If you restore from your last backup, it will replace what you now have on your phone. If you set it up as new, you will have a phone just out of the box without any of your data on it. You can download any apps again. You can sync your music through iTunes.

To sync contacts to your new iPhone you want to first
1: Connect iPhone 3G to computer with the latest version of iTunes (11.0.4.)
2: From there click under the device summary and look for your iPhone.
3: You should be on a page that should say summary on the top part of your phone where it'll say "Summary, info, music, applications, etc.
4: Click on Info and then you should see a box where you can put a check mark next to the words, "Sync Contacts."
5: Sync your contacts
Option 2:
1: Go to the summary page as described above and make a backup of your iPhone 3g onto your iTunes
2: connect your iPhone 5 and then open up the summary page
3: ON the summary page you want to click on "Restore backup" and select the backup you JUST made today (check the time stamp)
4: THis should put all your contacts, pictures, and settings from your old phone onto your new phone with no issues

Your phone has entered recovery mode. You will need to connect it to a computer with iTunes and restore it to factory settings. Hopefully you have a backup (either iTunes or iCloud) to restore from.

You can't buy a new iPhone in the US without a plan. Even if you could buy one, it would not work (even as an iPod) until activated with a cell phone provider. You would have to buy a used iPhone that had been activated. Be sure to get a US model (or one for your country if you aren't in the US). Check the part numbers in the right column of

to make sure it is the correct version for your country.
An officially unlocked one from one of the countries that sell them would also be OK, but any repair would have to be done in its original country. It would have to have been activated in some country, also.

That's right. The 4S is still in production. Unless you can find one that's been on the shelf for quite some time, it will come with iOS 7. The longer you wait, the less likely it becomes that you would be able to find one with iOS 6.

I feel as though I am forced into repairing the iphone before I can backup the information (photos, videos, contacts). If the apple ID on the device is the same as the one on my iMac I do not understand why I have to unlock the iphone by typing in the 4 digit passcode. This is a little ******** as having the screen break seems to be the usual prpblem with the iphone, I want to be able to backup my files when I feel the obvious need to do so (eg. when it breaks)! Okay folkes, you were right and I was wrong.. I admit it. But I was pretty mad though when I tryed to backup the last few contacts I needed for work and couldn't do so. Worst things are when something gets broken (by me or whatever) when there is an emergency. I needed the contacts off of that phone real fast and couldn't do it, thats what got me real mad. And btw I am a Russian living in Moscow and instead of having an official Apple store we have shopes called ReStore who resell apple devices with ridiculous prices, same thing with the repairs. I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more. I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.

Legality aside (I'm not a lawyer and have no opinion on the matter) in order to make a purchase of an iPhone 5 you would need to travel to a country where they are for sale and purchase it there. Be sure to get one that is officially unlocked or you would not be able to use it with your cell carrier. Be sure that your carrier supports use of the iPhone before you buy. Also note that the warranty of the iPhone is only valid in the country of purchase.
Appe does not ship outside of the countries where it sells the phones.

What have you tried to fix it ? If you haven't already done so then see if any of the following fix it :
- log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in
- close the iTunes store app via the multitasking bar and see if it works when you re-open it : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the iTunes store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
- soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

If the store you're dealing with offer this you could buy the phone and go through the setup process. You'll soon learn what version of the iOS is installed.
Given that, i would add that it is not wise to continue running iOS 6 when there are no own security flaws. iOS 7 solves those problems and adds the activation lock to prevent thieves from activating your phone should it be stolen or you lose it somehow.

4. The iPhone does NOT have an international warranty.It breaks you are stuffed.
5. The US models do NOT support all European LTE frequencies .None support the Band 7 (2600mhz) frequency being deployed by many European Mobile networks.
6. Buy locally if you want all functionality warranty support and when taxes are included the prices are pretty much the same anyway.
