If an item is deleted before opening does it open in the background anyway?

If an item is deleted in 'mail' before it is opened does it open in the background anyway? I am concerned about hackers, worms etc.

No, if you delete, that is trash and then empty the trash, it is gone from the system.
If you are really, really concerned, delete, empty trash, and then restart the system...anything that may have been in volatile memory will be gone that way.

  • ICal error: item was deleted before write could occur

    I get thousands of these:
iCal: Unexpected EOF, returning last token as fallback
Every once in awhile I get this:
iCal: CalDAVWriteEntityQueableOperation - item was deleted before write could occur:
I've deleted calendar caches, deleted and re-added calendars one at a time. They are all google cal-dav subscriptions. I've tried everything I could think of.

  • When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as google) I get a message that it could not find the loaction. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened.

When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as Google) I get a message that it could not find the location. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened. Then when I close the window I see that the message is still there. I have to close it separately. Any suggestions? Oh, and this only happens if Firefox is NOT already active. If I have another Firefox window open when I click on the Icon, it just opens as expected. This message appears no matter which site Icon I select. It did not happen before I upgraded to ver 9.0.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

  • How can I open links from mail in the background?

I receive a lot of digest emails with lots of links. I would like to be able to click all of the links in a given email, have Safari open those pages in the background, and then when I'm done selecting the links I can switch to Safari and read them all. It's a logical workflow for me: click all the links you want to read, THEN go read them.
But instead, every single time I click on a link it jumps to Safari, so I have to switch back to Mail, click on the next link (which again jumps to Safari), etc. NetNewsWire allows me to open all my links in the background so I can avoid all this switching back and forth--can Mail do the same thing?
Thanks in advance for any help ...
    --Bill

You should be able to Command-click on the link in Mail and have it open in the background.

  • When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.

When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

  • Does safari load in the background?

and if you have two pages open will it continue to load one while you look at the other?

It actually loads if you do not quit Safari, but if you do not re-access the page that is loading in the background in a timely manner it will refresh itself when finally accessed (I never timed it to see at what point it will refresh itself but it does not take to long)

A double click on the Home button will reveal a tray containing all apps that are currently running (suspended?).
Side swiping this will reveal as many as are active, with a swipe to the right when on the first display will reveal further controls for the iPad, mainly relating to the iPod part, but also containing a screen lock option I believe.
Click and hold any one of them till they 'jiggle' and show a - you can then click this to remove it, relaunching the app as required in the normal way.

  • Does firefox update in the background?

I get a notice that Firefox wants to update. I click go ahead. My Webroot Secure pops up to state there is a risk of infection and denotes it as pua. something or other. Is this a real threat or is Firefox attempting a legitimate update? I just installed it two days ago from your website.

But does firefox do the updates in the background, without any popup windows? If so, then when I see a popup purporting to update firefox, I will know it is fake and let my AV do what it asks to do - get rid of it. The name of the threat was pua.firefoxadmin or something like that. On the other hand, if there is a setting stipulating that I always be asked (I thought I asked at install that firefox just do the update automatically) and this creates a popup, I will allow the update.
How do I check to see if I am being notified of each update and asked to approve?

  • Why when I open contacts on my Macbook Pro running ML and I click on the window, does it disappear into the background. It basically makes it unusable because I can't touch it.

I've restarted my MacBook Pro (like I used to have to do with my PC) and I've of course also quit and restarted Contacts. What happens is, I select Contacts, like lets say from the Dock. It opens or comes to the foreground if it was already open. I can type in the search field (because the cursor is already there by default). I can hit enter and search, but if I touch the window it disappears behind all of my other applications. Yes, not just behind one application but behind everything that is open. So, I have to minimize everything or shove it all out of the way in order to get to the Contacts window and use it. Do you know the solution to this?

when you restart the machine, make sure you uncheck the "reopen windows" check box, and see if that helps.

  • Why does iphoto stay in the background off screen when I open it and won't stay on screen?

Since yesterday every time I try to open iphoto it stays out of sight. I can bring nto view using mission control but I cannot work with it.
I have downloaded mountain lion and iphoto but I still have the problem

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Every time I connect and disconnect my iphone/ipad windows vista opens windows media player in the background.  It then hogs all of my cpu.  Does this happen to anyone else?

I am running iOS 4.3.5 and this has been going on for months now.  I need to keep my task manager open to kill the task when I connect and disconnect my iphone or ipad.  It hogs all of my cpu, sometimes opening 2 or 3 windows media players.

Sorry, just to confirm, I DID NOT ACTUALLY ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION!
I replied to the previous message from my iphone and I managed to hit the link to "This has answered my question" by accident!
I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A RESOLUTION TO MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE ALSO NIW TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF THE GREEN TEXT TGAT SAYS TGAT MY QUESTION IS ANSWERED? That is a pain! It should at least ask you to confirm that your question is actually answered and you didn't hit it by mistake, like I did!

  • How do I delete a process that's running in the background?

A process called "tunmgr" is using up 99% of my cpu causing my macbook air to overheat (and the fan(?) to be really loud). I've searched about the process/file and a few websites basically just says that it is a Blackberry app(?) and that it hasn't been confirmed (yet) to be harmful.
I've already deleted the blackberry desktop manager on my computer as I've recently switched to iPhone. Is it safe for me to delete "tunmgr" and how do I do that?
Every time I notice my computer overheating, I had to keep going to Activity Monitor to force quit the process/file.

I had the same problem and researched it.  The tunmgr is essentially a bug that spawns a looped process due to checking the "Open Blackberry Link when a device is connected" in Blackberry Link.  To stop the process, open Blackberry Link -->> Preferences (not in the main menu, the gear in the top right corner) -->> uncheck "Open Blackberry Link when a device is connected".  Then restart and it should be back to normal.
ps - thanks for fixing this Blackberry!

  • After a crash all open tabs disappeared - but in the background one website with audio is open. I cannot close it, because it appears as if no tabs are open.

My browser froze & reopened with all tabs closed. I couldn't restore the tabs. Since then, when I open the browser, one tab I had with a video keeps playing - but I cannot see & therefore cannot close it.
I have tried restarting my laptop & I deleted all history/cookies/..., but nothing helped yet.
This is very annoy, please help!

  • ApplyJRF - what does it do in the background?

Is there some documentation on the procedure and what it does? If you give me a link and it is directed to a blog I probably cannot get to it from my job. :(
Basic questions on the direct I am looking for:
Is there a package that gets extracted to the wls libraries? If so, what are those libraries? If not, what does it do to wls configuration that makes the jrf accessible to the wls?
    Thanks for helping!

The JDeveloper/ADF OTN forum users will be better equipped to help you understand JRF and I encourage you to post there - it's not a core part of WLS, but part of the upper-stack Oracle products that use WebLogic Server. Sorry I can't help you more.

  • How does dust get in the screen anyway?

I have a few dust spects in the screen you don't usually notice. But I have when the comp is closed a gray piece of dust, a little bigger than a dust dot, like a bigger piece of dust. You can sometimes see it on a really light screen when the comp is on. How did it get in, and so far in the middle? Will dust fall down later? Because I dunno how the dust got to the middle...
Ugh it just bugs me! Dumb dust how did it get in the macbook pro screen! Had my mac for over 2 years.

Yeap. I have that same problem with my Zen Vision: M and my friend has the same problem with his iPod. Yes... It does get really freaking annoying. I just posted a thread about it because its really bugging the crap out of me... So I dont know any possible way to fix this, besides taking it apart.
