If I change my Apple ID to Gmail or hotmail will I receive all the emails from that address on my apple devices

If I change my Apple ID to Gmail or hotmail will I then receive the emails for that email address on my apple device?

It doesn't matter who your email provider is with regard to receiving emails on Apple devices. You should be able to set up an email account in the mail app whether you use Gmail or Hotmail. Do you already have an email account with one of those two providers?

Stop sharing an Apple ID. That is the cause.

  • If I change my apple ID to a different one will I loose all my purchases from my existing ID

    Hi There
I currently have several email addresses that I no longer use for email - because I now use the address that ends @me.com as my primary email address, and so I am cleaning up my digital life, by deleting these unused email addresses.
The problem is, one of these unused email addresses that ends in @btinternet.com is also my Apple ID for iTunes and the App Store.  I know I can change this to something else, so I thought I would change it to my Windows Live address ending @hotmail.com (I need to keep this because its used for my XBOX Live Account).
So if I change my Apple ID to my @hotmail.com account, I will then have only three email addresses, my @hotmail.com address used for my XBOX Live account and my Apple ID, an @gmail.com address, used for password recovery, and my @me.com address, which is used as my primary email address.
That will be better than have lots and lots of different email addresses, but here is the question:  If I change my Apple ID to my @hotmail.com, will I still be able to access my purchases from iTunes and the App Store that I bought usinfg my @btinternet.com ID.  This is very important because I have spend 100s of pounds on music, videos and apps from iTunes, as well as purhased software and OS X upgrades from the App Store.
I will be deleting my @btinternet.com email address from the BT/Yahoo service, so the address will no longer be active.  When I was reading Apple's help and support, it said that "Apple recomends that you use an active email address".
    Can someone advise me
    Thanks
    jason

when you change your Apple iD it's pretty much changing the visual email, i guess that doesn't really answer your question, yes you keep your purchases, it just changes the log-in email and email where newsletters , etc. go to.

  • The gmail account with which I had my apple id is not  in my use any more , do i need to recreate my apple id and if I do, will I lost all the apps that I have bought.

I kind of lost hold of that gmail id which is uttilised as my appleid will it make any difference . do I need to create new apple id. If I do so will i lost all my apps which I have bought using this id

All content is tied to the account that buys/downloads it and it can't be transferred to a different account, so if you create a new account all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your existing account. If you don't have access to that email address anymore then you should be able to login here and update your account to have a new email address : https://appleid.apple.com/

  • I just got a new iPod nano, and I'm really excited about it, but I have a problem. A long time ago, I changed the email address on my account, and now all the songs from that account are gone. I don't know how to get them back. Can someone please help me?

This is really frustrating, I've been trying to get my songs back for hours

When you say "account," do you mean your iTunes library, because your iTunes library is what is on your computer?  Your iTunes library does not have an email address.  An account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID (which is an email address) and you use it as your user name to sign in to the iTunes Store, to make purchases.  Changing your Apple ID will not make songs disappear from your computer's iTunes library.
If you had an Apple ID and used it to make song purchases from the iTunes Store, and then started using a different Apple ID, you should be able to re-download the songs purchased with the old Apple ID.  In iTunes, sign in to the iTunes Store using your OLD Apple ID (and password).  That may not be your current email address, but Apple uses it as your user name, so it does not matter.
On the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  This takes you do the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous song purchases (for that Apple ID) at no cost.
NOTE:  If those song purchases are from more than a few years ago, you may also need to authorize your computer to play (and sync) songs for your old Apple ID.
For songs that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, if they are also gone, you cannot get them back unless you have a backup (or they are still loaded on your old iPod).
If that's not what you mean by "changed the email address on my account," please post back with more details.

  • If I re-install my podcast app with a different apple ID will I lose all the media from the older one ?

I have the Podcast app installed on my iPhone with a lot if free media content downloaded.
Now I need to re-install the app with a different apple ID.
Will I lose all my content by doing do ?
Please help. I don't want to lose anything.
Please let me know if there is a work-around.

You don't really want a new Apple Account (which is what you are describing) - all of your iTunes purchases will still be tied to the old Apple Account, all of your iCloud info will be under that old Account, all of your Messages will be under that old Account.
Why not just to to Manage your Apple ID and edit your Apple ID to the new email you want it to be? You cannot edit an Apple ID using an Apple Domain email address (@me.com, @mac.com, @iCloud.com), but if your current ID is not using one of those type of email addresses, then changing it is the way you want to go. That way, everything stays with the Apple ID since it is the same Apple account.
Just be sure to sign out of all apps on the device (iCloud, Messages, iTunes & App Store, FaceTime) before you change it.
To EDIT your current Apple ID at Manage your Apple ID go to: Apple - My Apple ID

  • Can't use Find My Friends on iPhone due to Apple ID not being verified. Can't do this as I can't access my .mac email any longer and I can not change the primary e-mail address for my Apple ID!

Can't use Find My Friends on iPhone due to Apple ID not being verified.
Can't do this as I can't access my .mac email any longer and I can not change the primary e-mail address for my Apple ID!
    So my options are:
Create a new Apple ID, use that and lose all the apps I've purhcased with it (a fairly substantial amount)
Somehow Migrate these purchases over to a new Apple ID
Apple let me change the primary ID for the account
Anyone else ran into this before?
I've tried accessing the mail through a mail application using the correct server information, and trying both the old 6 character password and the one I had to change it too after they updated the security guidelines - neither work.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I can see more services down the line not working without the address being verified!

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You should not need to verify the old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Technically the Music, apps are not hers but yours as your Apple ID was used to get them. And as a consequnce they are tied to your Apple ID.
If she creates her own Apple ID she will need to get her own music, apps, etc...

I found the above link helpful!  Apparently the @me.com is a separate "apple id" ...pretty stupid - the whole reason I got the @me.com e-mail is I thought I would streamline everything into one....

cannot receive or send email from my hotmail account, refuses to verify server. I have changed my password, deleted the account numerous times, any solutions? all on ios 6. it was working up until a few days ago and now refuses to load on both my ipad 2 and iphone 4S
in the process deleted all my contact, very annoying.
    all help is much appreciated.
interesting that my gmail account does work perfectly.

this may or may not help - but give it a try.  On a forum some were reporting that talk21 is now under the yahoo umbrella.  below are the steps this use listed.  (This was an android forum, but the email settings should be the same.  In short it looks like their server names have changed.  An existing account may have simply been forwarded - but if you are reinstalling, it may want a clean install to the right servers.)  Pay particular attention to the server names and port settings.  (this thread was started based on a discussion of Imap vs pop - you are already an Imap person - so ignore that part)
    See if this helps.
why settle for pop3, when IMAP works with talk21 and not only does mail get pushed out faster with IMAP, but when you click refresh it will be received faster than pop3.  The other advantage is subfolders are also supported with IMAP but cant be seen with POP3. This mail feature works with my android eclair & hero phone and the settings are exactly the same for win mobiles also (not tested). The mail setting up roadmap is the same from what i can remember once in the mail feature for win mobi.
This is what you need to do to setup Talk21 email with IMAP.
    Incoming server settings
    IMAP server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port - 143
    Security type - none
    Outgoing Server settings
    SMTP server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port - 25
Security type - none Also important note - Enable 'require sign-in'
and enter your talk21 username and password The End...works a treat for me p.s. Its only taken me 3 years to work it out with win mobile and recently with android. Finally got it to work...hope this helps all the talk21 users out there. if there are any other similar posts out there with no answer...dont forget to mention my name when passing this post around.

  • I set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

Your question really belongs in the AppleWorks community/forum.
You can turn on fonts in actual type in the AppleWorks preferences.

  • Is there a way to forward *all* my emails (from Mail to gmail)?

I'm switching accounts with my ISP (Verizon, long story, not really relevant) and I can't keep the same username, I want to forward all the emails I've kept in Apple Mail to my Gmail account and use that from now on for everything.
There are only about 150 of them in there, but I'm looking for a way to send them all without doing them by hand individually (I did command-A and selected all of them but it said it was too big (27MB, 21MB limit) to send through my server (I deleted as much as I could, I realize I could split them in half but ideally I'd do a batch of all of them but arriving at Gmail *individually*).
    Can this be done? Thanks

Yes that's what I meant by splitting it up, but ideally I want to have each email arrive individually (without forwarding each one by hand—but I don't know if it's possible).
