If I fail credit check, can I get a prepaid iPhone?

During the activation process of the iPhone, if I fail the credit check, can I still choose to get a prepaid plan for my iPhone? Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, that's just a rumor. An unsubstantiated rumor that I'm sure AT&T does nothing to dissuade anyone from believing.
First off, AT&T doesn't give care about your loyalty. It cares about profits. Most of the time it "rewards" it's customers for signing contracts by subsidizing the costs of the phones. It also "rewards" customers by offering better package deals, more mobile to mobile minutes, better per minute to cost ratio, etc. Pre-paid folk, myself included, pay a higher per minute cost, get worse customer service, don't have access to the same website even, but it's still the same network. I've used AT&T within a contract and AT&T outside of a contract, and trust me, it's the same. AT&T just thinks of us as second class citizens, sure we have to ride in the back, but it's still the same bus.
That said, I also don't ever have to worry about paying to break my contract. If AT&T ticks me off, I can tell the kiss my butt, use the new program to unlock my iPhone, and go elsewhere (and by elsewhere I mean T-Mobile since I think that's the only other compatible network States-side.
So it's a personal choice. I signed a contract with them once, and I'll never do it again. I rarely use my cell for calls during peak hours because I'm at work, I use it for data all day long but that's unlimited, so it works really well for me. However this rumor of a lesser network is bogus. It would be cost prohibitive to run a seperate network.
