If i buy my macbook pro with a flash memory will i get instant on like the macbook air?
If i buy a macbook pro with a flash memory will i get the instant on feature like the macbook air?
Almost, if you up your memory to 8GB or even 16GB (for around $80) AND use the SSD (solid state drive)((flash memory)) it should be an "instant on" sort of setup.
A pretty cheap way to go I must say. Only a couple hundred extra to be such a fast computer.

I've never turned on my new macbook pro but I want to exchange it for the new Macbook pro with retina display. Is this possible. I have the receipt. Box was opened.
No - you have 14 days from date of purchase to exchange or get a refund. That should have been on your receipt somewhere.
I'm afraid that you're just going to have to sell your computer, somehow, and put that money towards a new one.
Why in the world did you buy what you didn't want?

I was planning on buying a new 13 inch MacBook Pro with 512 GB memory and 8GB RAM. The main purpose for this purchase Is to be able to run Final Cut Pro anywhere I want to. Should I upgrade to 16 GB of RAM with the added expense and wait time or is that overkill?
8GB should be plenty . . . though as with most things in life, it all depends on exactly what you are doing. If you intend to edit long, highly complex projects loaded with effects and multicam clips you can't get enough RAM.
For over 3 years, I and many others, have been using 4GB with no problems. -
Every time I try to back up my Macbook Pro with an external hard drive using Time Machine, I receive the error of "the disk does not have enough space". I have a 500GB external hard drive and only 120GB Macbook. It worked fine before the latest Maverick's update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My guess would be it has created an entirely new backup of your drive when you upgraded to Mavericks.

Hi. I have a MacBook Pro with OS10.6.8 and cannot get internet pages to load on my WiFi network at home. My iMac, iPhone and iPad all work on this network. It is connected to the net as dropbox registers a connection and so does skype. I can connect to the WiFi in work and on other networks when travelling. However, some other networks are now starting to fail. Can anyone suggets how I can fix it, as the MBP appears to be fine, its updated with all the latest versions of software and the WiFi network is also fine....just not with my MBP??

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS10.8.2 and cannot get Contacts to print a list of addresses with pictures showing. There is a check box selecting "picture" which has been checked - but no picture. This worked fine on OS10.7.5. Problem??
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -

I've got the Macbook Pro with leopard, if i want to get Lion for it, do i have to get snow leopard first? i don't have a mac app store!
Ian, this might help explain it a bit more:
http://osxdaily.com/2011/06/07/mac-os-x-10-7-lion-system-requirements/
It's only available from the store, and you need 10.6.6 to access the store. But if you can download it using 10.6.6 on another machine, you'll be able to install it on a machine meeting the hardware requirements (it doesn't matter which OS was installed on it). -

will I get further updates if I buy macbook pro without retina
I do not know what you mean by that. Any currently produced Mac is likely to be supported for as long as every other Apple product that has ever been produced. Most Apple products are relegated to "vintage" status approximately six years after which they are discontinued by Apple, meaning that the non-Retina MBP is likely to be supported through 2020. -
2011 i7 Macbook Pro with Windows 7 SP1, can't get it to work
2.2 GHz Macbook Pro 2011 17 inch
OCZ Vertex 3
Mac OS X 10.6.8
2nd HD instead of optical drive
I bought a downloadable version of Windows 7 SP1 from Microsoft and burned it to a disk. I have tried probably 25 times to install via Bootcamp, but I always get a black screen with a blinking cursor. I went to an Office Depot in Mexico and bought a hard copy of Windows 7 and still have the same problem.
I have searched and it seems like you can't install Windows 7 on Bootcamp via external drive (have read it on multiple sites, but can't figure out why).
I just upgraded to Lion after reading that you can install a Windows iso on a USB Stick, but after looking on these forums, the FAQ says it will work on only certain models.... My question is, what models? I have tried searching, but have had zero results.your burn is the first issue, common - reduced slowest 2x burn speed
3rd party superdrives also don't work and you need support driver
you need to disconnect the 2nd internal drive also -

I have my ipad, iphone, and macbook pro all synced together, which generally works fine. I receive all emails from senders in my address book in my Macbook Pro and iPhone, but some end up in Trash on my iPad, with the message, "This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program. text/plain" They appear to be mainly from competing platforms, android, etc. Is there a workaround for this problem?

Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap" -
I just downloaded iCloud on my MacBook Pro and iPhone. How do I download it to my MacBook Air from either of these devices?

I have to have windows so I can use CAD and photoshop for my classes. Any suggestions?
Boot Camp Assistant is in your Utilities folder. You will have to purchase Windows somewhere. Preferred would be 64-bit Windows 7.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
with OS X.
3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows. The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive. -
Using a MacBook Pro with Aperture 3
Anyone using the newest 13" MacBook Pro with Aperture 3? I'm wondering how you like the performance of that laptop with AP 3. Are you using the 2.4 or 2.6 GHz?
I'm considering a new Mac and want to know how this holds up with Aperture.

Did post #2 not already answer this? I would think someone who actually uses this machine would be more inclined to give you an accurate answer...
The point is that there is no per se "accurate answer" to the general performance question. E.g. we hear performance complaints regarding all kinds of boxes stronger than the 13" MBP as well as some reports of users satisfied with MBs or Minis. The more feedback the OP gets the better able he/she is to come to a satisfactory personal conclusion.
Personally I consider the display an important part of what characterizes graphics app performance. Any +"actual user"+ has already decided against the additional *70% more pixels of the 15" size* with high-rez matte display and also has conluded that glossy is OK for them. IMO a potential new buyer of a laptop for graphics should have those differences firmly in mind when decision making. *Clearly a trip to physically compare 13" glossy vs. the 15" size with high-rez matte display is in order.*
A user like cbandes doing the heavy work on a MP with real display is much more likely to be happy with the tiny glossy 13" display part-time in the field than is someone trying to run a full pro Aperture workflow from a 13" MBP. Personally I like pixels and dislike glossy, so I would never go from 1.7M matte pixels to 1M glossy pixels just to save 1.1 pound of weight. IMO.
