If I buy Snow Leopard in Korea will it work on my U.S. Mac?

I bought my MacBook in the U.S. and have since moved to Korea. I was wondering if Snow Leopard was regoin coded and if I bought it from the Korean Apple store will it work on my MacBook.

The DVD isn't region coded. Any printed documentation may be in Korean.

Check first if your Mac might be compatable.

The simplest method would be to ask them for their Snow Leopard version and say you can't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8. I'm almost sure they will sell you a copy.
Generally if your machine can only upgrade to 10.7 Lion and not directly to 10.8 Mountain Lion, then it's best left on 10.6.8. in my opinion as your going to loose too much other software and slow down your machine in the process.
This rapid OS X upgrade cycle has caused plenty of problems for users and developers alike, so I suspect you will find a sympathizer with the developer.
In fact I'm not recommending Mac's to anyone anymore because Apple simply has lost touch with reality.

  • How to buy snow leopard currently?

    Hi,
i wanted to update an old leopard mac (which is supported) to mountain lion now that it is out.
Turns out snow leopard cant be bought in the mac store anymore and telephone support says it should be bought at retail sellers.
However i phoned three retailers and none have them in stock anymore.
Is there still a way to buy a Snow Leopard Licence directly or buy a full licence for Montain Lion from Apple?

Sen10 I'm also a consultant and equally "freaked out"
I called back and asked for the sales department and explained the back and forth I've been going through between the forums and 1-800MYAPPLE.
The rep was much more helpful and had to "search the store", something the previous rep did not take the time to do while I was on the phone. So you guys are right, they seem to have old info. The rep also confirmed to me that 1-800-MYAPPLE was now the only place you can buy Snow Leopard.
Another interesting tidbit (to me): She confirmed to me that they cover both US and Canada so I wont have to wonder about that anymore.
No telling how long it will be available for so get em while theyre hot.
Thanks everyone for the prompt replies!

  • HT1338 Where can I buy Snow Leopard so that I may upgrade to Lion?

Where can I buy Snow Leopard so that I may upgrade to Lion?

If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

A 10.5 era machine is better left on 10.6.8
I don't advise upgrading it to 10.7 as you'll have to buy all new versions of software for a older model machine, some are not ready yet and some of your third party driver software may not be available for your other hardware.
10.7 is slower and requires 4GB of RAM actually.
10.8 is being released this summer and it won't run on certain older graphic cards, so shortly you will be behind again.
Save your money for a new 10.8 machine. IMO
These rapid OS X upgrades are for those who like to be on the cutting edge and can afford to buy new hardware often, you didn't even upgrade to 10.6, so your not that sort of person obviously.
But you do need to upgrade to 10.6 for security issues and faster video. It will run your 10.5 Rosetta software, but 10.7 will not.

Make sure your machine meets the minimum system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Although it says 2 GB RAM is the minimum, it's generally recommended to have at least 4 GB unless you only use your machine for "light" use (no movie editing/burning, etc).

One can't guarantee no data loss.  See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
All else being equal, it will upgrade you to 10.7, but applications and drivers may need to be updated too.  See my other FAQ* for other possible pitfalls:

  • Will Photoshop CS6 work with Snow Leopard or must I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the Mac Book Pro?

I will be purchasing PhotoShop CS6 & installing on my Mac Book Pro. Adobe tells me that I should upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard in order for it to work best. Any thoughts on this? Thank you, Paul

You can use it on Snow Leopard without any problem. However, Apple updates graphic drivers and more things, so it could run better on Mountain Lion, but as I said, if you don't want to upgrade, keep on Snow Leopard because it will run properly.
Probably, Adobe is referring to the fact that Photoshop could be working in 32-bit because the kernel on Snow Leopard starts into 32-bit by default, and Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system. In this case, you will see an improvement

I don't use it much, but Quicken 6 still runs fine for me in Snow Leopard?
Have a look at > snow leopard and rosetta: Apple Support Communities and see if anything there helps.
Optionally you might want to consider installing Tiger on a properly formatted External Hard Drive partition > Apple Tips: Using Disk Utility 1. Format, Erase, or Reformat a Drive, then boot into it for running those PPC App's and keep your iMac on 10.6.

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my system will tell me to restart while in the middle of doing something. a shadow screen comes down

Since upgrading to snow leopard, my system will roll down a transparent screen and it says you must power off computer, its usually when Im on a website doing something

I believe you are seeing a kernel panic.
"You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) message appears (Mac OS X v10.5, 10.6)

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A for SL retail disks.
Once SL is intalled from retail disks the combo installer should be found to update it to 10.6.8, which install App Store to download Lion.
Is your computer Intel (required for SL)?  If intel is it Core2Duo (required for Lion)?

Run through this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
It might have to do with the way Safari works on the Internet and the rash of attacks occuring
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2013/mar/27/cyber-attack-spamhaus-slows-dow n-internet
I also booted up Safai today which I hardly use and it was incredibly slow as well.
I don't know if it's Safari or me not using it for such a long time.
If the above fixes don't work, all I can suggest is to use Firefox or whatever until this attack thing blows over and see after that.
