No. They should not be.
HOWEVER... If you can not make a backup of your critical data, you should NOT attempt any major system updates or changes at all.
Actually, if you can't make a backup of your critical data, you shouldn't even be using the machine...
Things happen. it's unlikely, but they do happen.
Get yourself an external drive (they are dirt cheap these days) and back up your stuff.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

If I download the new version of Firefox, will the old version automatically be uninstalled?

This question is so unbelievably basic that nobody has asked it before. But as simple-minded as it may be, I just want to be sure, since if the old version isn't uninstalled, I'm not sure how to make that happen.

If you install a beta version, by default it will not replace the existing version and is installed in its own directory. If you download a release version, it will by default be installed in the standard installation directory and will replace what was previously installed.

Not unless something really goes wrong. You should always have a backup of your library

It's a feature of iTunes 11. It gives you on demand access to your past purchases. If you want to disable it use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

is a link provided by Apple to download the new iPhone OS 3.1.3 file itself ? I want to download it to a computer which I will not be able to connect my iPhone to. I will USB thumb drive the file to my laptop to finish the update at some later point in the day....
Apple by contrast has always allowed stuff like OS combination updaters, Security Updates, iDVD updates, iLife updaters, etc to be downloaded to a computer which isnt necessarily involved with the actual update.
I was hoping this motif would also be try for iPhones.

in itunes press shift key while clicking on update, this will let you coose the downloaded file for use.

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Does that mean, you are running iPhoto 9.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 Yosemite? Or are you using an older MacOS X? "New" iPhoto is relative and depends on your system.

Does "shut down" mean it crashes? Then post please the error log from the error panel here - copy and paste the report into your next answer (the first 50 lines should suffice)
Where is your iPhoto Library (Mediathek) stored? Have you moved it to an external drive, or is it still in your Pictures folder (the order "Bilder")?

HP Deskjet F2120 driver for the new OS X Yosemite 10.10

Please help! I just updated my MacBook Pro with the new OS X Yosemite 10.10, and now my HP Deskjet F2120 All-In-One Printer/Scanner will no longer work. In the past, I have never had any problems with my printer connecting to my lap-top. Now, it seems my lap-top will not recognize the printer. It does not appear when I go into my system preferences to "Add a Printer". I have checked see if my printer is compatable with the new OS X Yosemite, and according to HP.com, it is.
I know that I am up to date with all of my computer updates via the app store. I can't seem to find any software to download from the HP site for this..
Is there something I am missing?

I see that you are in need of the drivers for the Deskjet F2120 that will be compatible with Yosemite.
These drivers are not available at this time.
I suggest that you go on to the HP web site and sign up for updates " Get connected with updates from HP".

after downloading OS X-yosemite i can't open my iphoto. When i click on it, it says that i have to download the new version in the apple store but when i go there i can't download the new version. I hope someone can help me because i can't find a solution for this problem.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

You can use one account with iTunes on your Mac, and different account(s) with the Mac App Store (for buying/downloads apps or OS updates for your Mac), iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud) and Messages (Messages > Preferences, or command-comma)
