If I already have an XSAN, can I mount it as Windows Server Drive letter?

I am Mac-familiar, but not well-versed in XSAN. If a customer says they have an XSAN, I presume that could be any number of storage devices across multiple platforms, that are organized and managed by XSAN software. Is that a correct analysis?
Can I take that that (or part of that) available storage and make it available to a windows server 2008 environment so it shows up as a mounted drive letter?
Thanks for your assistance!

Your understanding of Xsan is kind of flawed. Xsan is a filesystem that clusters together fiber channel based storage. Xsan doesn't just manage the filesystem, it IS the filesystem. To make a volume be available on another platform/OS, that platform needs to have compatible software to support seeing see the file system on that storage.
Xsan though is based on another product called StorNext by Quantum. They make a cheaper client only version of StorNext for connecting Windows and Linux machines to Apple based Xsans. It's called StorNext FX. You need to purchase a license for this though.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    Hi,
I'm running WebLogic 5.1 sp10 on a Solaris box and I get the

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
    export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
    XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.

i got the tip of passing -Djava.awt.headless=true to vm to disable system graphic calls but after restart weblogic i still get the same error
i am wondering if this case has something to do with jdk 1.3.1, and perhaps newer versions of jdk can take the parameter and operate correctly
    is that right?

is headless option supported in jdk1.3.1?No,
It was added in JDK 1.4:

java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using "Ip" as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
I get the above error when I try to create an instance of the JProgressBar.
I have not been able to create a workaround.
One suggestion that I had was to use the following system command.
    System.setProperty("java.awt.headless","true");
That gave me a null pointer exception.
I also tried setting the compiler parameters to make this process headless, but it did not make any difference.
I am running this code in a Unix environment.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Generally in Unix environment the server should accept the connections from clients. Run the xhost + command on the server to which you are trying to connect and then try your application.

    Bye.

    Hi all,
Thanks a lot for ur reply. It worked me atlast.I have installed JDK1.4 and try to run my program. But it was creating some junk value instaed of creating picture. Actullay my programme needs some third party fonts , it was not loading after i have upgraded. But what i did is , copied the fonts file in to <Java_home>/jre/lib/fonts/ directory. Now it's working fine.
I have done another thing .I am using resin-2.1.0 to serve my JSp pages . So i have added $JAVA_ARGS="-Djava.awt.headless=true"; in wrapper.pl . If u will not add this line then iot will not work for you.
    Thank u once again.
    Bye.

    Hi,
due to the message "X11 window server" I guess that maybe your VC Server a so called "headless server", i.e. some kind of virtual device without a monitor. In this case, you have to set a flag in a configuration file. You will find information on this topic in a SAP Note. Maybe this solves your problem.

You'll probably want to add -Djava.awt.headless=true to JVM's options. If that doesn't work: what is your Java version?
Or if you have a graphics card on the weblogic server, you could experiment with hardware-accelerated Java graphics. But that's another story.

It is not a bug, you might be using IE in Windows server 2012 and and browser might be restricting your site actions to respond properly.
Check this in a different browser or access site in a differ OS.

  • Can I connect to a windows server to veiw and download files to mark and return to server??

Can I connect to a windows server to download and view files and return to server???

I use the FTP on the Go Pro app to do just this. I don't know what kind of servers I connect to though but I've not had any problems connecting.
I connect and select a file. I update the file, then tap save. The file is uploaded back to the server and the original version is ved just in case I might need it.
