If an iPod touch 5th Gen is completely powered off, can apps still run down the battery?

Hello,
I own an iPod touch 5th generaion that is less than 2 months old, it worked great until about a week ago then the battery started depleting rapidly, usually  fully within a 12 hour period even if I did not use the unit.
I started trying to figure out if there is anyting I cold do and learned a lot about apps left open draining the battery, etc. but making sure they were all closed did not help.
I then restored the unit to factory default, but this does not help.
The last thing I tried was to turn the unit completed off at night using the power switch by holding it until the unit turns off.
My question is, once I do this can any app use any power at all?
The reason I ask is because I had spoken with 3 Apple technicians and all 3 of them do not understand or can answer the question. They keep asking me if I know how to look in the taskbar to turn off the apps which once the power is off is not an available option.
I will greatly appreciate your response.
Mike.

Thanks so much for your answer.
Yes, I am sliding to power off.

My iPod Touch 5th Gen won't open. I don't know if the battery is empty or what. I tried connecting it to the computer but it won't start up. I think it just heating up. When I tried to charge it, after a few seconds it it hot. Can somebody help me, please?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The hotness suggests a battery problem

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • When I am listening to music on my iPod Touch 5th gen and it is locked I try to double click the home button to bring up the music controls, but it does not work. How can I fix this?

So, I locked my iPod while listening to music, then pressed to home button to turn it back on, then I pressed it again twice to bring up the music controls so I could pause the song. The music controls came up, but they didn't control the song I was listening to, also the album artwork wasn't showing. How can I fix this?

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10sec. or until Apple logo appears (Nothing will be lost, this is just a "Hard Reset")
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)
    Cheers!

  • I charged my ipod touch 5th gen 32gb for 4 hours but it still drains fast like a fast charge

Even though I charged it for 4 hours, it acts like it was fast charged without me doing much activity except alittle 3D game and some videos. Is the battery defective?

How long does a full charge (at least four hours) last? Getting about 5 hours of video is normal

  • I have an ipod touch 1st gen 32 GB. It stops playing music randomly. The battery has been replaced and I've tried restoring iOS 3.1.3 as a clean install but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The battery died so I had it replaced. Now it stops playing music (It was doing this before with the old battery when plugged into power cable)... it won't even make it through a whole track. I have tried turning off and on, turned off autolock and restored several times to 3.1.3 with no apps, just music but the problem persists.
    Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I suspected it to be a hardware fault but found a lot of people online had experienced the same problem. What should I do? Obviously it is well out of warranty and the battery is literally brand new. Seems a sad waste if it cannot be repaired. I've yet to find a definitive answer or what to do, be it contact Apple etc....
Again, many thanks for taking the time to help. :-)

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB Camera

My friend has the iPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB version with back camera and was purchased when it was released,
I want to buy the iPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB version and now it seems Apple has removed the back camera on the 16GB version, is there anywhere I can buy the 16GB version with back camera brand new?

The 5G iPod was originally introduced with 32 and 64 GB capacities. Both had front and back cameras. At that time a 16 GB 4G (poorer cameras and other things) was also released. This year a 1g GB 5G withour back camera was released. There was never a 1g GB 5G with both camera.

  • IPod touch 5th Gen Microphone Dead?

    Hello,
We bought our 7-year old son a (PRODUCT) RED iPod touch, 5th gen for Christmas. About a week or two ago, the microphone quit picking up audio. So now he can't voice-to-text, use FaceTime or Siri or record audio in videos. I've checked and there's nowhere in iOS where you can mute the mic - that I know of anyway. He's been super careful with it and says he hasn't spilled any liquids in it or anything. When we plug in the earphones that have the volume +/- controls and mic on them, the device will pick up audio through that mic as it overrides the built-in mic. So thats proof there's something wrong with the built-in mic.
So Anyone else had this happen? If so did you find a way to fix it or did it have to be sent in for repair?

    - Make sure the mic hole it clear and unobstructed. It is the hole on the back by the camera lens
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a hardware problem.

  • How can I unlock ipod touch 5th gen currently disabled and never sync'd with itunes

Basic situation. Ipod touch 5th gen. Passcode forgotten and tried too many times such that ipod is disabled and requested to connect to iTunes.  Problem is that the ipod was never sync'd with iTunes so the connection fails.  I've only owned it for 9 months or so.  I know I can recover all my music through iTunes and my applications through the app store since all of my content was legally purchased.  The problem is that I need to also recover my contacts and pictures since this is the only place they exist.
I have read about methods up to 4th generation where you can access a particular file on the device via computer and rename it to unlock the device. That would most likely allow me to then sync/backup via iTunes and recover my data.  Problem is that I can only access the DCIM folder via windows manager and it contains no data. Perhaps there is a way to access the device a different way?
Is there a way with the 5th generation to either reset the lock (from disabled to locked with a 1 min wait for retry as an example) to allow me more opportunities to try other passcodes that I may have set (including mistypes etc) or to remove the passcode completely and let me set it to something I will write down this time?
Please do not reply with the standard apple responses of 'sync with itunes' or 'factory reset' and no, I did not sync with the icloud either (I tried but it was unsuccessful for some reason).
The answer doesn't even have to be a free one as I would be willing to pay for the solution if it were guaranteed to work.  Since apple seems to want to charge for any type of support, even to ask a question, I am relying on the community for help.  Thanks much.

You have to place the iPod in Recovery mode as Apple says and erase the device. It is a security feature.
    or
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    There is not other way

  • I have numerous different apple products with the new lightening connector, all of which have broken or stopped working after just short periods of time, I have an iPhone 5C, and iPad mini and and iPod Touch 5th gen?

Hi, I have numerous different Apple products, an iphone 5c, iPad mini and iPod touch 5th gen.
I have had them all for only relatively short periods of time yet the lightning cable has stopped working on all of them?
On the touch, charging has stopped completely?
Is this a manufacturing issue with the new charging system?

Hi, yes I'm using the original apple cables.
This definitely isn't user error nor confined just to me, the devices are used by different people in the home.
On a quick sample around the office (survey of 7 people let me add) 4 of them said the cables had broken on them and had to be replaced.
Having also searched through the forums it appears this is a fairly widespread issue.
    It's defo not user error!

  • My iPod touch 5th gen went black and is not being recognized by my computer?

My iPod touch 5th gen was working perfectly fine about an hour ago i was taking pictures talking to my friends. I had it in my pocket for about 30 mins without using it and when I went to grab and check on it went completely back and I thought it was dead but I remembered it was charged more than half way.  When I got home  I plugged it in my computer and it doesn't appear on my computer what do I do?

Dang, if you had a Windows, I'd definitely be able to help you. Maybe try restarting your computer, & re-installing the Apple Mobile Device Support & iTunes under your "programs" on your computer settings. Idk if this helps because I have Windows not Mac :/ Best of luck.
