If i open pages, numbers, keynote, iMovie, aperture, and iPhoto, they automatically update, even if there is no update
Hi, my name is farrell ivander, i have problems, if i open my keynote, numbers, pages, aperture, iMovie, or iPhoto, and garageband, they automatically get updated, even if there is no updates available from the app store... could somebody tell me what the heck should i do except go off-line when opening them? and i have tested it on my friend's mac, it doesn't need updates every time i open it! why is it just me?
(the only thing that can stop is that if i go offline mode)
macbook pro, 13 inch, late 2011, intel i5 2.4 GHz storage: 500 GB, memory, 4 GB.
What is your MacOS X version and Aperture version?
What are your "System Preferences > App Store" settings? Have you enabled automatic updates?
Do you have older versions of the apps in question installed? Perhaps on a different part ions of you system drive?

Pages, Numbers, Keynote issue with WebDAV
I am in need of your assistance as the new version of Keynote appears to be causing issues, and I am not sure where to go or what to do to report this.
Here is the situation.
We have a Sharepoint server running WebDAV services. Our students use WebDAV capable applications on their iPads such as Pages, Numbers, Keynote, WebDAV NAV +, etc. They create files using these apps on their iPads and then save them to their "WebDAV" folder on the SharePoint server. This is necessary so that students may access their files via the iPad in our LMS and turn in assignments via a digital dropbox. This has worked fine in the past until the update of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. In the past these apps on the iPad have always placed a single file on the server to which the students could go in and retrieve the file or send it to a digital dropbox in our LMS through a WebDAV connection between the LMS and the SharePoint server.
With the update of these apps on the iPad to the newest version, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote now place a folder on the SharePoint server of which it contains the following items: folder titled "Data", folder titled "Metadata", icon titled index.zip, icon titled preview-micro.jpg, icon titled preview-web.jpg, icon titled preview.jpg.
The issue is that now with this being a folder, students are no longer able to retrieve the file nor are they able to go into the LMS and send the file to a digital dropbox as it is now a folder and not a packaged file.
This is a serious setback to us as it renders Pages, Numbers, and Keynote useless since they can not use their iPads to retrieve or submit their assignments to a dropbox in an LMS or bring it back to the apps on the iPad.
As I said earlier, this worked perfectly fine prior to the new version of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.
I believe this to be a Pages, Numbers, Keynote issue as when I send the file from Keynote to the WebDAV folder as a PPT, everything works fine. Kind of hard to get the staff to use Keynote when all they see is the "PowerPoint" verson works with no issues. Also, this would be a poor work around for something that use to work in the past.
Anyone else experience this or have suggestions?
Thank you in advance.I'm not sure if this is exactly what your original post is about but I saw the comments under it talking about
getting the same notification over and over again that dropbox files were updated, like it's in a loop and won't stop. I also am seeing the properties.plist, index.zip and preview-micro.jpg as the updated file names when I click on my little dropbox icon on the top of my desktop. I am on a Macbook Air OS X 10.9 (Maverick). I've been using dropbox for a while and this seems to have started after I upgraded to Maverick.
I wrote to Dropbox and here is the process they had me follow to correct this problem, and it worked perfectly, so I thought I'd share (**the only step that I didn't do is step 4 because I couldn't find the dropboxhelpertools folder in my library):
Thank you for contacting Dropbox Support!
There appears to be a problem with the Dropbox software currently installed on your computer. I'm going to have you do a full reinstall and resync to attempt to fix the problem.First, make sure you save and quit ALL programs that access files in the Dropbox folder.
Here are the steps:
1. Download the newest version:
2. Stop the Dropbox desktop application (if needed)
- Click on the Dropbox icon.
- Choose Quit/Stop/Exit
3. Delete Dropbox meta-data folder:
- To delete this folder open a Terminal (Located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal for Mac OS)
- Copy and paste the following lines into the Terminal and press RETURN:
mv ~/.dropbox ~/.Trash/dropbox.old
- This will move the folder to the Trash and make it visible.
4. Delete the Dropbox Contextual Menu Item Plugin
- Open the Finder and select Go to folder... from the Go menu (or press Shift-Command-G)
- A dialog box should appear. Now copy and paste the following line into the box and press the return key:
/Library/
- Finally drag the DropboxHelperTools folder to the Trash and enter your Administrator password if prompted to complete this action.
5. Reinstall the Dropbox desktop application
- Open the Dropbox .dmg file and double click the Dropbox icon.
- Dropbox should appear in your menu bar.
- Relink your account. -
Getting organized with Aperture and iPhoto
Hmm, meanwhile it is a bit of a mess....
Imported my iPhoto library some times back into Aperture 1.1 (thus copied not referenced). So everything is in the rolls projects and referenced in folders/albums (the way Aperture imports an iPhoto library). New stuff is imported into Aperture projects, subdivided with libraries inside. So now I have the the same stuff e.g. "castles" as Aperture project and library (with actual pictures in the iPhoto rolls projects). Started to move the pictures out of the iPhoto rolls projects but that's a lot of work. I'm thinking of deleting the whole iPhoto library in Aperture and reimport it now as referenced pictures to get rid of the duplicates but I will loose any editing I did inside Aperture.
Before I start with this tedious task, I like to know, how you deal with the coexistence of Aperture and iPhoto on your system?
Then there is the other way round, using Aperture pictures in iLife. This can now easily be done with the Aperture preview pics, but the bad thing in this concept is, that you have to decide on the resolution of the previews before you actually know for which task you need them in iLife. For a slideshow you only need monitor resolution, for an iMovie 480p project even less, but for a calendar or book in iPhoto probably the full resolution of the master. So be on the save side and do full resolution previews of all pics wasting a lot of hard-disk space? Or do 1600x1200 previews for slideshows and movies and for books manually import full res versions into iPhoto? Or simply not doing previews at all and transferring all pictures with the resolution needed for the task prior to iPhoto? It would be great, if the iApps would treat the Aperture pics like smart objects in Photoshop, thus generating a preview in the resolution they need, but that is wishful thinking.
Again how do you deal with that?
Thanks for you comments.
Peter
Quad G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9) GT 7800The only way to use pictures in both is to use referenced files, and point both libraries at it. This will be a completely manual process -- both will point to the same RAW files, and you need to import them into both. iPhoto will create a JPEG version it works with, and Aperture will store its info.
There's work there. It's most typical to just stop using iPhoto when you have Aperture. As for previews, the full-resolution ones do take more space, but give you more flexibility. Still, the JPEG generated on quality 8 from a 10 MB RAW file may be 1-1.5 MB. You may worry about the extra space -- but be aware that iPhoto is creating JPEG versions of EVERY file as well. If you stop using iPhoto your net space if you do full res previews will be some sort of savings overall. -
Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?
Examples of what is going on:
1. In Pages, Numbers & Keynote, when I go to the media browser the Audio section reads "Open iTunes to populate this list" even after iTunes has been opened, .xml file has been replaced/repaired, etc AND Photo section reads "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list" even after iPhoto Library has been replaced and new default library created.
2. In iMovie, similar thing ... when I go to add photos or music to a movie the iTunes files aren't present and the iPhoto photos are missing with similar messages as in #1.
3. In iPhoto, similar thing ... when I go to add music to a slideshow it says to "Open iTunes to populate this list".
It is shocking to me that Apple would let something as simple as a pathway link to associated library files get this messed up on an upgrade, but what's even more surprising is that with the number of people who seem to be having this particular issue (and I can tell from all the research that I've done for weeks online that there are a lot of them) that there doesn't seem to be a single clear answer to fixing it anywhere on these community support forums. Most of what I've seen is rehashed advice from outdated issues. What I need is a simple answer to how do we get these programs to look for the correct location of the photo and music files because I sure can't seem to find any logical place to do that through the programs' preferences files or the system preferences window?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Here's the details on the software/hardware:
MacBook Pro
Mac OS X
Version 10.7.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
iTunes 11.0.4 (4)
iPhoto '11 9.4.3 (720.91)
iMovie '11 9.0.9 (1795)
Keynote '09 5.3 (1170)
Pages '09 4.3 (1048)
Numbers '09 2.3 (554)I have the same problem on a new MacBook Pro. I have not been able to access the iTunes library from iPhoto since I got this computer. I looked in the Preferences file and deleted the com.apple.iApps.plist but there was no com.apple.iApps.lockfile so I just deleted the iAPPs.plist and rebooted the computer. Still no iTunes available in iPhoto.
All my music is in iTunes and plays. After reading the above I brought up Pages and I was able to access music and insert a track into a document.
Do you have any suggestions. -
Can't Open Pages, Numbers or Keynote through iCloud on my PC
Went to my PC this morning and logged into iCloud. I noticed a new ICON for iCloud Drive. Never saw it before. I tried to open Pages to update a document and couldn't open Pages, Numbers or Keynote. I was greeted with the picture below.Without any warning Apple is telling me if I want to ever see these documents again on my PC I must update all my devices to IOS 8 immediately and then activate iCloud Drive on all devices. Not something I wanted to see on a day I needed my presentations for a client. How can we ever trust Apple again with significant documents? Have any of you experienced this?
For those of you who woke up this morning and tried to access Pages, Numbers or Keynote on your PC running Windows XP. Sorry the party is over and it ended without warning from Apple.
Here is an update just confirmed by an Apple Senior Advisor.
This is what Apple did without warning.
1. Took Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents and moved them to iCloud Drive making them NO LONGER AVAILABLE on a PC just by logging into iCloud.com.
2. Gave us an option to view them on a PC only after you upgrade all your devices that use those apps to IOS 8.
3. You then must activate iCloud drive on your devices and PC but only if you are not running WINDOWS XP because iCloud Drive is not supported on a PC running XP.
Conclusion, if you have a PC running WINDOWS XP hurray up and purchase WINDOWS 8 and upgrade your PC, then upgrade all your iDevices to IOS 8 then activate iCloud Drive and you may be able to once again see your documents on a PC. I don't know who will pay you for the day off to do all this but that's not Apples concern. They are to busy hyping the new iPhone to worry about keeping you in business. It's only their business that counts. -
I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook. Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox? I hope not!!If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

Problem with opening/saving files in Pages/Numbers/Keynote
Hello, First of all: sorry for my bad english.
I had this problem already several months ago and already contact with the Apple hotline.
The only thing that was said then and was helped "new user account" - well done.
But:
I can not do this every 3 months.
The problem: I can not open a Pages / Numbers / Keynote files anymore.
From iCloud / iCloud Drive it goes, locally stored open still.
I'll get the error: "File can not be opened."
Newly created files I can not save - no matter which hard disk - it will show "missing access rights"
Of course, I've already deleted preferences, reset NV-RAM and repaired permissions (access rights) - via terminal "reset password" also.
Anyone here knows this problem and knows a solution?
Thanks in advance.
configuration:
MacPro (2009)
2x2,93 GHz
24 GB RAM
SSD + HDD
OS 10.10.2I have solved the problem.
It occurred in connection with my scripture library „Font Explorer X Pro“. -
'Open in' not working for pages, numbers, keynote IOS6
Upgraded to IOS6 and now I can't open any documents from my works server. Before upgrade, I could log on to server, choose a file and open in numbers, keynote or pages depending on the file. Now when I click on open in e.g. Numbers, Evernote launches. Doesn't matter what I try to open whether it be keynote, pages or numbers, Evernote launches. When the document opens in Evernote there is nothing there to view. So I deleted Evernote and tried again. Now nothing happens. I press open in numbers, pages or keynote and nothing opens.
This issue does not happen when I try to open a file attachment from my emails. It just happens when I try to download something from my work server. It's never been a problem until I upgraded. There are no problems with my work server.
Any ideas? I can't access any of my documents and can't do any work! Thanks Apple.@Aceonace:
Thank you for your reply - looks like Apple raised the limit of "open-in-apps" only from 10 (per filetyp) to "18 minus x" ?!?
(I hoped they would completely give up the limit!)
@vchaney:
Did you too have to reduce the number of "PDF-file-apps" to "18 minus x" ?
And do I understand it right that the "to large" number of apps (with the ability to open PDF-files ...) DID create the described "open-in-problem" ONLY in Apples MAIL-APP but (for example) NOT in GoodReader ?
Thank you in advance. -
I cannot open pages, numbers or keynote on iCloud?
I cannot open pages, numbers or keynote on iCloud?
Hi..
Try this support article > iCloud: Troubleshooting Documents in the Cloud
If nothing there helped, and you are using Safari to access iCloud.com...
With Safari open, press Comand + Option + E on your keyboard to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari, try iCloud.com
If that didn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Then quit and relaunch Safari again, try iCloud.com
If that doesn't help, on your Mac, open System Preferecesn > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data then reselect it. Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data then try iCloud.com. -
Pages, Numbers and Keynote won't update. App Store says update was applied, but when I open Pages/Number/Keynote, the version of it shows the old version.
When you updated, the old version remained on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09. Any icons you have on the Dock still point to that old version. Try opening the Numbers that is located in your main Applications folder, not the one in the subfolder. If that works, then drag that one to the Dock.

Took delivery of imac yesterday with pre-installed Pages, Numbers and Keynote. App store says they need updating but won't let me because I've never owned the major version of the software. I have paid like anyone else, so why can't I update?
You must be signed into the Apple Store with your Apple ID or it won't work.

How to deal with a 100 Store Error:
Try here > Mac App Store: "An unknown error occurred (100)" when purchasing
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here;
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now here:
~/Library/Preferences/
Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist
com.apple.storeagent.pllist
Now here:
~/Library/Cookies
Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store. -

Pages, numbers, keynote
I have an iPad air. I have Pages, numbers, keynote installed. Each has reloaded on their own when I never deleted the app. Is this happening to anyone else.
How can you tell that they have "reloaded on their own"? Perhaps they never loaed properly the first time, and they just re-started teh download at a later time? I would need more information to try to tell what may be happening to you.
I have an iPad Air (64GB wifi+Cellular) and it doesn't seem to have those issues.
