If i download OS X Lion on one imac, can i also use that download on another imac?

i have 2 imac computers.  i want to use icloud, connecting my iphone and both imac's together.  if i purchase OS X Lion for the app store, can i use that download on both imac computers?  dont i have to have Lion on my imac to use icloud?  thanks

Yes, you can IF you extract the InstallESD.dmg file from the download and before you install Lion on one of the Macs. If you didn't do that, then you will need to log into the Mac App Store with your Apple ID on the other Mac, go into Purchases, download and install Lion.
Yes, you need Lion to use iCloud.

  • HT4718 My copy of Lion is damaged and can't be used for reinstallation, what can i do?

when I launch Lion Recovery and try to reinstall the OS, there is a message that says that my copy of lion is damaged and can't be used for reinstallation. what can I do?

Sorry but that makes no sense.
The Lion install files are not stored on your computer so they can't be damaged. When using the Lion Recovery HD and you want to Re-Install Lion the install files are downloaded from the internet before the actual install begins.
If at one time you saved the Lion install files, secifically the InstallESD.DMG, and created your own Lion Install USB thumb drive and that is what you are booting from then this same type of thing has happened to me.
If you can't boot to the current Lion install, or you wiped your hard drive, you can try booting to the included Recovery HD and then download and install Lion or try the Online Internet Recovery HD system by holding down the Command+r keys OR the Command+Option+r keys when starting the system. One of those keyboard combos will take you to the online Lion Recovery system where you can download and install Lion.

I started a new one because I no longer use that email address. Can I merge accounts?
I have tried to log into my old account in itunes, but it won't let me.
    What do I do?

I found the answer that works for me. (This information was not on Apple's website for troubleshooting this problem.)
In Safari, (I use Firefox only) cookies must be enabled.  I never knew there was a connection between iTunes and Safari until now.

I am interested on buying the Photoshop and Lightroom package (9.99 per month) My question is If I download it on my PC can I also use it on my iMac or vice versa?

If you want to have the photos stored on an external HD, you probably should move them there in your operating system before you import into Lightroom.
But, if you don't yet own an external HD, you can import from the internal hard drive and later move the photos to wherever you want them to be, as long as you do it properly.

Yes, on as many as you own. Just log in with the same Apple ID to the App Shop.

  • Paid For Lion On One Computer. Now Asking To Verify Payment On Another

Anyone have this problem.  I understand Lion, once you pay for it, can be used for any other Mac you have. I did stop the downloading on the first iMac, and will go back to resume later.  Is that the problem?  You have to fully download one Lion App before you can go on to the next? Because  when I go the App Store, go to purchases, sign in see the Lion Icon and Install button for my MacBook Pro, I get the verify payment question, not allowing me to push the install button. Any solutions?
    Thanks

I understand, but it's not doing that.  I sign in, and then a little red box appears and says "You must verify payment info before you can a purchase." Well, I did make a purchase on my iMac, and now I want to download it on my Macbook Pro.  Just want to be sure I don't get charged twice. My payment is done through PayPal with an Am Ex card. When I press the Am Ex button, it's asking for the card # etc.  It seems like it want to charge me.
And the at the bottom is a cancel /done button.  Maybe I should call the 1-800 number.  The Lion icon is there, it's not just not permitting me to install without what seems to be a new purchase

  • I have a Mountain Lion license and I would like to use that license in order to upgrade my old mac book pro running Lion.

How can I do it without purchasing Snow Leopard again?  Currently this version of OSX is not equipped with AppStore.  Thanks a lot in advance.

You are going to have to upgrade to Snow Leopard before you can install Mountain Lion.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Model Numbers                  Computer Compatibility - Apple
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.
    Computer Compatibility - Lion
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported.        Application Compatibility
You can also check which applications are PowerPC by going to the  menu, select About this Mac, click on More info…, then click System Report and select Software/Applications.
If you have applications that you want to use that aren’t compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
    Do a backup before installing.
Boot using the disks that came with your computer, the Snow Leopard DVD (if installed) or the Recovery volume (command -R) if upgrading from Lion. Use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair  the disk and run Repair Permissions. Restart normally.
Upgrade to Snow Leopard (if required), then update to 10.6.8.     Snow Leopard Purchase
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.

  • If you have purchased a used iPhone which still has the warranty one it can you still use it even thought its a used phone ?

my dad had purchased an i phone 5 from someone who was selling who had gotten it from soneone else it i have gotten it unlocked and it has been unlocked it is not reported stolen or anything i used and online imei checker and it says  the warenty exprires jan 15 2014  i just want to know if i can use that warenty even though i do not know the apple id it is regersterd on or anything ? also what is the canadian number i can call to get this info if you dont know the =answer

The warranty follows the device, not the owner. If you have the device, if there is a warranty issue with the device, you can get it replaced. If you got it officially unlocked by the carrier it was locked to, then you have nothing to worry about it locking back if you do a restore. You may, however run in to activation problems if the device has iOS 7 on it. You will need the Apple ID and password for the person that originally activated the phone, and it sounds as if it has changed hands several times. If you cannot find that original Apple ID and password, then the phone will not be able to activate and no one will be able to help you with that, including Apple.

  • After upgrading to lion 10.7 I can no longer use my canoscan 9950f, why?

After upgrading to lion 10.7 my canoscan 9950f scanner is no longer recognized. Have I lost thye use of this scanner by going to 10.7?

Not likely. Make sure the scanner is still available in System Preferences > Print & Scan. You might have to delete the old scanner and add it again if your computer cannot "find" it.
Before you do that, and while you are in Print & Scan, see if  you can get it to scan by selecting the Scan tab.
In Lion, all scanning functions have been relegated to Preview, the Print & Scan preference pane, and Image Capture.

  • Upgrading to Lion on MacBook Pro: Can I turn of that new auto save feature?

I am going to be upgrading (or downgrading - yikes!) to Lion.
Is there any way to turn off that new feature that saves every single version of a document?
And, will Lion in anyway change my years worth of stored files totalling 60 GB? It is important for me to preserve them intact for various legal purposes, i.e. I cannot have a document created or modified on June 1, 2002 changed to today's date. Could that happen?
Much love to all those helping people make the transition to Lion (THAT INCLUDES YOU KAPPY)!
PS: I am currently running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 5,1 -- Has anyone in the class of 5,1 upgraded to Lion yet? Thoughts?

Yeah but Eww this auto save thing is insane!
Why?  Are you under the mistaken impression that it stores multiple full copies of a document?  That is not the case.  Only the changes are stored to minimize the extra space used.
After all my years of seeing people wish for auto-save features, I never guessed that when they got it people would be wishing to NOT have it...
So is the amount of space that gets eaten up
What amount of space is that?  By what?
I think you're paying too much attention to people having problems.  That's basically ALL you get here.  This is where people come with problems.  So the information you're getting here has a serious selection bias...  you're not hearing what all the people who are NOT having problems have to say.
This is nothing like the tiger to Leopard change or the Leopard to snow leopard change
You're right, this is much more minor.  I'm actually surprised by how quickly things seem to be calming down here.  These forums were in a serious turmoil for months after SL's release!
AND this update is taking away our right to those minor customizations that make our Mac OUR Mac
How so?  Again, it sounds like you're listening to the wrong people or pulling "facts" out of thin air.  My MBP is just as customized in Lion as it was in SL, and is running quite smoothly.

  • I've changed my apple ID on one device but didn't for the other. I now can no longer use that device because it keeps coming up with the 'sign in to iCloud' box, but as that id no longer exist it wont allow me to type in the password. HELP?!

  • One e-mail address but using multiple servers

Hello all, I am hoping to get some expert help here and greatly appreciate anything you can give me. I have one e-mail address that I use for school, but have one outgoing server when I am specifically on the school's network and another outgoing server to use when I am on my network at home.
Is there a way to set up Mail to automatically use the appropriate outgoing server for each network? For example, can I set it up to automatically use my school's outgoing server when I am on the school's network and to use my home ISP server when I am on my home wireless network? Also, I do not know if it matters, but I use both a LAN and wireless networks while at school, depending on whether I am in my office or in a classroom.
One more thing, I also use coffee shops a lot, ones that have wifi. Is there a way to train Mail to use my school outgoing server's whenever I am using those networks?
P.S. When I was using my XP laptop, I had similar issues. I am just hoping that Mail is smarter than Outlook. Thanks!
A recent newbie to Mac and OS X who is loving it! Never going back!

    Slack,
    simple solution for that;
make two accounts in Mail / Preferences
in the description, name one home, the other work
    email address canbe the same.
In the outgoing mail server settings, set one for home, the other for work
Each time you compose a new mail, you get a dropdown menu after Accounts that will let you choose which account you are sending from.
When your network preference is set to Automatic, it will pick up the wireless network at your current location. Instructions as above for new mails.
This will depend on your school network if it allows you to send from their smtp server when you are not actually connected to their network.

  • Created a new theme but no one else can see it in the workspace

I made a copy of a theme and modified it somewhat to give it a new look and feel. Right now it is only in the development workspace as a different theme ID. I switched one of our applications to use that theme. Someone else is trying to do the same thing and he does not see that particular theme when he chooses "from HTML DB Repository." We only see the themes 1-12, not the new one I just created.
Why is this? We also saw an option to choose new theme from import, but why would we need to import it if we are both using the same workspace? I am sure we will need to export to move to the QA and PROD workspaces, but isn't this new theme around SOMEWHERE in our development workspace? I am reading the documentation -- not finding the answer.
    Can someone help? Thanks.
    -Karey

    Carl,
Thanks so much for the response. Yes, we had tried to do an export and although it worked, it gave a different theme number. Yet I will have to check out what you mentioned about making an application and subscribing to the templates. We do want to keep this standardized so that may be the answer.
Thanks for your expertise. I have just started working with this tool so it is all very new to me.

  • HT2506 After updating my system to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I can no longer view videos on Facebook or other sites. The only one I can view videos on is youtube. I have downloaded Adobe Flash player and still no luck. I cannot even open Preview on my computer

After updating my system to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I can no longer view videos on Facebook or other sites. The only one I can view videos on is youtube. I have downloaded Adobe Flash player and still no luck. I cannot even open Preview on my computer anymore. Any ideas would be helpful thanks

Merely clicking the Preview icon in the Dock doesn't cause it to open anything, unless you had one or more windows open the last time it quit.
If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password. If you get the same error after doing that, re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    2. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    3. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    4. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
