If I Buy Mountain Lion OS can I install it to my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air?

I'm planning to buy Mountain Lion OS.
Now I want to know if I can install it to my Macbook Pro and to my Sister's Macbook Air?

You can install it on any computer you own...
Providing the System Requirements are met...
Install Mountain Lion on multiple Computers
Log into App Store on your other Computer(s), being sure to use the Apple ID that Originally purchased ML...
Do you really want to give your sister your Apple ID... ML is only $20... Think about it...

  • When installing mountain lion on my computer, why does it say "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired."

I'm unable install mountain lion on my computer. Every time it says "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again." So I press the only button listed as an option, it restarts, and the same screen comes up again. I can't make mountain lion go away...I've tried many times. What is wrong with my computer? It's stuck like this and I can't even get snow leopard back on there if I wanted to because I can't get away from the same screen. Please help : (

Insert your OS installer disk in the optical drive. Power the Mac down by holding down the power button. Then power back up and hold down the 'c' key so the MBP boots to the installer disk. From Disk Utility you should do a Repair Disk. If DU successfully repairs the disk quit the installer and reboot your Mac. You should update to 10.6.8 prior to upgrading to ML.

Then do your ML upgrade install.

  • Purchased Mountain Lion, but can't install on Mavericks OS...Paid for but Can't install

Purchased Mountain Lion, but can't install on Mavericks OS...Paid for but Can't install

You can't install an older OS over a newer one. So you'll get a message saying you can't install ML until you erase the drive.
I'm presuming you already have the full Mountain Lion installer on your drive.
Download DiskMaker X. Use it, the ML installer, and an 8 GB flash drive to create your own bootable ML installer. Boot to the flash drive when it's ready. From there, you'll get the same minimal work screen as when you boot into Recovery Mode. Use Disk Utility to erase the drive, then install Mountain Lion. Restore your personal data.

  • Buy Mountain Lion on friends mac, install on my wiped MBP?

Can I buy Mountain Lion on a friends computer under MY apple id and install it to a completely wiped mac book pro? I would do it by using the wireless download/install when lion in bought under my apple id (if that is possible). When I run reinstall it asks for mountain lion and my snow leopard cd will not work regardless of attempts.

You said that he is running Leopard, and the App Store needs Snow Leopard, so he has to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
First, open  > About this Mac and check Version. If it's 10.6, he has Snow Leopard, so he doesn't have to purchase it. Check if the computer is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade.
The disc will install 10.6.3, so go to  > Software Update to update to 10.6.8, which has the App Store, so login with your Apple ID and purchase Mountain Lion. Note that you will only be able to purchase Mountain Lion if his Mac is compatible > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Also, he can't use the Mountain Lion copy that you downloaded onto it because it's registered to your Apple ID

  • HT5167 can`t install it on Apple MacBook Pro and Apple Air, Why

Update 10.7.4 don`t let install on Mac Book Pro and also on Apple Air

If installing on 10.7.2, 10.7.1, or 10.7.0, you need to use the Combo update. If installing on 10.7.3, you can use the Delta update form Apple's website or Software Update application on the same Mac.  You can't use the Delta update from Software Update application on another Mac on your Mac unless they are identical model and vintage. If installing on 10.6.8 or earlier, you must pay for 10.7 Mac App Store, or use a 10.7 installer USB stick first before applying it to your machine.  Note: 10.7 does not support Rosetta.  For other 10.7 pitfalls read this tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
Make sure all your software and hardware is ready for 10.7.4 before installing, and backup your data at least twice before installing, and disconnect the backup from your machine before installing.

  • Can Macbook Pros (and Macbooks) boot off of USB drives?

I know that you cannot boot off of USB drives in iMacs, but is that the case for Macbook Pros and Macbooks too? I have Ubuntu installed on a 16 GB usb drive and was wondering if it is possible to boot to that usb drive. I cannot simple Boot camp or just dual boot my own way because it is a school computer that they lend me for the year.

I know that you cannot boot off of USB drives in iMacs
That's only the case for some PowerPC Macs. It doesn't apply to any Intel Mac, including MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

  • I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • I use MB pro with Lion OSX 10.7.5 and Now I have bought MB Air with Mountain Lion,Can I transfer my MB Pro stuff running Lion to MB air running Mountain Lion or do I need to buy Mountain Lion for my Pro to create a backup and then transfer ,thnx

I use MB pro running Lion OSX 10.7.5 and Now I have bought MB Air with Mountain Lion,Can I transfer my MB Pro stuff running Lion to MB air running Mountain Lion or do I need to buy Mountain Lion for my Pro and create a backup and then transfer ,Although I want Mountain Lion for my MB Pro but can I use the one from MB Air,thnx?

    Hello,
If you just do a normal time machine backup on your macbook pro and then plug that harddrive into your new air; you should be able to just use migration assistant to transfer all your files. You wouldnt need to upgrade to mountain lion on your macbook pro.
    Hope it helps,
    Ryan

  • I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15 2.3Ghz which is currently on OS mountain lion. Can I upgrade it to OS Maverciks when it is released?

I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15 2.3Ghz which is currently on OS mountain lion. Can I upgrade it to OS Maverciks when it is released?

I realized I still had this as an open question, so I thought I would follow up. By calling around, I was able to locate a Macbook Pro that still had ILife 09, so I bought that.
But then I found out I could actually continue on with Ilife 08, but just wiping the new computer and reinstalling the first disc (system) but not the second one (ilife). So then when I used a Time Machine backup from my old computer to migrate to the new one, it simply continued on with O8. This made me even happier as I really was trying to avoid Faces in iPhoto 09.
Thank you for the input (I did read it back when you posted it; I just did not realize I needed to "close" the question.)

  • If I buy OSX Lion now can I get Mountain Lion later next month for free?

    Any idea?

    Only on a new Mac.
In simple terms, you either need:
A qualifying 10.7 Mac purchased on June 11, 2012 to 10.8's release date, then you have 30 days afterwards to upgrade to 10.8 for free.
Bought a qualifying new 10.7 Mac on or after the 10.8 release date which you then have 30 days to request a free 10.8 upgrade.

  • Can I buy mountain lion in another Macbook computer, and then Re install it in mine?

Can I buy mountain lion in another Macbook computer, and then Re install it in mine?
I'm stock in the re install mode of the Mountain Lion system and I obviosly didn't buy it for this Macbook, and I was wondering if I can purchase Mountain Lion in on of my friends Macbook, and then install it in mine, with my apple ID of course. Thank you.

Well, I can check with mine when it need to be updated and then I can signed with my ID again on his mac to update it, right? Just wondering if it's not going to create any conflicts with other software's, specially with iCloud and iTunes, because of his iPhone and iPad.
    Thanks for the answer.
