If I make a new Apple ID, will I lose my downloads and purchases from my old ID?

I got my first iPod (a nano) about 6 years ago and I was only 11 back then so my mom created an Apple ID for me. I've been purchasing music and apps from that account. I just recently got an iPhone and since my mom does not remember her account info (like her email - as we've discovered trying to use iCloud), I want to make a new ID. Please help.

You can't transfer an account's balance nor its purchases to another account - purchased will remain tied to the account that bought/downloaded them.
For his security questions, if he has a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on his account then he can go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into his account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side he should see an option to send security question reset info to hie rescue email address.
If he doesn't have a rescue email address (he won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then he won't get the reset option - he will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.
e.g. he can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset (and if he doesn't already have a rescue email address) he can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or, if it's available in your country, he could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

    1. No.
    2. Not as long as you're still syncing it with the same iTunes library. If you meant iTunes libraries and not iTunes Store accounts to begin with, you need to use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.

  • If I deauthorise my iPhone and put it on a new Apple ID, will I lose my apps and game scores?

My step-dad has bought yet another Apple product, and we're now over the 10 devices limit. He wants me to switch to my own ID instead, but will I loose all the paid apps I have bought, and all my game scores (some of them have taken me ages!!)?????
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, you will lose everything purchased under the old ID. You can't merge IDs.

If I make a new Apple ID will I loose all of my apps?

The apps will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased.  Your computers will need to be authorized for that account and you will have to use that account to upsate the apps.

  • If I create a new apple ID will I lose all the apps I have purchased with my original ID?

I set up FaceTime and Messages on four different devices with only one Apple ID. I used the exact method that is described in the video that AnaMusic has provided to you in the link in her response above.  That method worked fine for my family, but you can create new Apple ID's just to use for FaceTime and Messages if you like. Many users prefer doing that as opposed to adding new email addresses.
IMO - using unique email addresses (like in the video) makes sense, because we (my family) all have different email addresses anyway, and it was very simple to add each family members email address to both apps and remove my Apple ID email address as the contact address on each device.
BTW .... if you are using your Apple ID on both devices - your phone number should be the number that is showing in the settings - not you daughter's. Did you set up the Apps with your Apple ID?

  • When switching my iphone to a new apple ID will i lose my songs, apps, and imessages?

i currently share an itunes account with several people and devices. i would like to make my own apple ID. When switching my iphone to the new apple ID will i lose my songs, apps, and/or imessage conversations?

You need a valid/working email address in order to create an account.
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
Note that if yo chaghe acounts in Settings>iTunes and App Store media will NOT be deleted from the ipod but:
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

If I make an apple Id,will I lose my songs and apps?

You can create another Apple ID for yourself. The songs and Apps you bought will remain on your device. Whenever there will be an update to an App bought with your mum's Apple ID though, you will be prompted to enter her Apple ID and its password.
Same thing with the songs. If you delete them at anytime, a re-download will require her Apple ID and its password.
Apart from that, don't worry about creating a new Apple ID, you can have several different Apple IDs... just don't mess them up.

  • HT2731 if i set up a new apple id, will i lose all my previous downloads and purchases

My daughter has been using my email as her apple id and we want her to get her own.  If she creates
a new apple id, will she lose all her apps and music she has purchased?

As the others stated purchases are inexorably linked to the Apple ID used to purchase them.
An alternative solution is to create a new email address and Apple ID for yourself. The amount you have invested in purchases for your daughter vs. yourself will factor in this decision.
If she doesn't want to use your email address, Apple IDs can be changed - not transferred, but changed to an email address not already associated with another Apple ID.
One caveat to keep in mind is the age requirement for Apple IDs; thirteen years of age is the minimum. The only way for someone younger than that to legitimately have an Apple ID is for someone older to create one on her behalf.

In case you're not clear - iPad/iPhone storage, and iCloud storage, are totally separate. Buying more iCloud storage does not give you more storage space on your device. Your device has a fixed storage space for apps and data (e.g., 16GB - which is more like 12GB in real terms). iCloud storage just allows you to store more documents, mail, photos, etc, in the cloud.

  • If my iMessage is hooked up to my moms phones and I make a new Apple ID will my imessages still send to her phone?

Me and my mom have the same Apple ID. Recently she has started reading my iMessages from her phone since we have the same Apple ID. I've turned off my iMessage on my phone so she can't read my texts since they are just texts not iMessages. And I can't get her phone to uncheck my number off of her 'Send and Receive' options. My question is, if I create a new Apple ID and use that, will she still be able to  read my texts. When I created my new Apple ID, it's giving me two send and receive options: my number and my email. If I check off my number, even though it is still checked off on my moms phone, can she see them? I don't want to have to send iMessages and have it send as "[email protected]" I want it to say my number "xxx-xxx-xxxx" If anyone knows how to help me that's be great. thanks.

But my whole issue is that I can't get on my moms phone to turn it off. I'm asking even if I make a new Apple ID and under send and receive click on these two options,
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-25x-xxxx(my number)
[email protected](new Apple ID I made)
will my messages still be sent to my moms phone even though I'm using a different Apple ID.  because on hers, it has her number, my number and her Apple ID  all turned on. If I'm not making sense I'll try and explain better. But currently her send and receive looks like this:
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-79x-xxxx(her number)
    -248-25x-xxxx
    [email protected]

  • If I make a new Apple ID will I loose all my purchases on my old account?

My Apple ID isn't working as it keeps asking me for my security question and I have forgotten them so I go to send myself and email to reset them but i don't recieve the email. So if I make a new account will I loose my purchases on my old ID?

You will only be able to update the apps on the old account using that old account UNLESS you buy them all over again on the new account.
Apps are always tied to the account they were bought/downloaded on.

  • If I make a new apple ID, will I be able to transfer my credits and purchases?

Recently, my brother was given an iTunes Gift Card. Whenever he tries to purchase something, however, it asks for the answers to his security questions.
The problem is that he has no recollection of even answering these security questions. I have no idea how to answer them, nor do I know how to reset them as it asks for them before I can edit his security settings. I can't figure out what to do to fix this, so I've been contemplating creating a new account for him(since this account has my back-up email as the ID and he doesn't know how to change it, I don't think he'd want it anymore anyway). The only problem is that I am unsure as to how his credits and purchases can be transfered from this account to the new one. I don't want him to lose the $25 he earned to pay for this card, and I'm sure he'll get at me for it as well.
    Help?

  • If I get a new Apple ID, will I lose access to my current music?

I share an Apple ID with my parents.  Now that I'm on my own; I'd like to set up my own so I can pay for my own music.  If I set up my own account will I lose access to all my music and content, specifically the things that I've purchased? (I'm talking purely about iTunes and iPod Classic)
I am not well versed in technological iCloud-speak, etc. So simple explanations are greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

You won't lose the previous content, but it won't be transferred to the new Apple ID, and you may not be able to make in-app purchases from applications associated with the previous one.

  • HT204053 If I start using a new apple ID will I lose all my old purchases the next time I sync?

    Hello,
I'm really, really confused and I'd appreciate some advice.  I came here after searching for information on merging two apple IDs so let me start my saying that I understand that I cannot do this.  I get that.  The FAQ says I just need to start using my preferred Apple ID from now on.  How exactly do I do this?  Is it as simple as logging in with the preferred ID next time I purchase something?  If I do that, what would happen to all my purchases under the old Apple ID the next time I sync my devices?
Here is the background to my situation:
I created an Apple ID when I first got an iPod many years ago.  It was my e-mail address at the time.  All my iTunes purchases have been made with that ID.
I bought my first Mac a couple of years ago.  At the same time I purchased a MobileMe subscription.  My MobileMe subscription was later converted to an iCloud account.
I'm no longer with the ISP that provided me with the e-mail address used for my first Apple ID.  My only e-mail account is now my me.com address.
I tried to change my Apple ID to my new e-mail address but it said it couldn't be done because my me.com e-mail is already in use.
All my iTunes receipts go to my old e-mail address that I no longer have access to.  I'd like my receipts to go to my me.com address.
I have a MacBook Pro, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch (all synced through iCloud), I also have an iPod Shuffle.
In order to get my iTunes and App Store receipts to go to my me.com address, I think the FAQs are telling me that I need to start using my me.com address as my preferred Apple ID.  It seems to gives me an option of changing my e-mail address for communications but as soon as it realises that it is a me.com address it says I can't do it.
I'm concerned that if I just make make my next purchase with my me.com ID the next time I sync my devices I'll just have one song on there rather than my entire library.  Can somebody please guide me through this?

You need to retain the ID you are currently using for iTunes in order to retain access to your purchases. You should go to http://appleid.apple.com and log in using the iTunes ID, and add a contact address there - you could get a GMail account (free). You may be able to forward mail on from GMail to your @me.com address, I'm not sure about that.
You can continue to use the ex-MobileMe ID for iCloud - there is no problem about using two IDs in this way.
