  • Vodafone USB Modem Stick - if I buy it in Italy, can I use it elsewhere?

I have been wrestling for a while now with the problem of how best to access the Internet, via my MacBook, while in Italy, where we have a holiday home.
I called in at the local Vodafone shop (in the town of Pergola, Pesaro-Urbino, Marche region). The guy there told me that I could buy a USB modem for 99 Euro, but he wasn't sure whether I would get a signal at my home, up in the hills behind the town. Now I can get a signal on my mobile phone there (with a UK Vodafone account).
I then came home and enquired about the USB modem at a UK Vodafone shop, to be told it could not be purchased outright (as it can in Italy), but only as part of an 18-month contract. As I would hardly be using it in the UK it makes no sense to pay the exorbitant fees that using it in Italy would involve.
So I'm left with the dilemma: should I shell out the 99 Euros for a dongle in Italy , presuming that I can use it anywhere that Vodafone Italy have coverage (maybe even my home there!)? And if I ever wanted to, could I use it back in the UK?
Any advice or suggestions from Mac-using dongle people would be welcome!

You need to check carefully with the local rules because the issue is not one of technical matters but policy.
First of all, the card will absolutely work. No doubt about it.
However, if it was purchased in Italy, it will have an Italian phone number associated with it (yes, even though it's not used as a phone it still has a phone number). When you use it in the UK it would be just the same as using a Italian-purchased cellphone in the UK with the same burdens of roaming charges, etc.
The situation may be worse with the data card because many wireless carriers place additional restrictions on data usage in addition to phone minutes and text messages. You may find that the Italian plan allows for, say, 5GB of data transfer per month, but only 10MB roaming data with a charge of €10/MB.
At that point the question is not whether it will work (it will), but whether you can afford to run it.

Yes and No.  yes for sharing music and apps.  No for icloud/facetime/imessage - she should get her own id for that.

  • If i buy a Cellular iPad mini 3 in USA can I use it in the UK?

If i buy a Cellular iPad mini 3 in USA can I use it in the UK?
Could I use a UK SIM card in the UK after buying a cellular iPad in the USA?

Apple does not take trade-ins. In a few countries Apple does work with a company who will give you some return on an existing device; for the US, see:
    http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/
Similar programs are available in a few other countries, and some dealers may have their own trade-in programs. But you most probably can get more for your device if you sell it yourself.
    Regards.

  • I'm thinking of buying an iPad.  Can I use my home's wifi or do I need to get a plan for it?

I'm thinking of buying an iPad.  Can I use my home's wifi or do I need to get a plan for it?

Another thing to note is that if your cell plan/carrier supports it (it's free with Verizon Shared plans), you can also use your mobile phone as a mobile hotspot (Personal Hotspot on iOS devices) and use your phone's data to access the internet on the iPad. I purchased an iPad 3 with Verizon 3G/4G cellular built-in but have never activated it. I instead use Personal Hotspot with my Verizon Wireless cellular (phone) plan. If you go this route, you can save money over purchasing a Wi-Fi/Cellular iPad and just choose the Wi-Fi model. But also realize that if you choose to at some point to use the iPad when you're away from Wi-Fi, you won't have the built-in cellular capability that a Wi-Fi/Cellular iPad would have.

  • If i buy an iphone in Australia and it is unlocked, can i use it in the uk with a uk sim?

if i buy an iphone in Australia and it is unlocked, can i use it in the uk with a uk sim?

Depends on model for LTE(4G) see this list
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
As long as you buy direct from an Apple Store is should not be carrier locked and will work on 3G and if say an iPhone 6 then 4G as well
    HOWEVER
You will not have warranty or post warranty service in UK for a Australian sourced iPhone ,the warranty is NOT international

  • If I buy a iPad online with cellular and wifi can I use it outside the United States both cellular and wifi?

If buy a iPad online do the cellular plan come lock to a single provider, or can be use with any provider?
If I buy on the USA store can I use it outside the USA?

Read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_devices  it lists available models of ipad and under connectivity it mentions what features each has.  Make sure that what you choose is compatible for use in US and whatever other country you want

  • I am from argentina and i want to buy an iPhone 5s, but in my country i can only use it if the phone is unlocked , i want to know if i buy one of t mobile with no contract and i travel to mi country ( internationaly) i can use it with a sim from argentina

You should go onto the Tmobile web site and look around. Very soon a pop up window will ask you if you want to chat. You can try asking for someone who knows Spanish (if you prefer), they might have someone available who can chat with you in Spanish.
I give this suggestion because I remember on the Tmobile website, you can order on line, but they let you choose to pay only a little money up front, then pay off the rest over 24 months, or you can choose to pay for it in full. However, their ordering process does not say whether the paid for in full phone is going to be unlocked or not.
It may not be, You may have to make a request and say that since you have paid in full please unlock. I am not so sure that a paid for in full phone is automatically sold in unlocked state.
This is why I suggest you talk to Tmobile to get a definite answer.
Unless someone else on this forum knows for sure? Hope someone else jumps in to answer. But the best way is to ask for yourself directly from Tmobile.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Read the system requirements for the programs you listed. Match them against the specifications of the machine you propose to buy. The more RAM the better, your hard drive size requirements and video card specicications may require the upgraded, not base, model or may eliminate the MBA as a platform.

  • HT4341 If I buy a mac in Canada can I use it in the UK?

It I buy a Mac in Canada can I use it in the UK?

    For the most part, yes.
Your Mac will run on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz so you will not need a voltage converter. But, you will need an AC adapter to fit the UK wall plug.
The UK does use channels 1-13 for Wi-Fi and Canada 1-11, so if you try to connect to a network that is using Channel 12 or 13, you will not be successful.

  • If I buy a Canadian iPhone can I use a British SIM card I.e. O2

If I buy a Canadian iPhone can I use a British SIM card I.e. O2

You must get an unlocked phone from Apple. You will not have access to 4G or LTE systems. Your warranty will only be valid in Canada. You will have to pay any import or duty fees. Why not buy a phone in Britain?

  • I recently upgraded to a 5s.  my clock radio iPhone plug in was compatible with my iPhone 4.  Is there an attachment I can buy so that I can still use my clock/radio?

I recently upgraded to a 5s.  My clock/radio iPhone plug in was compatible with my iPhone 4 so I could listen to Pandora.  Is there an attachment I can buy so that I can still use my clock/radio?

There are 30-pin to Lightning adapters, but I would be afraid it would put the phone too high up and risk damage. I would contact the radio company to see if they offer a unit that has a lightning connector.

  • If I buy an iphone in USA can I use it in the UK with my UK provider Virgin Mobile

If I buy an iphone in USA can I use it in the UK with my UK provider Virgin Mobile

It is advisable to purchase the phone in the country you intend to use it.
    1)  You will have Warranty...
    2)  your phone will work as expected.
    3)  Unless Purchased Directly from Apple as an UNLOCKED device, the iPhones will be Locked to a US Carrier.. usually for a 2 year contract period.

  • Can you use IMAP with the ipads mail feature?

Can you use IMAP with the ipads mail feature?

    Kappy,
Yes, our domain and email accounts are on a server that does accept IMAP. Also, our mac mini and imacs are all set up for IMAP. Buying an ipad will enable me to work from home during this winter.
Another ?: do you know if you can use text edit with the iPads mail feature? Reason being we have about 100 generic emails that all we have to do is change a few fields before sending out. Can this be integrated in without having to recreate all these messages?
