If I buy quicktime 7 pro, will it help me load h.264 encoded .mov files in PREL13?

Presently in PREL13, when I attempt to playback any of a group of about 100 video clips all encoded with h.264 in a qt.mov container, they skip or halt, initially the video, then the audio as well. Rendering does not help. I installed the latest version of regular QuickTime, and the video play is the same. I don't need to do any extremely complicated editing here, but I can't really do any if I can't reliably determine start and end points, or really establish video content at all. I cannot pause or seek or really anything. It's possible that my old slow computer just can't hang. Video plays acceptably in QT regular player, seekable, pause/play works fine.
Will there be any advantage to buying the pro version? What would my work flow look like? Could I skip intermediary file steps and work from the original video files?

So unfortunately, I don't know the camera settings.
I only bought quicktime because I thought it would help me work with these videos.
Back to your initial questions shortly. In that regard, what is the file extension of these 100 videos...mov or qt?
The file extension is .mov. I didn't entirely follow the other stuff. As I said, the two programs are reporting different information about the same file.
Additionally, I can report what MediaInfo says about the same file (which seems a little more comprehensive, including for instance that it was shot on a canon, in AVCHD 1080i60:

I wanted to buy QuickTime 7 pro key code but I couldn't. I live in Iceland and it was not in a list of countries. How can I buy QuickTime 7 pro key code?

Thank you Gary Scotland but I have tried to buy it from the URL. But when I filled in my address and credit card number, filling my address was failed. My address is in ICELAND, not in the USA so it was not accepted. And before clicking "Buy now", I tried to choose a country but ICELAND was not in a list of countries so I couldn't change a country.
Have you tried to contact the Rekjavik Apple dealer or macland to see if they could help you?

Do you plan to use QT 7 Pro simultaneously on both platforms? If so, the you are legally bound to purchase separate registration keys. If not, then you can theoretically de-register one system and register the other for use at any time.

  • Will the latest version of Quicktime Pro(for Vista) create a Lime Lapse from a .Mov file (from a video camera)

Will Quicktime Pro for Windows convert a .MOV file to a time lapse?
I have a six hour tripcoming up next weekend, and want turn a full length bullet cam video(native .MOV) of it into a time lapse to post.  I have found tons of info saying QuicktimePro will go from stills to time lapse, but only one reference to converting an existing 1080P .mov file into one.
Any and all help and or direction  will be greatly appreciated!

QuickTime Player Pro can open image sequences and export to an image sequence. This will create a series of still image files, sequentially named to a folder you create.
Open the video and choose Export from the File menu. In the next dialog window choose "Movie to Image Sequence" and then click the "Options" button. Here you set the "frame per second" and the file format (JPEG, PNG, etc.) and other options (like target file size or compression).
Set the FPS to one and one image file per second of video will be extracted and compressed. If your source was 30 fps then the first frame of the first second of the file will be saved. Set the fps to two and the first and fifteenth frame will be captured.
    Some words of cation:
Be sure to create a new folder prior to the export. You don't want hundreds (or thousands) of image files cluttering your desktop.
Edit the source file prior to export to get a "long" shot of the action. Scene breaks will look awkward when they are played at high speed.
Don't make a 1080 file export to image sequence. If your source is 1080 use the View menu to change it to "Half Size". These half size image files will help keep the file size down and help playback on older machines.
Now that you have your folder of images choose "import Image Sequence" from the file menu and set your fps rate back to the same as your source file.
You'll note that file size of your exported/imported project will probably be larger than your source file (and maybe too big to share on the Web). Export it again "Movie to QuickTime Movie" and choose H.264 video codec and set an "average" data rate. This should crunch the file five times smaller.

  • What export options in Quicktime Pro or Final Cut Pro should I select to export  HDV video in .MOV files to highest quality Windows-compatible files?

I have some HDV video files imported through iMovie to .MOV files with Apple Intermediate Codec.
I need to convert these to Windows compatible video files of the highest possible ( least loss) quality.  What export options in Final Cut Pro or in Quicktime Pro should I select?  The codex in the converted files must not be Apple Intermediate Codec, for which there is no Windows version.

Okay, I read the whole Flip4Mac website.
Flip4Mac is an application for Apple computers.
Perhaps my question was unclear.  When I posed it I was thinking of asking somebody with an Apple shop to do the conversion for me, and wanted advice on settings for his QUicktime Pro /Final Cut Pro that would produce the highest quality Windows -compatible files.
The Windows version of Quicktime will not play Quicktime files with Apple Intermediate Codec.  You get black screen video, although the audio does come through.
So here's what I need:  I need a Windows application that will transcode Quicktime files in Apple Intermediate Codec, with no loss or very little loss, to WIndows-compatible files.   All Windows, all the time.  Thank you.

  • Quicktime X not seeing audio track in MPEG IMX 625/50 movie file.

Quicktime X is not seeing the audio track in MPEG IMX 625/50 movie files that I generate elsewhere. This is evident by the fact that Quicktime X player will not play the audio track or report that it exists and likewise in FCP X. However Quicktime 7 Player will play the audio track. What's more, the preview pane play option on the movie file icon will actually play back the audio track in the preview mode. Any ideas?

Ok, I have posted 2 images. One is the of the movie inspector from Quicktime 7 Player which shows the audio track properties for BARS.mov. The other is the movie inspector properties for Quicktime X for BARS.mov. As can be seen, Quicktime X Player does not detect the audio track which is present.
I'm not sure how to make the BARS.mov file available. It's only 10MB.

  • Updated DVD studio pro 4.2.1 and now I cannot import .mov files?

I just updated to OS 10.5.7 and DVD studio pro 4.2.1 and now can only open half my previous project files (yet others open fine still done at the same time) and also can no longer import any 1920x1080i HDV files exported from Final Cut Pro, where I could before, if I didn't want to deal with the 17 hour compressor m2v export. On a deadline and of course the 2 files I need to update no longer open. Help!

yes. its bizarre as I can only import m2v's now vs .mov files before. Keep getting error messages, as well as only opening about 50% of my DVDSP project files, yet all have the same basic elements & settings. Exporting my files as m2vs which should work, but wondering why this is and if I'm the only one experiencing and if there is a fix?

  • Will FCP help me make a true HD movie?

I'm an electronics retailer. I had the idea to capture HD video from my antenna with my elgato EYETV 500 and take intro sequences and varrious materials and put them into a HD movie I could loop to play on my sales floor. Currently I have created a loop with iMove HD 6 and it looks pretty good using the DVCPro setting but I think it could be better. My question is, one, is there a better compression setting to use for HD, and two, would FCP 5 help me much with this project. Just would like to gather some info before dropping $1299.00 on software. Thanks for the help.
P.S. Size is no issue as long as it can be played back from a harddrive.

All captured video plays back from a hard drive. Just so you know.
BUT...the best format of HD you are going to be able to get on a system with a secodary internal hard drive as your scratch disk, or a firewire 800 drive, is DVCPRO HD. Beyond that you are getting into uncompressed HD, and that realy required SATA Raids or Fibrechannel Raids.
Ho will you play this back to the TVs? DVI? DVCPRO HD will most likely be the best you can get.

  • Will a 1080i source make a pristine 720p .mov file?

I have a Canon HG10 (AVCHD) video camera. I set the camera to HQ (15Mbps/60/1080i). I also use FCP 2.0 and Compressor.
First of all. I know that I can keep the native source (camera) target (Compressor) resolution the same 1080/60i. But does this mean that I can make a progressive 720p version of a 1080i source file by just down grading the aspect ratio?
All the HQ AVC file are 1440x1080i. But I compress them (H.264) and make them smaller aspect ratios for portability. Just wondered if a 720p target file would actually be rendered correctly from a 1080i source file.

I had to move on and make the video all over again, but in the process I figured out what I had done. Quicktime has options in the Save As dialog to "Save as a self-contained movie" or "Save as a referenced movie". It is obvious that my edits (which included pasting from another file), were saved as a referenced movie the way I saved it. I then hosed the file when I threw away the referenced file.

  • Will QuickTime 7 Pro work with OS X Lion?

I have Leopard now, but I have ordered Snow Leopard  because I want to switch to OS X Lion when it comes out - apparently it's not clear whether one actually needs Snow Leopard first, but I'm not taking any chances. I also ordered iWorks11 and iLife 11 because I only have 08 and I understand that those won't work on Lion. Now, does anyone know if my QuickTime 7 Pro will work on Lion?

Good news - it WILL work for Lion - I stand corrected.  For some reason the Lion install deleted the program from my computer (the icon changed to a question mark on my dock but the program was no longer in my applications folder).  I called Apple today - they directed me to download QuickTime 7.6 or 7.7 - I don't recall which - and it works.  Your computer should remember your activation key and automatically add the pro features (mine did).  If not you may need to re-type your activation code (hopefully you still have it but I didn't need it).
Important - search for QuickTime 7 download.  When first looking I searched for QuickTime 7 Pro and found a page on Apple's site to download it but the dmg says "Leopdard" on it and it will not work on Lion.
Call Apple if you are still having trouble - it works, I promise!

  • HELP! need to get DV into imovie using Quicktime 7 pro

Hi there, I need help! I have a movie that is in dv format. I downloaded Streamclip and converted it. Now imovie tells me that I have to have Quicktime 7 pro to change the movie into smaller clips so imovie can import the clips.
Is there any other way? If I buy Quicktime 7 pro, is it actually going to be possible to edit my movie in imovie? I don't have a dvd burner for my mac to save it when I am done. Any suggestions on what I should get? I really know nothing about movies...yet!

Yes. Use the in and out points to create a selection. Set the in at the beginning and the out about halfway.
I think iMovie 4 has a 2GB limit. Let's assume your file is 4GB in size. Make your selection to create a 2GB selection and then use the "Trim" or "Cut" to remove it from the source. Don't worry. We'll fix this later.
Choose "Save As" and pick the MOV extension. This will place your DV file into a .mov container. No changes are made to the true .dv format.
Now you have one 2GB "chunk" of your file.
Back to Streamclip. Note the "time" of your cut so you can find your place for the second chunk. From the Edit menu choose "Undo". This should restore your original file.
Trim or cut the other half of your file. Use Save As to create a .mov file of the second half.
Import these smaller pieces into iMovie 4. When your Project is completed you can delete your original DV file and the smaller .mov files to free up valuable hard drive space.

  • Quicktime 7 pro export h.264 better than iMovie quicktime setting?

Hi, wondering if anybody knows if Quicktime 7 pro will export h.264 files (mp4) with better quality than going thru iMovie 11 and using the Quicktime plugin? The results are ok with iMovie but wondering if Quicktime 7 Pro would export better as a standalone unit? Looking to make super small files from chopped up dvd's that will play on all mobile devices..Been using baseline profile setting in iMovie Quicktime plugin so it plays on iPhone 3g as well..  Thanks everyone!

I am trying to create very small files from a DVD , just simple chopping the DVD up into sections...when I use Handbrake to rip the DVD to a small h.264 (mp4) file the quality is surprisingly good...if I rip a higher quality mp4 to use in iMovie the export to smaller h.264 files don't look nearly as good when trying to get files sizes equivalent to Handbrake...I have tried ripping the highest quality video from DVD to use in iMovie '11 but when trying to export using QuickTime plugin to get h.264 (mp4) files they don't look that good...basically if Handbrake had editing capabilities the chopped up files would look better from there...
You are experiencing a process of diminishing returns by continuously re-compressing the video from less efficient codecs to more efficient/same efficiency codecs at the same or lower data rates which tends to degrade quality with each re-compression. My recommendation would be to purchase the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) and use it with MPEG Streamclip for your work flow. (Note: If you are using Lion, the component installer won't work correctly and you will either have the use the Squared-5 beta utility to install the package or install the codec manually.)
A better work flow would be to load the DVD titles (VOB file data) to MPEG Streamclip and edit the content there in its native MPEG-2/AC3 or MPEG-2/PCM compression format. You can set in/out points the same as using QT 7 Pro and save the segments as separate files using an alpha-numeric filename convention denoting the order in which you later want to merge the segments. Once all segments are saved, just drop all of them simultaneously back to the MPEG Streamclip work window and they will be merged in the proper alpha-numeric order. You can then fix "timecode breaks" and export the final product to your targeted compression format. Since you only re-compress the project once, depending on the codec/settings you use, your final file should approach the quality achieved in HandBrake. I.e., this is the main benefit of editing in the original "native" codec used in the DVD content.
