Dear Bad Monk,
Here you have al least two ways ahead. 1- backup and restore and 2 - backup, instal and migrate.
First way... do a disk clone to external drive, test it (booting from external to see if it's all ok), replacing your internal drive (take care about statics, and yes now you have 2 backups - the external and the internal you removed), booting to Leopard DVD and instead a new install, you use disk utility to restore your all-ready system from external drive backup, a lot of people like to use super duper or carbon copy clone to do this. (http://www.macinstruct.com/node/130)
Second way... do a disk clone (or backup) to external drive, test it, replace internal disk drive, install Leopard from scratch (called clean install from DVD), when it asks if you want to migrate your data from another mac or disk, point to your backup disk, if I'm not wrong, Leopard DVD will bring from your backup all your stuff, your user directory (all your docs, pictures and movies) and apps (iLife and others you have at applications folder). You will still need to install all updates to Leopard through software update (if you system is up to date, you skip this at the first way above).
You can always use your factory Tiger disk to install factory apps that came with new mac (iLife, etc), you DON'T HAVE TO INSTALL TIGER FIRST. You can install Mac OS X from Leopard disk and use you factory Tiger disk only to install the apps (iLife is part of the new Mac, not part of the OS).
I've done it when I update to Leopard (the 2nd way), and left the tiger bootable partition in external for some time, but had never to use it.
Best regards

Email itunes support! Or you could just transfer your purchases. Either w/ external drive, or w/ you iphone/ipod/ipad!

If you made a backup before you restored it you can restore your iPhone from a backup and your game data should be restored.  When you connect your iPhone in iTunes you can right click on it in the sidebar and select restore from backup.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CANT DELETE MY APPLE ID I JUST GOT A NEW AND NO LONGER NEED THE OLD 1 HELP PLEASE

As far as I know they can't be deleted, just remove any personal info from it (credit card details etc) and stop using it.
If you downloaded any content via it then you will need to remember it and it's password, as content is tied to the account that bought/downloaded it, so if you move to a new computer you'll need to authorise the account on it if you want to use any of its content there (or if you bought apps with it you'll only be able to download updates to them via that account)

I tried to put ios 7 on my ipad 2 but then it took me to recovery mode then I got the new itune and tried to restore it but then it stops in the middle

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so Contact Apple in your Country to Purchase a Snow Leopard Disc...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    In the US...
    1-800-MY-APPLE or 1-800-676-2775
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

Does the original library file still exist on the computer?  Hopefully when creating the new library it was done in a seperate folder as I do not believe iTunes allows for two library files in the same location.

I'm going strictly from memory on this one, since it's been a while since I did it. I apologize in advance if I leave out a step or two. The first thing I did, before removing the internal HD, was to plug in an external HD and save a copy of the internal HD. I used Carbon Copy Cloner, but there are several packages that work just as well. Then I set the external as my boot drive to make sure that I had a bootable copy. After that, I removed the internal HD and replaced it with the larger one. Then I booted back into the external and formatted the new internal HD. After that, it was a simple matter of cloning the OS back onto the new internal, setting it as the boot drive, and rebooting. So far as I can tell, your new HD isn't Mac formatted yet, so I don't think you'd be able to copy an OS onto it, even from the install CD, just IMHO.
Your steps will work, but you have an extra clone in there. When I replaced my drive, I put the new drive in an enclosure, then used SuperDuper! to clone the internal to the new drive. Then I simply swapped drives and that's it.

  • Can't boot MBP. New HDD worked for a day, back at square one

Out of no-where my MBP froze after bring it out of sleep mode. I held down the power button and when turning it on it stuck at the grey spinning circle screen. I tried:
    1) reset PRAM
    2) booting to recovery partition and repair permissions and disk.Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
    3) booting to 10.7 CD that I made from my Lion AppStore download and repairing permissions and disk. Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
I had a spare drive lying around so I opened it up and replaced the drive. Booted to the Lion DVD, formatted the drive and install Lion. Everything installed no problems. After the install I downloaded all of my applications and starting restoring all of my data from a backup drive. After getting almost all of my things set up to my liking the machine hung. I held down the power button and then pressed power again to turn on the machine. After the Apple logo screen the dreaded flashing question mark came onto the screen.
I can take either of these two HDDs and place them into an enclosure and read/write data on the disk without a problem so it seems unlikely that I had two bad (flaky) HDDs. I tried inserting my 10.6 and 10.5 install discs and holding D before the grey screen to start the hardware diagnostics tool but it just boots onto a black screen with a white cursor in the top left corner. I'm afraid to let it sit at this screen too long because the machine gets pretty hot near the display hinge.
    Any ideas?

I tried that earlier but I guess I didn't wait long enough. I wasn't factoring in that the load time would be slower booting it via USB. If it's just that cable that would be great. It's ironic if that's the problem because I replaced that cable 6-8 months ago because my sleep indicator stopped working. I may have the old one, if not I'll order one since it's only a $30-40 part and let you know if that resolved it.

So, long story short, I recently switched from mac to windows and have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed on my (old) mac.
I would like to install Photoshop CS5 on my new computer. Do I need a new activation code, or, more importantly, do I need to purchase Photoshop again since I have the mac version?

  • I got a new phone and it won't back up anything on to my icloud because it says there isn't enough storage space, can I delete old back ups?

I am not good with technology at all. I upgraded my 3GS to a 4S and now it won't back up to my iCloud. it keeps telling me that the icloud is full and I don't have enough room to back it up.I was wondering if there is away to delete the old back ups in order to free up space?

If you no longer need the backups, you can delete them by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of device you want to delete the backup for (under Backups at the top), then tap Delete Backup.  This will permanently delete it from your account, freeing up the storage it occupies.
