a computer? This is not a philosophical question of whether or not the iPhone can handle my computing needs. Let's just assume it can. My problem is that I have an iBook that is going strong, but who knows for how long? So, if the iBook goes kaput, would I be able to use my iPhone (3GS) for months without plugging it into a computer? I mean, it does download songs, movies and apps right to the phone -- so is it absolutely essential that an iPhone owner also have a computer to plug the phone into?
A smart person would have a computer so they could sync the phone and have a backup if something goes wrong. A computer is also required to install firmware updates to the iPhone.

I need the contents of particular messages for evidence in court. How do I get into the internal storage? If you still have a backup from that point in time as part ofr your computer backup history, you could restore the backup folder, restore the phone from that backup and have the messages on the phone.

Close out of the message app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
Then do a reset, no data loss. Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for your phone to boot back up.
Then check and see if you can save the pic. -

When i restarted the phone it said welcome and set up screen came up. I also went back into the website and could no longer find my device. Why am i being told that the phone is still connected to my itunes? Now this woman's slamming me on ebay. I seriously just want to cry.

Myself and my girlfriend use the decipher textmessage program. She's on windows and I use the version for my macbook pro. It works cool and lets you save your text messages from your iphone to your computer. I've actually recovered a few deleted messages with it too which was helpful since I'm a laywer and needed them for work. Their site is:

You didn't need MobileMe for your iPhone either, per se. What was it about the service that caused you to sign up? Was it the "Find My iPhone" service? If so, that would still be perhaps useful for the iPod touch, though since the iPod has no GPS locations may be less accurate.
