Windows Boot Camp does not exist, you mean Boot Camp Assistant, which is a Mac program, it is the program you would use to prepare your Mac to run Windows.
You will need a 64bit retail or OEM version of Windows Home or Professional.
You will also need to read the Boot Camp Documentation thoroughly, and make a complete backup of your machine before repartitioning.

  • Boot camp will not install windows 7?

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo; OS X 10.9.1, 750 Gb HD, Optical Drive: MatshitaDVD-R
    Boot Camp support version 5.1.5640
I can not get Boot Camp to install Windows 7. It will create a partition, but gives me a
“1...2...Select CD-ROM Boot Type“ error and freezes up when attempting to install from Windows install disk in optical drive..
I created a windows7 iso file and installed that on a usb stick, but Boot Camp will not recognize that either.
Is there any way to actually use Boot Camp and Windows on this computer?

Is your Windows 7 cd a full retail version?
You are using the wrong Windows Support software. Look for your computer here: Look for your computer here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
If your computer came with an optical drive you can not use a usb stick to install Windows.

  • Will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me?

will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me? if so, costs?

Ask them. We don't know what your local Apple Store will do for you. It will certainly cost you their hourly charge for however many hours are involved. You may have to purchase Win8 from them but if not you must have a copy of your own.
Or you can take the time to read the Boot Camp documentation and do it yourself. Start here: Apple - Support - Boot Camp. Open Boot Camp Assistant then click on the large button on the left to print the documentation. Then read it very carefully.

  • Made a new partition on Macintosh HD, Boot Camp will no longer boot.

    Specs:
    MacBook Air 2013
    8GB RAM
    i7
    512GB SSD
Hello all, looking for some assistance.
My HD is formatted to 400GB of OSX and 80GB of Boot Camp. I stupidly made the mistake of adding a new partition out of the large amount of free space I have on the OSX partition, to format the new partition for Windows. This made Boot Camp no longer boot. On the Disk select screen after holding Option on boot, my Boot Camp partition is not visible. I can see everything on the partition on OSX, however.
To try and fix this, I deleted the new partition and tried to reduce the hard drive back to the original two partitions. However, I cannot extend the OSX partition to fill in the new free space. So now I have a Boot Camp partition, my OSX partition, and 20GB of unused, free space that I cannot use or put back into the original partition.
I asked AppleCare live chat for any assistance, they suggested that I use "Erase free space" in Disk Utility to use the space again. However, the option is greyed out on both the drive and the Macintosh HD partition.
After a bit of googling I saw a suggestion of making a USB Recovery drive to get the space back through Disk Utility that way. This still did not work; the results were the same, unable to add the space back to the original partition, and "Erase free space" is still greyed out.
Using BootChamp (notice the H, this is an app that allows you to restart and boot directly into Boot Camp through OSX), I get a DOS screen saying "No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key". I cannot get this screen any other way.
I have repaired and verified the disk and its permissions, to no avail.
I cannot think of anything else to do short of formatting the entire drive but this is obviously less than preferable. I additionally do not have a backup of the BootCamp partition (as it is not accessible), even though everything is visible on the partition through OSX.
So, in summary, I added a new partition to my HD and now Boot Camp will not boot. Any ideas?

"rEFIt is an alternative bootloader for your Mac that's a lot more forgiving. If you don't think investing in iPartition is worth it, I'd give this a shot:
In rEFIt, do not boot: go to the EFI shell, and type "gptsync". This will tell you that the partition table is out of sync, and will offer to sync it for you. Say "yes", naturally. Now reboot and all systems should be go!"
    This worked.

  • How do I remove the old windows boot camp partition which is now useless on my new Macbook pro

I had boot camped windows Vista to my old Macbook Pro 2009.
When I bought a new Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013, I restored from my Time Machine backup. It never put Windows Vista on as there was compatability issues.
I recently tried to partition in Boot Camp to install Windows 8 so that I can use a particular program for work. The "ghost" partition is still there and I can't see an option to make the HD as one again. Boot Camp wants me to format the HD as single and journaled which I understand but if I restore from my backup it puts the "ghost" partition back in. 6 hours of waiting to find that out!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thanks for responding.
Boot Camp shows my HD as a rectangle when I go to the "partition" tab but nearly half of it is white. Is this the free space?
The error message I got was:-
The disk cannot be partitioned because some of the files could not be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp assistant again.
I was only making a small partition, so it couldn't have been too big.
There is no evidence of any Windows installation or a physical partition but it must be there to get that message. Is that correct?
I can't see an option to format my whole HD but even if there was, the problem would reappear when restored from TMachine.
    UPDATE:
just tried to make the white area on my HD into a new partition and then erase it.
I'm trying Boot Camp again to see if that has worked. It just takes about 2 hours to get to the problem stage again!!

  • How do I restore data to a new mac with windows boot camp partition?

    Hi
I have a new iMac and an old MBP, I'd like to copy all of the data of my old MBP to the iMac.Would doing that affect the windows boot camp partition?
and how do I do it?
right now im backing everything up on my MBP using super duper
both the MBP and the iMac are running on Lion

I am assuming the Boot Camp partition is on the old MBP and that the SuperDuper clone is on an external drive and is bootable. The Super Duper clone does not include the Boot Camp Partition.
To get the Mac Data moved you can use Migration Assistant and if you want to transfer the Boot Camp partition you would need Winclone to move/copy it to a newly created Boot Camp partition on the iMac. The SD Clone ( and a Winclone backup) is your insurance policy if some kind of difficulty arises.

  • Remove windows boot camp applications

    Hi there!
It might be a common question but this is the situation:
I've been using Windows for a few weeks for school. I had it installed on a partition and I used Parallels. A few weeks ago, I have restored my disk to only one, so i removed Windows. Afterwards I had Parallels uninstalled but I keep getting "My boot camp applications" in my user folder, and they also show up in Launchpad. Quite annoying!
Can I just select all the applications and remove them, or select the "My boot camp applications" folder and remove it?
    Thanks!

Yes, removing that folder should do the trick.
The correct sequence would have been:
    1. remove the Windows VM from within Parallels
    2. remove Parallelsl using the Parallels Uninstaller.app
    3. use the BootCamp Assistant to remove the BootCamp Windows partition

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • Could I reinstall OS X partition keeping the windows boot camp partition?

II have a OS x partition that need reinstall. In the same hd I have a Windows Boot camp partition. The question is, could I reinstall OS X partition without affect the Windows partition?
    Thanks,
    Jorge.

    Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Of course you should backup both.
Q: why do you think OS X needs to be reinstalled or something?
    Disk directory trouble?
Because 3rd party disk utility can do better, as well as maybe clone Mac volume so you can boot and do more repairs.
Or maybe the partition table is shot. Or bad sectors. And bad sectors can require a full format.
In a perfect world, but disk drives and systems aren't

  • How can I get my Boot Camp partition off my old drive?

I swapped out the stock 160gb drive that came in my MacBook Pro since it was acting up. I installed a new drive and restored it with Time Machine, but now my Boot Camp partition is still on my old drive. I slipped my old drive into a usb sata enclosure and tried booting from it in hope I could back it up with Winclone. When I went into the startup disk selector the drive would not show up (but it sounded like it was trying to spin up). Earlier when I pulled the drive out of my MacBook Pro it was still functioning fine, so I do not think the drive has failed.
Any ideas on how I can get the Boot Camp partition off the old drive? Thanks for your help.
    -Ryan

Some drives require more current to spin-up from a "cold start" than most USB ports put out, even if the port supplies. Additionally, if the drive is failing, it may require even more power for the startup.
I have a couple USB enclosures with external AC power that I keep around in case I run into drives like this. Failing that, I also have a couple of USB cables which use 2 ports to provide additional current. Also the cable length, and gauge makes a difference.

boot camp will not open says bootcamp has quit unexpectedly any help

Is this on OSX or Wndows Control Panel?
If you modified BCA info.plist by hand, and did not codesign it properly (see man codesign and the --deep qualifier), you will see this error.
Changing this file to allow USB creation is not very beneficial on Macs which originally came with a built-in Optical drive.

I am currently using Windows 8 and also have Microsoft office installed but those are the only thing on my partitioned space.  I don't know if I installed 32 or 64 version of Windows 8.  Could that be the problem?

Can you deal with XP not being supported by Apple and Microsoft? no security etc?
Can you use Windows in a VM instead of natively?
All the drives other than the one with XP will need to be pulled.
Always have backups of your system, clone that you can boot from.
Boot Camp 3.0 was the last supported. You don't need OEM 10.4.6 DVD and your system with EFI and SMC updates (Aug/Sept 2007) may not like it.
32-bit version of Windows on EFI-32 will only get 1.9GB RAM.
Installing 64-bit Windows 7 is a bit harder. Vista pre-SP1 64-bit was the best match for install on my 1,1 and that was 2006-2007.
The new owner needs to deal with this, not you. And really they are better off with a $400 PC instead. Or use a VM.
the owner should put in a new SSD for the system and $44 buys 4 x 2GB RAM. Together it will run just fine. 500GB SSD now $250 / $135 250GB. Biggest issue is a video card on these.
The grey screen - you upgraded the graphic card perhaps.
Unplug everything. Hit power for 5-10 seconds. Reconnect cables for mouse/kb and power, and monitor. You just reset SMC. Yes there is a small button - pull drive #4 and any controller in top slot #4 to see the SMC motherboard reset button but you don't need to.
Any PCIe cards can also play a role and factor into XP or Windows not working.
