If I buy a new hard drive reinstall my OS and Adobe apps, will this count as installing on 2nd comp?

If I buy a new hard drive, or format my current one and reinstall my OS and Adobe apps, will this count as installing on a 'second computer'? If so, how then do I go about ACTUALLY installing the apps on a second computer if I'm unable to 'de-register' the 'first' one because it was on an old hard drive?

TheTx,
Yes! you can simply go ahead and deactivate the product before wiping your hard drive. This would simply reset the counter back to 0 and you will be able to activate the product on the new machine as well .

Just user to user....based on past and current history, Adobe Tech Support is not going to help you with a technical issue which is preventing you from using your purchased serial number for Photoshop Elements. Version 12 is not the current version. And, the Adobe Tech Support is limited even for the current version which is 13. If this matter involves a purchased activated serial number trapped on a crashed computer while you are trying to install on a 3rd computer, then probably Adobe Chat Activation can be of assistance. If that is the case and you want to explore that possibility, then click on the following link
    Contact Customer Care
    Photoshop Elements
    Adobe ID, Signing In
Adobe ID, Sign In, Account Help
    Chat Panel
If the above link does not hold its set, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the above titles as guides.
Are you getting one of those "too many computers with your serial number" messages? Then the above should apply to your situation.
    Before the above consider....
    a. For Photoshop Elements technical issues please post your question in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum. Somehow your
question got posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum.
    b. Have you verified your Photoshop Elements serial number at the Adobe web site (http://www.adobe.com) - after signing in with your
Adobe ID and Password, type My Products in the Search field and follow the path to your product in My Products. Click on Adobe
Photoshop Elements 12 in your list to reveal the serial number.
    c. Do the install with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

When I try to install ios lion the installer says my hard drive has SMART errors and that I need to buy a new Hard Drive, but my computer witch has snowleprd and runs just fine.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

  • Advice about buying a new hard drive

I have a TOSHIBA Satellite L25-S1216. I have not been able to boot into Windows XP for 3 years using the factory Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD and the Fully Recover procedure on the back of the DVD packae. I have been using Linux for the past 3 years. Ubuntu SMART test disk utility tells me I have 20 bad hard drive sectors. I have concluded I should buy a new hard drive, since mine has 20 bad sectors. My current hard drive is ATA-6, so I know I need a PATA compatible hard drive. I'd like to increase to maybe 60 GB from the current 40 GB. I'd also like to go with a solid state drive, but there don't appear to be many PATA compatible solid state drives.
And I don't want to get too complicated or expensive; I want to stay with my current Windows XP. Not sure if a SATA PATA interface adapter would work to allow me to use a SATA solid state hard drive or not. I know (from reading knowledge base posts) there is also the potential problem of the older BIOSs not recognizing the newer Advanced Drive Format drives.
QUESTION: Does anybody have any advice about buying a hard drive that would work for me? How can I be reasonably sure a hard drive I buy is compatible with my computer?
    Thank you,
    Bob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

either get a pata drive (you can get larger than the stock 40gb) or use your $ towards a more current new/used laptop.  pata ssd would be a waste and I doubt adapter would work.  also, ms is dropping support for xp so it would be a good time to upgrade to something with a more current os as well.

You need at least 10.6.7 installed. If that's the case, since you didn't indicate anything, update to 10.6.8, launch the App Store.app in /Applications, and click on the Redeem link.

  • Want to buy a new hard drive

Sorry if this is a repeat of a question I asked earlier but I can't find it in communities. I have late 2008 Mac Pro that I recently bought used and want to upgrade it. Thru other discussions I have figured out that my hard drive is dying. I have nothing to lose on this system and want to start fresh with new hard drive that might even be better than the original. My system info is:
    Mac Pro 3,1
    Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor speed: 2.8 ghz
    2 processors
    8 cores
L2 cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 4GB
    BUs Speed: 1.6 GHz
    Boot ROM version: MP31.006C.B05
I want to know what hard drive I can purchase to maximize this desk top. I want replace the graphics card so that I can use it as a desk top flight simulator. I know nothing about purchasing hard drives and would appreciate every bit of information anyone can give me. I have a blank canvas here and really want to make it as good as possible.
    Thank you in advance.

  • New Hard Drive, Mac partition cloned and boots fine, but I can't seem to get my BOOTCAMP (windows) partition to boot!  Any ideas?

    Hello all!
I got a new hard drive for my Mac Book Pro and an enclosure so I could clone the old partitions on to the new drive.
    So I...
Put the new hard drive in the enclosure.
Booted up off an install disk and ran disk utility.
Copied the Mac and Bootcamp partitions over to the new drive that was connected VIA USB.
Turned off the computer, took the old hard drive out and put it in the enclosure.
Put the new hard drive in the Mac Book Pro.
Booted into Mac OSX with no problem.
When I rebooted held down the option key to boot into the windows side, it didn't show up as an option.
When I went back into the Mac side, I loaded Disk Utility and saw that I had the Mac partition, the BOOTCAMP partition, and a bunch of unallocated space.  When I went into the System Preferences and set the target boot drive to the BOOTCAMP partition and restarted, I got some crazy error about there not being any bootable info on it.
That's where I am at.  I have found other posts with people who are having the same problem, but I have yet to find a solution that doesn't involve me buying some 3rd party software.  I know it has something to do with (what is called in Microsoft world) the Master Boot Record, but I don't know how to modify that to reflect that the BOOTCAMP partition is a bootable logical drive.  I remember in MS DOS land there was some command line FDSK /something command that you would run (I think it was /MBR) to reset the MBR.  To me though, all of these terms are shadowy figures in the Ether.
    What do I do???
    -Ricardo
p.s.  I read somewhere to boot off the windows 7 disk and run the system repair tools. I tried that and no change.

I got it. It CAN be done. At least on 10.6
How I made it happen (for free) on Snow Leopard:
    1) partition, dupe etc all that jazz that you know. Make the mac side work, which it seems we've all been able to do no issues. I used SuperDuper! It worked just fine. (Had it on a disk. I assume you could use any other free way of doing this.)
    2) New hard drive running, I used bootcamp assistant to partition the new drive for a new Bootcamp. I don't know if it's necessary to make the new partition this way for some reason, but it's what the process ultimately included, so maybe try without, but it worked with.
    3) Natively running original drive on the windows side. Used DirveImage XML to clone windows partition onto new drive connected externally.
    4) Back on new hard drive running natively. (Sorry for all the switching.) You'll note that the new Bootcamp partition is NOT bootable at this point. It won't come up in the usual 'alt on startup' boot menu.
Download rEFInd and install on mac side. Technically this is freeware or w/e, but for the love of god, throw money at this man. He totally deserves it.
    5) Restarting the computer, rEFInd's boot manager finally recognizes windows. But you'll find windows is a little messed up and still won't quite boot. Get out your Windows CD and pop it in. Do the 'alt boot' thing. Your boot menu options are now "EFI Manager," "Bootcamp," and "Windows Disk." Or some such. Holy Crap! It recognizes Windows!
    6) Boot to the CD and tell it to repair the windows volume. It will. My computer also had to do a disk check next time I booted to Windows, which took for-stupid-ever, but eventually worked. (I went to bed in between.)
    7) Everything is running smoothly. Plus, you get the rEFInd boot manager, which is also great.
Deets: I have a late 2010 MBP 13". Snow leopard/Windows 7 32-bit (long story) Moved from original 320GB seagate momentus to new 750GB Seagate Momentus XT.
Feel free to share/copy&paste this solution as you see useful. Cheers!

  • I have a G5 with a brand new hard drive, when I try and install the os I get a panic we are hanging error. What can I do to load the os

I Get a panic we are hanging error when trying to install the os on a new hard drive on a G5

Yes, the hard drive needs to be formatted and OS X must then be installed.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Proceed with the OS X installation.
It's only a lost cause when nothing else works.

If you want to use Time Machine to recover the contents of one of its a backups to a new drive, follow the instructions in Mac OS X 10.6: Recovering your entire system. Note that you must select the "Restore System From Backup" option from the Utilities menu of the Installer disc to do this.
Also note that if you are transferring files to a hard drive to be used with a different computer, you should use Migration Assistant instead. This intentionally will not copy everything because some settings, applications, etc. are not compatible computer-to-computer. Migration Assistant will copy everything that is.

I just got a new hard drive installed in my Mac Book Pro.  It doesn't have Numbers and Pages as an included app.  How do I get those w/o having to pay the $40 app fee?

If you previously downloaded them from the Mac App Store or associated them with an Apple ID, log into the Mac App Store with that Apple ID and download them from the Purchases tab.
If you got them on an iWork DVD or with a Mac that originally shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, install them from DVD.
If you got them with a Mac that originally shipped with 10.7 or newer but didn’t associate them with an Apple ID, click here.

  • NEW HARD DRIVE - FANS RUNNING LOUD AND RED LIGHT

I've just installed another hard drive in the lower bay of my G5 1.8. I took one drive out and inserted the new one, leaving the original hard disk with the operating system on where it was.
As soon as I pressed the "on" button the machine powered up but with the fans on very loud and a red light on inside the machine.
The G5 starts up fine. The new hard drive is recognised.
Any ideas what's gone wrong as it wasn't behaving like this before?
    Thanks in anticipation

Hi gravenors, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
You could try checking that the clear plastic air deflector has been replaced correctly.
If it seems to be in place, but the fan and red LED are still on, please post again - as there are further things to try.
