If I have a 2010 mac if I were to add memory let's say made in 2012 would that affect the mac?

(My macbook pro is a mid 2010)
I am wondering if it would recognize the Memory strip. I know that Apple does not support anything above 8 gigs, but I heard that it still works. I am not familiar with hardware (but I love software). Thanks

The memory has to match what the machine is looking for as far as speed, latency, and a number of other things. You can't just stick anything in there. I know what you're referring to, I have the same model and I've seen the same articles. If you're determined to try, go to Crucial.com and look up what they say you should have as a max, then see if you can find those same specs for 16 gig.
