Sorry, thats wrong. I just installed iOS 8.1 and got an error saying that it requires 5,6 GB of free space, but I have only 2,6 Gb free space in my iCloud Account.
You will need to pay in order to use iCloud Photo Library in order to use it for a huge collection of photos. 5GB is not very much.
Edit: I though you were talking about iCloud photo library.. I got that wrong. -

There are always a few problems with a new OS. Apple can't police every maker of crapware that's on the planet.
If you have a WD external drive, I would transfer (not clone) the files from it to another non-WD external drive that doesn't have crapware on it, and then erase the WD drive, and then never ever again buy a WD drive.
You will find many posts on the Apple Discussions from disgruntled narcissists (a few borderlines too) who blame Mavericks for their computer problems.
Mavericks is excellent (at least for me).
Every new OS has some incompatibilities with older software. That's why if someone is an early adopter, they should understand this, and if they have a low tolerance for frustration, or are uncomfortable with basic mac maintenance and troubleshooting, they should not be an early adopter.
Seems like the vast majority of problems that people complain about on the forums are related to crapware they have acquired on their computers from previous installations and promiscuous downloading habits. -

on you iphone click icloud in settings
then
account and at the very bottom of the page it says my plan will be replaced and the date and the amount.
i will also able to check my payment info so I wouldn't be billed repeatedly after clicking so many times

Hi, I am trying to buy more iCloud Storage but the storage is not being increased, and there is no error message. My iTunes Balance is not being decreased, and I tried several times. My iTunes Account has a Gift Card and there is no Credit Card entered. Can this be the problem? If so, will it work with non-US Credit Cards?

Sometimes it does. However, adding more iCloud storage doesn't give you any more space on your phone if that's what you're trying to do. To create more space on your phone, you have to delete of sync something off of it. You could, for example, you could delete all your music, then perform the update, then sync your music back to your phone using iTunes.
