If Generic R3 Data Extraction does it all, why other extraction techniques?

Hi,
I am reviewing some documents about data extraction and I have a quick question.
With
1. standard Business Content extraction and
2. Generic R/3 Data Extraction (which by definition, can be used to extract any data from R/3)
why are there other techniques for extraction?
For example, I do not recall but I remember that there was a different technique to extract FI data and another to extract CO data.
Why is the need for these other techniques if Generic R/3 Data Extraction can do it all?
(By the way, if you recall the FI and CO extraction techniques you may give me some hints)

Would like to put something from my side as well.
Generic extractor are a strong a tool but with lot of limitations like...if you have seen it there...only three kinds of delta menthod is supported and that too changes to only one field is captired and cannnot be used with cluster and pool tables which form a mojor portion of FI domain.Even if you can write FM for that but then it has its limitations with delta enabeling and capturing delta and performance which again leaves lot of work to be done by us.
What SAP has coded for standard FI-CO data sources internally is very complex and if tried to be achieved through standard generic data sources and coding all the time......will make SAP very tough to be used by masses and to learn for the beginners like me and you.
A standard transaction in SAP may hit several tables and to capture exact changes may require to write quite a complex logic and lot of thorough testing.
We do build out own data sources for FICO as well but most of the time the need is satisfied by the existing data sources.
I think SAP knows what kind of reports are required by the users in R/3 as they did thorough study about this and then came up with these extractors to make possible same kind of reports in BW.
This is the advantage of SAP over other tools that it has inbuilt logic to extract the data from standard tables and capture all kind of changes in delta and manage delta easily without being bothred too much about internal complications...all you have to do intially is start the work by having a knowledge of FI and BW data sources...slowly you can start playing with them and come up with customized one and explore SAP.....as your requirement grows.

Because you can't. It's written into the basic programming of the app that it only works on wifi (likely data rates ro the such, but that's just guessing)

File Data Source: does not support any other host except LOCALHOST?

I am using US 1.0.3.
This exercpt is from the OTN iLearn Subscribed course titled "Oracle9i UltraSearch New Features" on operating system file access:
"The file protocol is used only for the machine that launches the crawler. You can not specify any other host for this kind of URL, except LOCALHOST."
Does it mean that US 1.0.3 can not be used to search other file servers on the network? For example, we have US 1.0.3 installed on a server S1 which is on a network with other servers (e.g. S2). I want to use US to search files in the folder myDir on server S2. So I tried to create a file data source with this URL:
file://\\s2\myDir\
But I got this error:
Invalid file protocol URL: file//\\s2\myDir\
Hostname of the file URL "file://\\s2\myDir\ is not "localhost".
My question:
(1) Can US 1.0.3 search files on a different server than the one US is running on?
(2) If so, how to specify the URL using the above example for it to work?
(3) If not, how about the newer version of US, 9.2 or 9.02? Can they be used to search files on other network servers/drives?
(4) If no to question (3), is there any plan to support this in the future version of US?
My comment: Not able to search other servers really limits the userfulness of US. I really hope Oracle will consider adding this capability.

More on my previous questions:
Since I posted my previous question, I have read on the 1.0.3 online help that we can define remote crawlers to crawl "on a remote machine other than the Oracle Ultra Search database". So I assume this is how to make US to search on other servers. In the online documentation it also includes the following paragraph on "Remote Crawler Profiles Page":
"Use this page to view and edit remote crawler profiles. A remote crawler profile consists of all parameters needed to run the Ultra Search crawler on a remote machine other than the Oracle Ultra Search database. A remote crawler profile is identified by the hostname. The profile includes the cache, log, and mail directories that the remote crawler shares with the database machine. "
The Remote Crawler Profiles Page, however, displays only remote crawlers already defined and the page seems to be used just for editing the porfiles of these defined remote crawlers.
My questions:
(1) How do I create the remote crawlers and defines the profiles in the first place?
(2) Where can I find more documentation on remote crawlers?
(3) Once the remote crawlers are set up, how do I specify the file URLs for each remote crawler?
(4) With US9.02 or 9.2, does remote crawler work the same as in 1.0.3, or are there any enhancements?

I tried this trigger method to compress. It does not work. I get an invalid argument error.
I however figured a complete solution using forms: Here it is:
to compress and store:
Just put it to the table and use an update statement like this:
UPDATE dlo_channa_documents
SET da_document = UTL_COMPRESS.LZ_COMPRESS( da_document ) WHERE pk = :DLO_CHANNA_DOCUMENTS.pk;
Now to uncompress and show
(1.) Create a temp table with blob column
(2.) Insert record to temp table like this:
     INSERT INTO dlo_channa_temp_blob
     SELECT v_next_val, UTL_COMPRESS.LZ_UNCOMPRESS( da_document )
     FROM dlo_channa_documents
     WHERE pk = :dlo_channa_documents.pk;
(3.) Now use webutil_file_transfer.db_to_client to transfer from temp table to client hdd and show using
     CLIENT_HOST( 'cmd /C start ' ||      v_saved_file_name_full_path); -- Open the document in Word

Selection in the Generic Data Source does not work

Hi gurus,
I have some problem with the selection in the Generic Data Source.
I have created a view as a base of a Generic Data Source.
This view is based on several table; i.e.: VBUK-VBELN (Sales Order number), VBAP-ERDAT (creation date of Sales Order), VBAP-POSNR (Sales order item), VBAK-BSTNK (Customer Purchase order number).
In the view, some join conditions have been defined: VBUK-VBELN = VBAK-VBELN, VBUK-VBLN = VBAP-VBELN.
I want to extract the Sales Order number, Sales order item and Customer Purchase order number for the Sales order created on the previous year.
On the Generic Data Source, I select VBELN (Sales order number) and ERDAT (creation date of sales order) as selection.
However, when I run the extractor checker (RSA3) on this Generic Data Source, the selection does not work at all, i.e.:
eventhough I restricted the Sales order number and/or the creation date of sales order, the generic data source ignores the selection criteria and extract ALL data.
Does anyone ever have similar problem? Did I miss some step in the Generic DAta Source creation? How to fix this problem?

Hi Surya,
If a field (date, progressive document number, timestamp) exists in the extract structure of a DataSource that contains values which increase monotonously over time, you can define delta capability for this DataSource. If such a delta-relevant field exists in the extract structure, such as a timestamp, the system determines the data volume transferred in the delta method by comparing the maximum value transferred with the last load with the amount of data that has since entered the system. Only the data that has newly arrived is transferred.
To get the delta, generic delta management translates the update mode into a selection criterion. The selection of the request is enhanced with an interval for the delta-relevant field. The lower limit of the interval is known from the previous extraction. The upper limit is taken from the current value, such as the timestamp or the time of extraction. You can use security intervals to ensure that all data is taken into consideration in the extractions (The purpose of a security interval is to make the system take into consideration records that appear during the extraction process but which remain unextracted -since they have yet to be saved- during the next extraction; you have the option of adding a security interval to the upper limit/lower limit of the interval).
After the data request was transferred to the extractor, and the data was extracted, the extractor then informs generic delta management that the pointer can be set to the upper limit of the previously returned interval.

I have this excact problem too, Deleting the the app and then reinstalling it won't delete your photos as they are stored on facebooks servers. You will just have to remember you username and password to sign in again. Ever since Facbook bought instagram i have had this problem on my 4S too.

If you don't have a backup, then all your pics/text/notes are gone.
You can sync back music and app. If you were syncing your contacts with a program in itunes, then you'll get that back.
Not sure why you didn't do a backup, especially prior to doing an upgrade.

How to find all the Master data extract structures and Extractors

I intend to create Master data dimensions closely similar to SAP BI in a 3rd party system. I would like to use SAP's standard extractors for populating the master data structures in SAP BI and then use a proprietary technology to create similar structures in a 3rd party database.
Question: How to get a complete list of all Master data extract structures and corresponding extractors?
Example: In ECC if I do SE80 and give 'Package' and 'MDX' and then press the 'display' spectacles, I get a list of structures and views under "dictionary objects" covering Material, Customer, Vendor, Plant Texts and attributes.
How do I get the remainder of the Master data extract structures viz. Purchase Info Records, Address, Org Unit etc?

Hi,
try the table ROOSOURCE and search the data source with string in astrick attr for master data and for text with text
This will give you the list of all the master data source in the system and it contains a column which tells about the extract structure and function module used by each.

Hi Madhu,
Just curious ... if you already have a generic FM extractor then just go into it and find out where it is reading the data from. If its reading data from the CRM system then thre is no need for any BW adapter ... just in case you need any ABAP help ... post here ... I may be of use to you.

Not All RFx Data Extracted to "0BBP_BID" ODS (SRM - Bidding Engine)

I'm now working on an SRM Reporting in SAP BW especially Bidding Engine Reporting. I have installed the Business Content of Bidding Engine and do extraction to the InfoProviders.
The problem is at ODS "0BBP_BID" not all RFx or Bid Invitations data extracted. After I investigate the issue I found out that the data that not extracted is the data with Process Type (RFx Type) Z* (User Defined).
Is there any setting that I have to do so the Process Type "Z*" can be extracted to the ODS?
Please help and give us some solution.

First of all with out having user ID and password it is not possible for bidders to enter SRM system to submit bids. So Business partners have to be created in SRM with contact person(Bidder) details.
You can try one thing. It is just my thought and I dont know how far it will be viable. I never tried.
Create a dummy business partner(vendor) in SRM and create many contact persons ie one for each vendor with their ID/password and email address. Then select all vendors(like receiving multiple bids from same vendor) and send the bid invitation.
Bidders will login and submit the bids. Then buyer will see the bids from all vendors (actually from one vendor but with different contact persons).
Then buyer can decide on the winning bid and then create a business partner for the winning bid and continue with the purchase activities.
With this you can avoid creating many business partners at the time of creating bid invitations.
Other alternative is, if you dont want to create ID and passwords for Bidders then send tender details to all vendors off line via e-mail and ask them to send the price to Buyer offline.

I made a Icloud back up two days ago. I have text messaged and sent emails since. I haven't backed up again yet and I was wondering that if I erase my phone and back up to that Icloud Back up made two days ago, the texts and emails I have sent SINCE then will be permanently deleted? AKA they can never be found again by anyone?

That is correct you can only get back data that was backed up.
