If I buy an upgrade phone online, Does it have to be activated? What Will happen to my old phone?

Okay. So My mother's phone is eligible for an upgrade and I won't get one for another year. My Galaxy S Stratosphere won't work at all. I need a new phone.
If we order the Galaxy S3 online with her upgrade, Do we have to activate it on her plan?
Once It gets here, I could just put my 4G LTE Sim card (Verizon) In it and it would work.
But would My mother's phone still work for her??? She has a basic phone but we are on a Share everything Plan so I don't think It would affect her data...
Help?? I need to know if my plan would work at all.

You can use your mother's upgrade eligible line to purchase the S3 at a discount. Her contract will be extended for 2 years. It MAY need to be activated briefly on her line, or you can accept the terms and conditions and activate it to your line without involving hers - it depends on how you make the purchase (online or in-store, and what type of store - corporate or third party or authorized reseller).
In any case your Mom can continue to use her phone on her line.

If the store setup the phone with an Apple ID/Password, that is not yours, & turned on Find My Phone, then you will need that Apple ID/Password to re-activate the phone. Called Activation Lock. Read here:

Acer Predator running win 8.1 which I wish to upgrade to win 10. What will happen to recovery discs?

I have a two year old Acer Predator with Win 8.1 installed. I wish to upgrade to Win 10 but I'm concerned about what will happen if I get a hard drive failure at some point. Will I need to pay for another set of recovery discs? Or will I have to install Win 8 from the discs I already have, then upgrade to 8.1, then to Win 10?

if your HDD will die, you can use your windows 8 recovery disk and then upgrade to 10 without passing by 8.1but.....i can suggest an easy way. If you are asking what happens when you delete an iCloud backup, it only deletes the backup from your account. It won't do anything to the data on your phone or in your iCloud account. If you don't need to backup you can delete it. (If you no longer want to back up your phone to iCloud, turn iCloud backup off in Settings>iCloud>Backup. Then your phone will back up to your computer each time you sync it with iTunes.)

I support a very large school district currently running Firefox 3.6. What will happen at end of life date? We're in the middle of online testing this week.

I run the test center for a very large school district with over 120k students. We've got a current deployed base of 54k client machines using Firefox 3.6. We haven't upgraded due to multiple reasons, the most important of which is removing the possibility of using In Private Browsing from the students, and dealing with plugin-updates for the non digital natives (read dumber than a bag of hammers users) that make up the majority of the client base.
We're testing ESR now, but just found out that end of life for 3.6 is tomorrow, 4/24. We are currently in the middle of statewide online testing. The question is, what will happen tomorrow when the browser goes end of life. The ESR wiki mentions that "an update to the current version of Desktop Firefox will be offered through the Application Update Service"
So the main question is, are my students/teachers going to get a popup telling them they have to update the browser if we have the updates already turned off? If so, can I turn it off remotely using SCCM, because it will cause all kinds of havoc.
Please advise asap, and thanks in advance.

We had to do some serious gymnastics to remove at least most of the ability to use IPB. We removed it from the gui, but unfortunately, if they know the hotkey, they can still bring it up. Security has some serious headaches with this, as by law they have to be able to track where students go, and going with private browsing removes their ability to do forensic work they're required to be able to do. Not a very well thought out feature from Mozilla in my opinion, but it is what it is. Successive versions have made it even more difficult to remove even the gui portion.
We do plan to release ESR due to the aforementioned security issues, but testing has been slow.

You can buy and install the hard drive you want to. However, on Late 2009 and newer iMacs the temperature sensor is in the hard drive, so if you replace it with a hard drive that has not got a temperature sensor you will have serious fan problems.

I've got an iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.3, and also have my reservation in to get the iPhone 4 on Thursday. In light of lots of people talking about performance troubles with iOS 4.0 on the iPhone 3G, I'm thinking I might skip the upgrade.
Normally, when I've gotten new iPhones, I do a full backup right before I go to the Apple Store, and then when I get home I plug the new phone in and let it restore all of my data. But, what will happen when I plug in my iPhone 4 if my 3G backup has everything coming from a 3.1.3 image? Is it going to end up "downgrading" my iPhone 4 to iOS 3.1.3, forcing me to then run an OS upgrade? Is the restore going to outright fail?
Wondering if I don't just need to bite the bullet and upgrade my iPhone 3G to make Thursday that much easier...

Try telling us exactly what version of iTunes is installed and what if any messages appears when trying to update it.
