it, but they are still on the insane 99 cents a track plan if you want to take the music on a portable device (as the monthly fee is $0). What I love about Rhapsody is the great depth of genres to choose from. When I saw the Napster genre list I almost fell over it was so simplistic. It can also be a pain if the music you want to smack on your Zen is in Napster as a "buy" for 99 cents, but I can li've with that.
Since my son and I would fight over one music account anyway, we've decided to keep one Rhapsody account, and one Napster, and we're pretty well covered, still prefer Rhapsody on the home computers. I can open both at once, and go through the Rhapsody lists I spent eons building to help pick out the music for Napster lists to put on the Zen.
I have just one warning for you if you are a new Zen Micro owner - never under any circumstances hit the "Reload Firmware" command. I, and many others on this board, ended up with a pretty paperweight. Luckily I killed it in the first 30 days from Amazon, I sent an email that mine was defecti've, and received a replacement less than 48 hours later - have 30 days to return the broken one.

  • Zen Micro: Poor Battery Performance Even with Firmware Upgr

The Zen Micro's battery life is advertised to last up to 2 hours, but I am only getting approximately 7.5 hours. I have installed the latest firmware v.0.03 upgrade, and fully charged and discharged both batteries at least fi've times each (using the USB and AC adaptors before plutting into outlet). Before the firmware upgrade I was getting just under six hours of battery life. For testing purposes I am using 28kbps MP3 files, volume level 8, no EQ setting, no backlighting, and the headphones that came with the product. Since I have the player sitting on my desk, without being listened to, there's no skipping or forwarding of music tracks. Gi'ven the non-demanding settings, the battery performance is disappointing.
I have contacted tech support and they want me to send in my player for repair or replacement. It seems this issue is prevalent for all Zen Micros and I don't want to send mine in to have it returned all scuffed and scratched and not fixed (or get some grimy second-hand, refurbished model instead).
So I want to confirm that others are experiencing this same problem before I decide what to do. It seems it would be best to get another one from Amazon instead of going through the hassle of repair.

I notified Amazon of the problem on Friday and got a brand new replacement on Monday. Talk about great service.
Unfortunately the replacement is a crapper also. My second Zen Micro immediately and completely locks up when plugging in the USB cable. Since I didn't return my original unit yet, I was able to try another cable but got the same results. I fully charged the batteries, tried all of the various recovery mode options, and still had the Creative drivers/software previously installed on my computer from before. I'm running WinXP SP2 with up-to-date patches, and no other software installed since. My PC's motherboard has built-in USB 2.0 support (with power mgmt turned off) and updated drivers and BIOS, but these things shouldn't be an issue anyway since it worked fine with the first Zen Micro. I'm not able to upgrade the firmware, let alone transfer music, because of the lockup problem. I build and fix PCs for friends and coworkers all the time so I'm confident in my trouble-shooting abilities.
The second Micro makes the first one seem perfect. I really wanted to like this MP3 player, but two defecti've products in a row is totally unacceptable to me. What a waste of my time. I should have been more suspicious about Creative products since my Muvo TX FM player was buggy as well (i.e. player would immediately shut down when powering on). I will check out the Rio Carbon or iRi'ver products instead.

  • Zen Micro dead after an attempt to update firmw

My Zen Micro is not even a year old. I started having problems at the start of the new year. It just went to Recovery Mode. At first, none of the 3 options worked. My laptop was unable to detect the device. Today after a driver update on my machine, it found my Zen. The 3 options now worked, but did not fix. I just got more responses from my zen. But it remained in recovery mode. I decided to reload firmware via usb (since the 2 options gave no + result). I got as far as the "gear"?image then it froze. I had no choice but to unplug my zen. Now, it is dead. Doesn't power on. Doesn't charge via USB nor directly from a power outlet.Changed batteries. The same. Can anyone help? • Zen Micro and (Re) Location of Audible Fi

I recently purchased a Zen Micro (thanks Creative for FINALLY adding Audible support - too bad the Micro Photo doesn't have it or I would have bought that one...)
I loaded up the latest Playsforsure firmware, and registered my device with audible, and then downloaded a bunch of audiobooks.
Unlike every other player I have used (a lot, btw), unfortunately, the Micro's Audible content appears in the same folder schema as my music - e.g., I have to select "music" then "genre" then "audiobooks" (for books) or "spoken word" for magazines. Worse, magazines appear by multiple authors rather than the title of the magazine and date. And even worse, not all the books I downloaded appear within the "audiobooks" genre though I can see them when I look through the explorer interface on the PC. This is very strange.
Anyway, I thought maybe I could just move the files around on the device - that is what playsforsure is supposed to be all about, right?
Unfortunately, the files appear to be "locked" to their current location in the root directory, and cannot be moved even within the player itself. This is what makes me hate DRM.
Right now, I have resorted to creating a playlist, and including all audiobook/mag content on the playlist; but I have to update the playlist each time I add a new audio book and I cannot find a way to automate that.
Any ideas on how to (i) relocate my Audible content (making a new folder below the root where future audible content will be located), (ii) automatically updating my playlist when new books/magazines are added, or (iii) modifying the menus on the Micro so that audiobook content (of all kinds) has its own category outside of the Music folder?

I have the same problem and still haven't found an answer. When I first bought a ZEN V, it refused to play large files at all. I got no help or answers from Creative, but they categorically denied that it was their problem. They insisted the fault was in the audiobook files. Then they came out with a firmware update and the problem was miraculously solved!
My Zen V stopped recharging a little over a year after I bought it. There is no way to replace the battery. So, I bought the Zen Micro, and now I've got problems with the time display. ?
I suspect it's a software defect, which I'm certain Creative will deny. They've already proved to me that they don't care about supporting their products or their customers. I doubt that they really care about supporting the Zen Micro any more since they just want people to buy their latest and most expensi've products.
