If i purchase a new HDD, can i bring it into an apple store?

As said in the subject, is it possible to purchase a new HDD and bring it into an apple store to have it fitted and have data transfered?
Looking at upgrading form 250gb to 500gb.

I think you guys have basically nailed it so I'll pop into my local Apple store or related and see what they have to say!
I'm finding that my laptop is now finally doing what i bought it for which was to help me with my media work and editing and such.
If i can i will report back as to what the Apple store have said and what they can do!

  • After reinstall of OS and new HDD, can't import JPGs into iphoto from my SD card

    My HDD failed - so I installed new HDD, reinstalled Snow Leopard and had Time Machine copy all my backed up content to my White Macbook (2007).
    All my content is back - events etc in iphoto. But I just tried to import 200+ pictures from my camera's SD card, a process that has always worked flawlessly .... The thumbnails appeared blank on the Import screen. After clicking Import, and seemibgly going throufgh every picture, the error message was thatfiles could not be imported - The files are in an unrecognizable file format.
    Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.

    As a Test:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
    Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Leopard is "discontinued" (wait for 2 weeks for it to come through snail mail) and Lion does not exist on DVD for sale... only on new machines or as a download, which means you have to have OS software in the first place.     Depends what OS you want and it depend upon the machine you have what you can or cannot run on it.
    If you have a Intel processor machine, the best and most stable is Snow Leopard 10.6.
    Leopard 10.5 if you have a PowerPC Mac, G4 or G5
    Lion 10.7 the latest OS, was just released and has quite a few issues and lots of new strangness, it can be downloaded and installed for $29 online if you have Snow Leopard installed first and updated to 10.6.8. Then Rosetta programs won't work and you need a 64bit Intel processor, not 32 bit.
    To find out, download the free MacTracker and see what machine you have and what OS it can handle.

    Ask AT&T. We are users like you. We don't know anything about your current plan, whether or not it supports iPads, whether or not it is transferable, if it will work with an iPad, etc.
    iPad plans are different than iPhone plans.

        dianneb, great question and thanks for the help Weth. The good news is if you're on More Everything the mobile hotspot would be apart of your plan just as Weth mentioned. What you just want to keep in mind is that the usage from the tablet while connected to the hotspot would take from your current plan allowance. Hope this helps!

    Connect and disconnect the headphones a few times.
    Clean the headphone port. Something as simple as a hair or cloth thread can cause problems.

    I have searched high and low and there does not seem to be a way to authorize the iPod Classic.  What can I do to sync my purchases to my iPod?  I have tried reformatting/restoring it as suggested.  It continues to only allow me to sync non-icloud/itunes content.

    What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
    Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
    If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
    Do the songs play in iTunes?          
    Does any media now sync to the iPod?
    Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

    Do you get an error message when you try to export your file? Or, are you continually asked to subscribe when you try to convert a link? If it's the latter, it could be that you just haven't signed in to the app yet. Try this:
    From the ExportPDF website, click Sign in at the upper-right corner, and log in to the service with your Adobe ID credentials. Now, when you click ExportPDF, you'll be prompted to select PDF files to export, instead of being asked to subscribe.
    If you're receiving an error message when you try to log in, let us know what it is, and we can go from there.

    That depends on how you bought the phone.  A carrier linked phone will come with a sim card.    An unlocked phone usually does not have a sim card.
    Sim cards can be bought from your Cell carrier's stores. Apple does not sell sim cards.

    If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
    If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
    The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.
