If I buy a MacBook Pro now will it update to the new Yosemite in the fall?

If I buy a MacBook Pro now, will it update to the new Yosemite software in the fall?

If you purchase a brand new model, yes. If you purchase an older one, it depends on what the system requirements for Yosemite are, which aren’t publicly available.

when I buy  a macbook pro now , will it have mac os x lion on it?

It would depend on when it was produced, eg if it has been sitting in a store for months it maybe loaded with the older operating system, whereas if it is newly produced it should come with lion on it.

  • If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

Lion will run on most Intel machines. It will not run on the following machines:
MacBook Pro (sold before October 2006)
    MacBook (sold before November 2006)
Mac Mini (sold before August 2007)
    iMac (sold before September 2006)
It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo (or later CPU). Those machines listed above were all Intel Core Duo machines and with the exception of one of the Mac Minis, an Intel Core Solo. So we're talking 4+ year old machines. I have not tested Lion on a machine with anything less than 2GB of RAM.
Wikipedia has a pretty good public summation of what's known so far and it's quite accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion
The biggest thing of note so far is that you cannot install/run Rosetta. Which maybe problematic for some users.

  • If I buy a MacBook Pro Now...

If I buy a MacBook Pro now, OS X Lion is free, can I download free, or I have to pay for it? Please answer my question.

If the MBP does Not come with Lion Installed you would go Here to get it for Free...
    Lion Up to Date

But Hopefully it will come with it already installed...

  • I have an iMac with Microsoft Office and an HD - Time Machine. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I want to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff the Microsof Office will work or if I need to reinstall it with another licence ?

I have an iMac with Microsoft Office (and several other licenced softs) and an HD - Time Machine that backup all the stuff. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I would to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff, the Microsof Office will work normally or if I need to reinstall it with another licence?

You do not need a new license. The license file will be found in /Library/Preferences/ and is named, com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist. Be sure it gets transferred and you will be fine. I see no reason why the file would not be in your Time Machine backup nor any reason why it would be restored.
Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. You may need help figuring out how to restore your current backup to a new machine.

No. Macs cannot run a system that is older than the hardware. You can however pick up a copy of Snow Leopard Server and run it in a virtual machine using Parallels.

I am now currently studying in Switzerland and I would like to buy a macbook pro in USA. So may I ask how much for the shipping fees? Thanks a lot

I'm not so sure if it's possible that Apple ships internationally. Why not just look into getting one in your country that you live in?

  • If i order a macbook pro now will it comes with mountain lion?

i'm thinking of ordering a new macbook pro, just wondering if it will come with the new mountain lion os?

Note, make sure all your software is Mountain Lion compatible according to yesterday's or later reports before purchasing a machine with Mountain Lion included.  You may not be able to downgrade to Lion depending on if the hardware was updated for a new release of the machine post yesterday's date.

  • If I buy a macbook pro second hand, am I able to bring it to the apple store to be reset to factory settings?

I am looking into buying a macbook pro used and there is the chance that it still has a user on it which will stop me from using the computer. Is it possible to bring a used computer into the store to be reset to factory settings? I am a current apple user if that helps.

Unless the Mac has been reformatted (disk erased) the prior owner's admin account would still be setup.
Try to get the original install disc(s) that came with the Mac otherwise you will need to purchase Snow Leopard because at some point you may need to repair the startup disk or reformat the drive.
Snow Leopard is still available from Apple >  Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store.
I doubt Apple will reformat the drive and reinstall OS X for you unless you pay a fee.

    Hi there terri900!
You may want to try configuring your router settings to match the recommended settings for iOS and OS X devices, which can be found here:

  • Should I buy a MacBook Pro now (Jan 2012) considering that a refresh of the MacBook Pro line is imminent? I will be buying the most basic 13 inch MBP and its taken me quite sometime to save up (almost a year!)

I'm not very well off and although I love MacBooks they aren't cheap either, I've been saving up for a long time now and I don't want to regret it if nvidia or ati graphic cards make an appearance in the new macbook pro 13 basics. Advise please!

While you are waiting for the new models to come out you could of been using the one you bought tomorrow all that time.
When Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony, Apple, Whoever comes out with new models they will have different thing in them. Faster lower powered CPUs better graphic faster hard drives or SSDs more memory and maybe a better operating system.
So why not wait 1-2-3-4 years. By then the thing may even wash your back and feet for you.
And they wiil be selling at a premium. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

  • Shall I buy a macbook pro now or wait until June 2013?

I recently fried my 2009 macbook pro with a big cup of the all over the keyboard!
Now I need to buy a new one, I was oriented towards the 2.5GHz, 13", 8GB RAM and 500 GB, non-retina ;I don't need the retina).
What do you guys think? Are the new models going to have a great performance improvement versus these old models?
I mainly use the macbook for video editing and web design, not too much Photoshop. What do you suggest me to do? wait or buy? and if buy, shall I go with the 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 model?
Please keep in mind that I don't buy with the idea of reselling it some day in rhe future..
Thank you all for your kind feedback!
    Cheers,
    matt

If you have a a need for a MBP and the current ones suit you, purchase one.  No one knows, but Apple, when the next MBP generation will be released nor what specifications will be incorporated in them.  To discuss such matters is one of a speculative nature and the Terms of Use of this forum prohibit such.
    Ciao.

  • Should I buy a MacBook Pro now?

I've been thinking about getting a MBP ever since they came out, however I've always been scared to do it because all the problems they have/had. Due to my work I cannot afford not having a laptop for more than a couple of hours, and it'd create a huge problem if i have to send it back to apple to have it fix, because that would mean not having a laptop for at least a week.
Lately I have been trying to find out how the new MBPs are behaving, and it seems like this is the right time to finally get one, however before i take a final decision I would like to know what you (MBP users) think. Should I get one? Have u experienced any problems with your MBP? Should I wait a little bit longer? etc...
    Thank you guys!!!

I sure would not. My MBP was the 11th Mac I've bought for self and kids, and the worst. Problems incude:
Slow internet connect thru Airport Extreme (my PC works fine on it!)
    Runs very hot.
Isync stopped working after one use, and tells me I've got the wrong password.
Several undisclosed software updates that I found only after digging on the internet. (Mac software update says I'm up to date.) These included a supposed Apple fix for problems between Intel chips and Airport! Ir did not help.
I'm sending the machine back (I got it 12/29/06) and waiting until they come up with a more reliable product.)
A sad day, but Mac's software and hardware qualify control are on the decline as they focus on ipod and other products. It's not the old reliable it used to be.

  • I have a older intel MacBook pro, now when I try to start up instead of the apple logo I see a file folder with a question mark. Need some help please.

I have a first gen MacBook pro with intel chip. All of a sudden when I try to start up instead of the apple logo I see a file folder with a question mark. Phone support wasn't much help since it is a older machine. It's either a software issue or the hard drive went. Any ideas on how to fix if it's a software issue would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Thanks I tried that and when I click repair it tells me
    Invalid volume header
    Checking hfs plus volume.
    Invalid b-free node size
    Volume check failed
Error: the underlying task reported faliure on exit.
    1 hfs volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
