If I launch Airplay it cripples my wifi

Upgraded to 4.2.1. WiFi works fine as before but if I try to use airplay to apple TV 2 WiFi ceases to work. I have to reboot the ipad to get it working again. Anyone else found this

I'm actually seeing this issue with an iPhone 4 and AppleTV v2.
Once launching iPod and using Airplay, audio will send fine for roughly 20-30 minutes. After this, and at a random time (middle of a song) the wifi on my iPhone will crash, and I cannot reconnect to my wireless network.
MacBook Pro will still browse web normally during this time. When trying to reconnect to wireless network on the iPhone 4, says "Unable to connect to Wireless Network"
A reboot of the phone will fix this, but sometimes, the wireless router needs to be rebooted.
Wireless router is not cheap (retails at $199) and is an N draft.

    My iPad 4 does not show up on my TV screen when in AirPlay mirroring mode using WiFi.  The iPad displays AirPlay set to TV with the Mirroring On (green).
    My iPad IOS software is 8.2 and my Apple TV software is at 7.1.  The TV displays the Apple Menu.  The “Settings” does however displays the General menu allowing me to see:
    Apple software:          7.1 (7003)
    Apple TV:                   Model No. A1464, Part No. MD199B/A
    Signal Strength shows 5 circles.
    It does not display the iPad screen but when I use the BT Sport App I can hear the sound but there is no video.  I have searched the internet for a solution to no avail. The problem first arose when the IOS was at 8.1+ but it worked correctly briefly when I updated to IOS 8.2.  Can you help please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Do Apple have any plans to launch anything to convert a wifi only ipad2 to 3g?

    I'm wondering if I made the wrong decision in buying the wifi only ipad 2...
    Does anyone know if Apple have any plans to launch anything to convert the wifi only ipad2 to 3g?
    If not, is it possible to part exchange in order to upgrade anywhere in the UK?
    Vicki

    As others have said you can get either a Mifi from 3 mobile or a similar Novatel Wireless device from Orange
    These devices use a 3G SIm card .
    They connect to the 3G , GPRS or Edge mobile network convert the mobile signal to broadcast a secure WIFI signal just about anywhere.
    You can connect your iPad and upto 5 other Wifi devices simulataniously.Your Laptop perhaps !
    This is the Orange device

  • Apple TV internet no Airplay from IPAD despite WIFI router

    Hi,
    My Apple TV2 is connected to my Ethernet wired network, there is a Netgear Modem Router on this network that allows DHCP and WIFI access WPA2 secured.
    The Apple TV can connect to the Mac to share the itune Library over wired ethernet.
    My Ipad connect to the same Netgear throught Wifi and I can access every Mac on the ethernet network with all apps.
    BUT No way to connect iPad Wifi to the wired ethernet connected Apple TV, I mean iPAD wifi to the netgear router to ethernet wire to the Apple TV, exactly what I do for mac's and pc's that are ethernet connected to the netgear Router.
    My iPad can connect to MAC with the same network for screen sharing with decicated Apps.
    If I unplug the apple TV from Ethernet wire and I configure WIFI, my Ipad connect instantly to the apple TV for Airplay or remote.
    Wifi is far too slow for Video display, you have to wait a lot before it start and it jitters, so I need the fester connection of my 1GB ethernet network from Apple TV to MAC, this is working well but then I cannot use ipad airplay...
    every Item is using DHCP from the netgear.
    I hope this is clear enought.
    Did anyone succeded in implementing such a network configuration???
    Does Apple TV neeeeddss direct WIFI for using Aiplay from iPad  (it's the same for iPhone by the way) ??? WHY  (performance, bonjour, marketing lock ??)
    Is there a way (by Jailbreak?) to enable ethernet wiring and Wifi on the Apple TV???
    Tahnk you for your help
    Regards
    Luis

    The netgear router did not work properly with apple TV, I disconnected its WIFI and use it only as a modem for internet cable to ethernet local network, so no wifi.
    I bought a time capsule that I included in my ethernet local network and used its wifi as a bridge for wifi devices (ipad iphones) to local network with internet acces through the modem router.
    Then I connected my apple tv2 to my ethernet local network.
    With this configuration my ipad or iphone can through time capsule wifi access ethernet local network and use apple TV2 to display ipad/iphone screen/video on my TV. superb indeed...
    regards

  • Can you help with why my Ipad, when streaming with Airplay, drops off my wifi extender?

    Hi, I use a wifi extender to get better coverage down the back of my house. When close to my router, I use airplay  from my ipad on my regular network, streaming to my marantz sr5007. It works perfectly. When I'm in the backroom, I choose the extender network for my ipad (network.ext) to stream music using airplay. After a few minutes (normally 3 but it's been up to 20minutes), the music stops and the ipad shows it's back on it's own speaker. No music is playing. I can then choose the marantz again, the music will start. Two minutes later the same thing happens.
    This only happens when on the SSID of the extender. Strangely, when I use itunes on my pc to stream music, and place it on the extender SSID, it's stable and keeps the connection to the marantz.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks very much. I'm going to contact Netgear when I get home to see if they've got any ideas.
    I'll also try to use a static IP for the marantz. That seems to have helped a couple of people.
    Thanks again.

  • Hooking up a Marantz M-CR603 with Airplay functionality to my wifi network

    Hi!
    The Marantz has got Airplay functionality but hasn't got wifi so it needs to connect with an ethernet cable.
    I have a wifi network set-up that uses a Time Capsule as the router, a 3rd gen Airport Express to extend the network and finally a 1st gen Airport Express. I have connected the Marantz to the latter with an ethernet cable. Most days this works but a lot of the time the marantz device drops out of the list of available airplay devices and the playout is often broken up. Very unstable. All devices are updated w latest firmware. Unfortuntaley the fiber (100/10) enters the apartment elsewhere so need to connect the marantz stereo w wifi. Or isn't this possible? How can I make the airplay work with no downtime and make it more stable? All help appreciated! If I connect an audio cable to the marantz I can get playback using the airport express airplay and that is generally more stable but not perfect either.
    Many thanks,
    Ken

    This device will convert an Ethernet connection to a Wi-Fi one.

  • Airplay from 4S crashes Wifi

    When I use the iPhone4S Airplay function in my home network, it will play music for about 30secs, then the Wifi will cut out - for all devices - the indicator light on my Airport Extreme blinks yellow until it - so I assume - reboots and all is fine. Until I use Airplay again.
    Streaming music from iTunes from either my macbook or my macpro works fine. iPhone not at all.
    Using Airport Extreme & Airport Express, none prompt me to update their firmware.
    Other people seem to be having the same issue: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1257699
    Any ideas on fixing this?

    Sorry, but that's just a ridiculous thing to say. The fact that an issue is intermittent or dependent on other variables does not mean its not an issue.  You have provided an opinion with no data and no help.  If you can't contribute to a solution, please abstain from this thread.
    If a device on a network can crash a router/WAP, the issue is with that router/WAP is there is no "crash the network" command within the Wi-Fi protocol.
    That's why there are networking standards; if properly adhered to they dictate what will occur when commands are received and commensurately, the only things that will happen.
    Feel free to fill out the form and peruse the actual specifications of the protocol yourself if you so choose; there's no "crash network" option.

    Whether the router is Apple's or another vendor's, it needs to be able to deal with whatever traffic/commands are sent to it.

  • Happy accident?: AirPlay available on separate wifi networks

    I have an apple airport express version 2011 hooked up to my ISP issued Zyxel modem/router. I use the airport express for a 5ghz signal that I use to stream Netflix and then mirror back onto apple tv for viewing in the living room. From my tests I need the 5 ghz to handle the bandwidth requirements to stream Netflix to laptop and then stream back to apple tv.
    The drawback is that I can't have my iPhone 4 on the same network because it doesn't support 5ghz. Nevertheless I have my Zyxel modem/router shooting a 2.4 ghz signal. While the iPhone 4 is  connected to the modem/router wifi network, I am able to send music from my iPhone 4 to airport express even though they are on separate wifi networks (although the airport express is connected to Zyxel modem/router through an Ethernet cable).  The airplay icon occasionally disappears and a restart of the phone or app does not make it reappear.
    What gives? Fom the apple literature, this is not supposed to be possible. I am wanting to understand this because I will soon buy a dd wrt flashed router and if my current setup is more than a mere fluke, I'll purchase a cheaper router with the intention of hardwiring apple tv while using iPhone 4 as a remote on a separate wifi network. That way I won't have to buy a more expensive router simply to have a dual band network going. I plan to use the dd wrt router with VPN installed to stream Netflix to apple tv directly. too bad VPN services do not support installation on airport extreme.
    Your insights are appreciated. Thanks.

    Interesting hypothesis B-rock.  I could try contacting the network administrator but my guess is that I'll be met with a blank look when I ask for that! Still can't be bad to try!
    Another piece of "anecdotal" evidence for you.  At the local garden centre (which is part of a chain) I used to be able to connect - no problem.  Then suddenly all connections failed - at all locations.  I am leaning towards believing that they have changed routers to more "modern" ones and for some reason these new routers won't allow connection to an iPod/iPad etc.  As yet I cannot confirm this or otherwise and unless someone comes up with a bright idea I'm left with the feeling that unless the network administrator recognises that he/she needs to create a network that works with iPads/iPhones etc we're doomed.  I noticed that the next table over using a PC had no problems!  Grrrr.

  • HT5922 Airplay problems on certificate Wifi

    Hi, i have installed a profil on my AppleTV and added a certificate for our WIFI network, this seems to works as intended. but nowi cant use AIrplay from my macbook air ? all systems are fully update.

    Ive tried all that, have switched from 802.11 b/g to b and g on their own, changed the broadcast frequency channel of the router and nothing seems to work.
    if i hard reset or soft reset the phone  the wifi will kick in for a minute and then once i try to use facebook or anything that requires BIS to authenticate it the wifi cuts out again.
    so its clearly a phone or BIS issue as the phone is connecting to my routher and is saying its authenticated and the router is showing the same. so once it gets beyond the phone and router theres a problem in the connection.

  • Can I connect an external hard drive to my Airport Express and share it to store files on between two machines via the usb port. The machines are a MacBook and a fairly new Win machine. Printers and Airplay as well as wifi work perfect.

    Wondering about the above.

    ... I bought a hard drive at an Apple store because they told me I could hook it up through my Airport express.
    Bzzt. Nope. Bring it back.
    Read: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2421
    Question: What is an AirPort Express?
    Answer: An AirPort Express is a Wi-Fi base station. Besides acting as an Internet access point, it has several specialized features which make it ideal for specific needs.
    Printer - Act as a wireless interface for one printer connected to the USB port, making it available to your network
    "Hook it up" - in the sense that a wireless device may be wirelessly "hooked up" to an Express - is a different matter; like "hooking up" with a friend.

  • Airplay without WiFi

    We have an ipad mini  with iOS 8.1 and apple tv A1469 with os 7.0.2. We are trying to make airplay work without using wifi but it appears not to work unless wifi is connected to both. Airplay is advertised to work without wifi so can anyone tell me what the problem is?

    Not without wifi, no.
    If you have wifi but don't have an internet connection you can still AirPlay non-protected content.

  • Airplay not enabled unless I enable WiFi

    On a late 2012 Mac Mini, updated with OSX 10.8.2, iTunes 11.01.
    I cannot see my AirPlay devices in either iTunes or the menu bar at top unless I enable Wifi. That seems silly since all my airplay devices are connected by Ethernet. Is there anyway to have airplay without turning on wifi?
    This is perfectly repeatable...enable wifi, can see devices, disable wifi, airplay goes away.
    Thanks

    Hi, I think it's the whole reason the name starts with Air...
    Apple wants you to stream music and movies all over your home network. And they want you to do it wirelessly. And of course, they want you to use Apple AirPlay to do it.
    http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/airplay.htm
    As long as your computer and the device you want to connect to are on the same WiFi network, you'll see the names you've given the devices in the menu that appears when you click the AirPlay icon.
    http://ipod.about.com/od/usingairportexpress/ss/airtunes-use.htm
    Not that I think it should be Wifi only... just reporting the way it is.

  • Why do I not see the Airplay icon on any device?

    Hello everyone
    None of my Apple devices show the Airplay icon anymore.  The devices I have are :
    *  Apple TV 2nd Gen (MC572B/A - v5.3)
    *  MacBook Mid 2007 13-in running OS X Lion 10.7.5
    *  MacBook Late 2009 13-in running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    *  2x iPhone 4S (both running iOS 6.1.3)
    Other non-Apple devices are 2x 2013 Amazon Kindles, a PS3, Sky HD+ Box w/Wireless Receiver.
    I received my Apple TV in Christmas 2011 and I had not noticed a problem with Airplay until I got Sky in February 2013.  My network was running on WEP connection as both of the MacBooks had problems using WPA/WPA2 connections when initially setting up the Wifi a couple of years before.  It turned out that the Sky box would only play with a WPA connection.  It's from here that Airplay stopped working.  Previously we could use everything associated with Airplay - stream music from all devices, send pictures and video, and also stream content from iTunes to the Apple TV including films and TV Programmes.  Our Apple devices can now connect to the Internet using a WPA connection (the 2007 MacBook cycles for a long time but that is another issue) so this is not a problem, and it's worth noting that all of my non-Apple devices work absolutely perfectly and always have done (also including previous smartphones etc).
    I have tried the following solutions :
    *  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215 (Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring);
    *  Changing the DNS Servers (Unsuccessful);
    *  Restarting the Router (AirPlay icon showed for less than 15 minutes before disappearing again);
    *  Restarting Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Toggling AirPlay in Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network in Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network on my 2007 MacBook and manually adding it (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network on both iPhone 4S' (Unsuccessful);
    *  Removing the Firewall from my router (Unsuccessful);
    *  Changing the security options on my router (Unsuccessful);
    *  Powering off all devices and back on (Unsuccessful);
    *  NOTE : Home Sharing is turned ON and is visible on Apple TV;
    What else can I try that isn't listed?  A follow up question is if I bought an Airport Express (I don't want to tbh), would that immediately solve the lack of AirPlay and cycling issues?
    Thanks in advance

    Just to finish this discussion off, the issue was 100% the router firmware.  Please see the below, direct from the support pages of www.plus.net :
    The  585v8 v8.2.7.7 firmware is known to cause wi-fi connectivity problems with certain Apple computers. To fix this problem we recommend that you upgrade to v8.2.7.8 that features updated wi-fi drivers from the chipset manufacturer. No official upgrade tool exists for Apple computers so you may need to reflash the firmware using a Windows computer instead.
    I did this yesterday after borrowing a PC and it fixed all of the issues I was having - no Airplay icons, cycling for wifi networks, dropped connections - all of these righted themselves after a firmware update.
    The reason it wasn't the first thing tried was that I was under the impression that a) my router had up to date firmware as it wasn't clear on my ISP's website, and b) that my router firmware would have updated automatically as there was no option to update on my routers settings page.
    The WEP security issues were a bit of a red herring tbh.  When I first joined my ISP downgrading the security was the advice given after I experienced initial connection problems, but this was probably due to a lack of updated firmware at the time - the issues had to be related to security which would have been solved by an open network.  Obviously this is not ideal, so a WEP connection was a wobbly middle ground.
    Thanks for everyone's help.

  • My Apple TV has no Wifi Signal

    I have been using Apple TV's airplay almost everyday using Wifi.  Suddenly, there was no Wifi signal from Apple TV at all.    Other machines like xbox, bluray, and TV have no problem and all have strong signal. Apple TV shows zero Wifi signal at all and I cannot even see its wifi Mac Address anymore. I have to connect the machine to my router using an ethernet cable so it can connect to my network.
    Is it broken? What should I do?  Any help please?

    hi, sorry for the late reply. the wifi suddenly dissappeared, so I plugged in the ethernet to update the software, reset, and/ or restore.  I did everything.  And still no luck after removing the ethernet cable in between changes.  The ATV got no wifi signal, no wifi address at all.  the status are all N/A.
    I'm returning it to Apple tomorrow.
    Thanks for all the comments.
