If i bought an older Macbook (black) is it possible to upgrade ?
If i bought an older Macbook (black) is it possible to upgrade other components such as processer etc.. or am i stuck with it being unable...matter of fact are there black macbooks i dont want a macbook pro?!?! Thanks
CPU will be soldered directly to the motherboard. About the only things possible to upgrade on any Apple laptop are RAM (if not max'd out) and hard drive.
The current models are listed on www.apple.com (and no black ones anymore, sorry).

I just bought a new MacBook Pro. I managed to transfer everything from my older MacBook Pro to the new one. Both use Snow Leopard, the latest update.
My new one has the newest trackpad, the old one, no.
I'm have big problems using Text Edit on the new laptop--the curser does not go where I want it to go for editing, I cannot get the text to be a clear or as large
as with the older Laptop. Similarly, I cannot find a way to enlarge the menu bar. But the text edit is my biggest problem right now. I have reviewed all the preferences, particularly those in Universal Access, to no avail.
I finally gave up, used dropbox to send the text edit document to my old laptop, and continued with ease. But this is not the way it should work. I bought the
new laptop because the old one is showing signs of age.....
Is there something wrong with Text Edit while using the new trackpad?Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem. Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page. Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.) -

Hi, I bought a refurbished Macbook 4,1 at present it is running Lion 10.7.5( although it is an older machine circa 2008) I would like to transfer everything from my old machine( early intel Macbook Pro) to the newer machine. My older machine runs Mac OS x 10.6.8 and that allows me run some very old software. Should I make a time machine back up?and restore from that or use Carbon Copy Cloner? to transfer everything, the system, applications and data.

Connect the two using a Firewire cable. Boot the newer machine in Target Disk Mode. Boot the older one normally. The disk for the newer machine will appear on the older machines's Desktop.
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select newer machine's hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the newer machine's drive. Source means the internal startup drive. -
Error Code 6 on trying to install a previously bought CS4 from an older Macbook Pro to a new iMac.
Iam trying to install my Photoshop CS4 onto my new iMac that I used on an older Macbook Pro that no longer works but when I try to install it I get an error code 6. Any help is greatly appreciated.

These illustrate what I'm experiencing.
Image #1 - Shows the template file open and the place it is and always has been saved.
When this template is saved DW does not offer to update the site pages that use this template as expected.
So I attempt to update the pages via Modify:Templates:Update Pages and this is where I encounter the 'error -43' message.
You asked for a file. Please be more specific as to what file or files. Presume you'd want the source code in a text file, correct?

I have an older mackbook pro circa 2009, i thought it died on me it just went completely black. I later found out just a bad battery i purchased a new one in the interim. Now that i have discovered the problem i bought an older time capsule and backed up the older macbook i now want to transfer my personal files to my new macbook pro to maintain one personal mackbook. How can i move the files from my time capsule to my newer macbook pro?

How do I get a Mini DisplayPort adapter and HDMI connection working for my Older MacBook Pro?
I bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort adapter and attempted to hook it up on two different tvs using two different HDMI cords. I've always received a "no signal" message. I haven't even been able to get my desktop to appear. My display settings doesn't include a mirroring option and I only have the option to use my computer as a sound output. I've called apple support and I went to geek squad. Is it just impossible for older MacBooks?? I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and all of the forums I've read say that video should work at least. I switched out my adapter for a rocket fish one and still no luck. The geek squad employee couldn't get it to work on either adapters. Please Help!
I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and now it works perfectly. However, I'm getting random green and black splotches on my screen when I'm not using it with the TV.

Within the last hour, I noticed that my older MacBook Pro, while I was using iTunes, lost contrast on the screen. I am sorry, but I did not take exact notes on this event. Around the same time, I did do a back up, uploaded Apple software, etc.
I'm using two MacPros simultaniously, the old one for iTunes, and the new one for the other things. My new one has no problems, so am wondering if there is an easy way to correct the older MacPro's contrast problems. The computer is over three years old, and I'm wondering also if this failure is an aging sign. (I also have other problems, such as a noisy DVD drive, which is part of the reason I bought a new MacBook Pro.)Is the older MBP a pre-Unibody model from early 2008? If so, it could be having this problem:

If so, you would be entitled to a free repair.
The lost contrast could be considered distorted video.
Do you have an external monitor? If the external shows the same lost contrast, the graphics chip is likely the culprit. If the external is OK, then you probably have an issue with the built in display or possibly with its connections.
You may also want to check in Universal Access to see if the contrast bar is set in its normal position (all the way to the left).
Apple has a special test they can run to diagnose the NVIDIA issue, so if you have access to an Apple Store, make an appointment at the genius bar to have it run.

Bad Optical Drive Replaced with a New MacBook Black!

I just wanted to write and let you all know of my 1st experience buying a Mac computer. I needed a laptop, so I
decided on the MacBook. I saw BH Photo had some 1st generation
Macbooks at a decent price, so I took the plunge and bought one.
When it arrived, I tried loading Adobe's Creative Suite software,
however the optical drive keep rejecting the media. So I made an
appointment with an Apple Genius at our local Apple store. To my
surprise, after the Tech confirmed the drive was not working, he
asked me if it would be OK if he just replaced my whole machine. He
brought out a new machine which upgraded me to the 2nd generation
with a 2ghz duo core 2 processor, a full gig a ram, and a 6x
superdrive. Wow!
Well, when I arrived home, I once again went through the whole
process of setting up the machine. This time when I placed a cd in
the optical drive it made a horrible mechanical noise, like it was
taking a bite out it. I couldn't believe my bad luck.
Today, I took it back to the Apple Store, and again the Tech
confirmed there was something wrong with the drive. I really thought
that they would just replace the drive for me since they had already
upgraded my machine for free. However, the Tech asked me if I would
like the top of the line Black MacBook since I had to return a second
time. I couldn't believe it...I really had liked the looks of the
black MacBook, but could not justify paying nearly $200 just for the
black color.
Well, tonight I'm writing to you on my new MacBook Black laptop.
I've got the entire Creative Suite loaded on it along with Lightroom,
and I'm very happy with the performance thus far.
Apple has the best customer service I have ever dealt with...they
just might have won over a new customer for life!
Judgement of a company should not be solely on the mistakes they make, no company is going to be perfect, to me is a much better scale to see what they do about their mistakes...I love my new MacBook Black!

Coincidentally, I've found Apple's customer service is generally pretty good. I had to exchange my week-old Blackbook b/c of a slight seperation of the screen bezel (next to the iSight). They were really up-front "...this shouldn't be doing this...please have a seat, we'll exchange this for you right away...do you need us to transfer your data?" Wow. Not to rant, but this is a lot different than when we were at Best Buy a year ago and my g/f bought her Vaio (she teaches at a high school that is PC-only, no Mac at all). She uses her old G3 Lombard as a spare and it still runs beautifully.
The Vaio had a blemish on the lid (paint defect on the lid...bubbles) that we brought back the same day. No big deal, just want an exchange. The kid-manager-on-duty told us that it was "within manufacturer's specifications....restocking fee...etc." before even looking at it. We told him it wasn't a pixel, but a paint defect, and he could at least look at it before telling us to "pound sand." After a 10min demand for the store manager, they relented and exchanged the Vaio for us. Her Vaio just had an XP re-install this last weekend but is otherwise in excellent shape.
After our expeirence w/ my Macbook exchange (..."have a seat...transfer data..etc.") she bought herself a new Mac Mini and is anxiously awaiting it to arrive.

Wrist Guard That Works with Older Macbook Pro?
I see a lot of wrist guards, but they all seem to only work with the newer Mac Books. Can someone point to a reseller who sells a wrist guard that will work with the older MacBook Pros? Thanks.
I love the stuff at Macstyles (http://www.macstyles.com)... they have Macpads that go on the palmrest area... they are not super simply to put on (gotta make sure to not get air bubbles) but I've put them on 4 machines (as well as back of the screen ones too) and its pretty easy after doing it a couple of times. Might go with a clear one on the older model, and less likely to see any mess ups or tiny air bubbles. On the newer Unibodies with Glossy screens, the solid black looks sooo awesome, matches with the screen and the keyboard.

Then you need to obtain them from the seller. It is illegal (according to Apple) to sell Macs without the system discs that came with it.
You can get replacement System Discs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.

Photoshop CS6 on older MacBook?
I have an older MacBook (the black one) with Intel Core Duo processor running at 2.16GHz, with OS 10.6.8.
This runs Photoshop CS5 absolutely fine, with a very reasonable performance.
I have downloaded the trial for Photoshop CS6, and this warns me about inadequate graphics capability and some functions are disabled, for example the Oil Painting filter.
The specs for CS6 state that compatability with OpenGL 2.0 is required, and I guess this is the problem. The graphics in my MacBook are handled by the built-in Intel GMA 950 chipset, and I don't believe this can run OpenGL higher than about 1.4.
Does anyone know if this is correct, please?

someone was shockingly ignorant, dishonest, didn't understand you needed a program for a mac or, just blundered and didn't really check the box that showed it was for windows.
