If I have 10.5.0 can I upgrade free to latest rev?

I am brand new to Macs. Seems like there is something you can click on in the OS's that will update you to the latest in that version? I know for ex. you have to buy the next release like 10.6 and can't upgrade from earlier version. So, if I buy a Mac with less than 10.5.8 will I be able to update to .8?

That said, I recommend getting the 10.5.8 combo update:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
That will make sure you get all the patches in between.
And follow these upgrade tips*:

You need a newer 2011 or later iMac to use Airplay.
    Sorry.
For older Mac, look at an app called AirParrot

If you use the organizer, you need to buy the boxed version of PSE 12. You can usually find it at big box stores and online retailers for less than adobe's upgrade price, if you shop around. You need the boxed version because you get a serial  number that works on both platforms, and you will need to install PSE 12 in windows first, upgrade your catalog, then make a full backup to a removable drive and restore from that to the mac, after installing PSE 12 there.
If you don't use organizer, it doesn't matter.

  • I have a six year oldG4 laptop which will not support the latest free Adobe flashdrive.  Can I upgrade to the latest OS X?

I have a G4 iBook which cannot support/download the new Adobe Flash update.  Can I upgrade to the latest OSX?

Can I upgrade to the latest OSX?
No. It may possibly run leopard OS 10.5 but that would be as far as you can take a PPC Mac.
    As regards Flash Player:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

When I tried, it said I had to have 10.6 or later............how do I get there?

No. You need to phone the online Apple Store and order Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD.

You need Snow Leopard before you can go to Lion...

No problem, provided you have at least 1GB of memory (RAM), you can upgrade to Snow Leopard without difficulty.

A standard installation of SL will only replace the system files, leaving all your data and preferences intact.
But! Things have been known to go wrong, so I strongly advise backing up your current system to an external HD with the Restore function in Disk Utility before starting the installation.

  • How can I upgrade to the latest version of Minion Pro (with a full set of superior letters)?

I purchased Minion Pro a long time ago and love it, except ... it uses the ISO set of superior letters. I transcribe a lot of 17th- and 18th-century documents, and they use superior letters not in the ISO set. In Minion Pro Read Me it says that version 2.030 created 2007/08/16 has a full alphabet of superior letters. How can I upgrade from my version of Minion Pro without a full superior alphabet to a version with a full alphabet? --Thanks!

I believe you're referring to an item on Minion Pro's Release Notes document. I've checked the latest version of this family and I'm sorry to tell you that Minion Pro does not have a full set of superiors. The comment in the Release Notes is incorrect.

I originally purchased my Adobe CS software for Windows - I recently have switched to Mac . . . so I am forced to upgrade my CS software. Can I use the upgrade discount of $29.99 a month and switch platforms?

  • I have mac pro quad can i upgrade from leopard to lion on one of the hardrives and then drag all my protools sessions into from the leopard hardrive to the lion hardrive thanks

i run a commercial recording studio since 2009 and purchased a mac pro quad core with os x 10.5.8 and record with protools,   it has now got to the point where i can no longer purchase plugins for protools because the operating system is to old i need at least snow leopard ,i have never upgraded and am concerned about losing any previous protools sessions and plugins ,it has been suggested to me to upgrade just one of the hardrives to snow leopard or lion or the latest system and then just open a protools session on the old osx hardrive and save to the new upgraded hardrive , is this possible? or has anyone any suggestions ,many thanks

You should seriously consider establishing a Boot drive, with only System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files (including Paging/Swap) on it. User files are moved off to another drive.
This makes maintaining the System and maintaining your User files much easier, and it makes your Mac faster in every way.

  • HT1338 i have iWork '08 and can not upgrade to '09 no update available??

I try to purchase from the app store and it says I already have pages on my imac (which i do '08).  I'm trying to purchase '09 but it won't allow me to.  I tried to look for software updates, but it says none are available.  What do I do?

iWork '08 documents can be opened with the newest iWork version, so you won't lose anything
The new iWork apps cannot open iWork '08 or earlier files. They can only open iWork '09 or newer files.
    For the OP:
I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon or eBay then you can update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store for free. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available. Or contact Apple. They made this mess, let them fix it.

  • If i have a 4th gen can i upgrade to a 5th gen and have them both on same acc so my husband can have my old one?

if i give my husband my old 4th gen ipod touch and upgrade to a 5th gen can they run on same account?or do i have to have seperate account?

You can use the same account. However, if y want seperate contacts, calendar, Messages, be able to FaceTime one another
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
