If I have cellular capabilities turned on, can I send a text message to any type of cell phone thu iMessage?

If I have cellular capabilities turned on, can I send a text message to any type of cell phone using iMessage? Or do I need a app such as Text Plus to do this.  I have a New iPad.  Thanks for any info.

iMessagel is basically an online chat kinda service. It does not use a carrier service to send text message. It only does instant messages. At least on the iPad side. iPhones are given to choise of sending via iMessage and text depending on the receiver.

  • I can't send a text message with this new iPad 3

I cannot send a text to a friend with an older iPhone.  I tried turning iMessage off but it keeps prompting me to log in instead of sending the text via SMS with my cellular plan.  Any suggestions?

So you did not read about iMessage before you bought the iPad? If you did, you would know that you can only text other iOS 5 users.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#imessage says:
    iMessage
iPad and iPod touch join the conversation.
With iMessage, we’ve created a new messaging service for all iOS 5 users. You can send unlimited text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to anyone with one of those devices. iMessage is built into the Messages app, so you can send text, photos, videos, locations, and contacts. Keep everyone in the loop with group messaging. Track your messages with delivery receipts and optional read receipts, see when someone’s typing, and enjoy secure encryption for text messages. Even start a conversation on one of your iOS devices and pick up where you left off on another.

  • Why can I send a text message from my iPad mini from my contacts?

I try to send a text message from my contact list on my ipad mini ,
the contact name comes up in pink.....Can you tell me why?

    Hi,
Because you are choosing an Contact ID (iPhone Number or Apple ID) that is either not registered or currently unavailable.
A iPhone away from WiFi connection may also be out of range of it's Cell/mobile Service. (Or Switched Off or in Airplane Mode).
An iPad may not be on a Wifi Network  at present. (or run out of Power)
You may know a Buddy's email and it may also be an Apple ID but that does not mens that they have "registered" it for iMessages.

  • I can't send a text message to one of my contacts

I have entered the name and cell phone number correctly for one of my contacts but when i bring up the info in messaging the send button stays grayed out

The person that you want to reach must be setup and registered to use Messages on their own device before you can reach them and Messages only works with other iOS users and Macs running Mountain Lion. If you know that they are setup for Messages go to Settings>Messages>Show Subject Field>Off. Make sure it is turned off.

  • Can not send SMS text message.

Hi, I'm a BlackBerry user for 4 years now and this is the first time that I have a problem with SMS text messaging. My precious BB is a Q10.
The problem is that I can receive SMS messages but I can not answer and I can not send messages. When I tap the 'send' icon or press Enter nothing happens. My message dissapears and i can not see in the upper window, below the message that I've previously receive and I wanted to aswer for.
Also, I can compose SMS message, but when I press Enter or tap send, nothing happens. No message in the hub, or in the text messages folder.
I've rebooted the device, reloaded the OS, but didn't help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step 1 should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive
    2) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Can I send a text message to a group in iCloud?

I have groups set up in iCloud contacts but I can't figure out how to use them effectively. For example I have a group of boys on a sports team in a group but I can't select the group as a whole to send them a text message, I have to add them
individually then go back to that string. Am I making this to hard?  What's is the use of having groups if you can't use them?

There are apps that allow you to address sms messages to groups (such as Speed Names: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speed-names-contacts-groups/id285124918?mt=8), but not iMessages.  Perhaps this will change with a future iOS update.
The only point of having them at the moment is to allow you to limit the view to only contacts belonging to a group, so that you can more easily add the individual members of the group.  But at the present time, you still have to add them individually.

  • I can't send a text message from my new iPhone 5 ??

what the merucal to send text message

    Hi Friend,
Which kind of message you can't send? Is iMessage?
Be sure you do not turn on Restrictions in your device.
    For Messages:
Turn off Show Subject in Settings>>Message
Reset the Network Setting, which makes your phone to forget every networks and passwords that you connected your phone to.
to reset the Network Settings just go to Settings - General - Reset (at the bottom) - Reset Network Settings.
I remember when I reset the Network Settings, i turned off iMessages. I connected to my home Wi-Fi and surfed the web for a little while. Sent some regular SMS messages, and about 10min later, I turned on iMessages again and sent a text to a friend with an iPhone and it started working as iMessage! Baloons finally became blue.
    For iMessages:
Try to unsign and sign in again.
For iMessage chosse to use your Apple ID instead of your mobile number.
Go to Settings>>Message>>Send&Receive and check if your Apple ID was set or not. If not, set it properly.
If it is still not working, unsign your Apple ID and select your mobile number ("+" "country code" "mobile number").
    Hope it will be helpful

  • I blocked a number then unblocked it and now I can't send them text messages but I can call them. What's wrong?

I blocked a friends number when we fought but now were friends and I unblocked. Why can I still not text him?

    Hi Felicia913,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps first if you are not able to send text messages to a specific contact:
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact from the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.

    All the best,

  • Full Service but can't send/recieve text message or make/receive call

I've got full service, but I cannot make or receive calls/texts. I'm in the same location that i've been able to do so since I got the phone. Help?

I have had this same exact problem.  Internet access is fine over 3G or wireless but I am unable to make phone calls or send text messages.
I have tried both removing the battery for 30 seconds while the phone is on and restarting the device and  *228, with both option 1 and 2 and none of these fixes have worked.

  • I had to reset my IPhone 5 after the new IOS update because I was not getting phone calls. Now I no longer have the microphone on my keyboard for emails or text messages. Any suggestions on where to go to fix this?

I had to reset my IPhone 5 after the new IOS 7.2 update because phone calls were not coming through. Now I no longer have the microsphone on the bottom of my key pad to do voice texts.

Can any one tell me how to put it back on there?

  • I just did a update on my Iphone 5..now when i send a text message,it repeats back under my phone number..how can i stop this?

my texts are repeating back to me under my number, why?

There are multiple reasons why the update failed, unless you can provide an error message/code that came up then nodbody will know.
Now your iPhone is in recovery mode and will now need to be connected to a computer with iTunes and restored to factory settings. This will install the update at the same time.
If you have a back up of the iPhone before the issue occurred then after the restore to fqactory settings you can restore the back up to the iPhone. If there was no back up then I'm sorry your data is gone.
